At least your animal was able to display their affliction because they were conscious of it. Our old dog Phantom had some neurological dysfunctions....namely, she barely, barely felt pain. At some point, we noticed that she had to go outside every half hour or so, just ridiculously frequent. So we took her to the vet: She had a bladder infection so bad, her urine had crystallized inside her bladder, requiring surgery to help remove them.
One of the vets tried to call us on negligence, but we explained: There was just no sign of discomfort, no sign of issues, until it go to the point that she needed to pee that frequently. We literally had no idea that anything was wrong, because I don't think Phantom knew anything was wrong.
