It was like any other day.
Just a bunch of school kids on a school trip to some research labs. The weary teachers had booked it because of the small price tag, as part of the obligatory ‘enrichment’ programme and for the opportunity for a break from marking the reams of half-hearted homework papers. The students, most of whom couldn’t care less about science, saw it as a day off from lessons.
What the party of students and tutors didn’t realise, however, were the illegal science experiments taking place in that very facility, locked behind backdoors and hidden from public eye. The scientists there weren’t exactly rolling in money and were having to turn to less…legal means. A company – one they know only as ‘Nemor’ – is funding these experiments and no one knows why. But of course, with a weekly pay check bigger than they used to receive in a year, no one asks any questions. It seems silence has its price. And they need something to stop the official government lab rats sniffing around and discovering their dirty, little secret; marching a few, bored teenagers around the first floor of the labs seemed like the perfect cover. They never do the proper health and safety checks, them teachers. It seemed like an easy solution.
Until you found out their secret.
You are part of that group of school kids touring the labs. Allocated into a group by the teachers – desperate to separate the worst kids so the day can run as smoothly as possible – you are stuck with a group of different kids who you hadn’t ever previously interacted with normally in the classroom. The jock, the brainiac, the daydreamer, the joker (please try to vary your characters so we have a range of personalities and stereotypes!) – all in one group; it’s your worst nightmare! Your dysfunctional group splits off from the main herd of bored students and you find yourself wandering the off-limits section. But when you see the warning signs and the suspicious-sounding, cryptic names that aren't on the research lab's cheesy leaflets, you know you can’t turn back.
What you find shocks you. The scientists didn’t expect any of the school kids would care enough to go off on their own – let alone get through the locked doors (but you have a lock-picker amongst you). Your group finds yourself in a bizarre, white, empty room – inadequate for all the protection it was behind. You search it, but find there is nothing there.
Puzzled, you decide it’s finally time to rejoin the group.
A strange illness that follows – contracted by each of you, and only the group of fateful students. And then there are the unique abilities that come and go; moments when your senses – your hearing, your sight, your sense of smell – are heightened, and your eyes glow gold. These ‘moments’ occur randomly and for only minutes at a time; all you know, is you can’t control it. You develop a liking for raw meat…
What you don’t know is that you – unbeknownst to both yourselves, and the scientists behind it, panicking having now discovered the unlocked doors – is that you were the unwitting subjects in a dangerous science experiment.
Involving attempts to implant canine DNA…into humans.
But it was never meant to be tested this early, in the development process.
How will you cope with these changes? How long until you abandon the safety of your social group and work out that others in your class have developed similar symptons…the only linking factor being the one time you had to work together that fateful day…
Will you confront the scientists? Sell your secret to government? Use your new abilities to become jewel thieves?
[i[Loosely based upon one of my favourites book series ‘Virals’, but with my own twist - no knowledge of the books is needed; when I say loosely, I mean loosely![/i]
In this RP, you will basically play as one of the teenagers - around sixteen to eighteen years old - who were part of the group that wandered into the off limits lab. I'm looking for a maximum of ten people to take part - as, in my experience, any more seems to crowd the RP. So bear in mind that I am unlikely to accept you if there are over ten sign ups before you.
We will probably start the IC from entering the labs and being allocated into the group together.
And now for the fun stuff!
The Rules are as follows...
1. The usual. C'mon guys - this is casual. If you don't know the basics (e.g. no godmoding), should you really be in this section?
2. HAVE FUN!
3. Please have decent grammar and spelling! I don't want to have to struggle through paragraphs of text speak or misspelt words, and I suspect neither do my fellow RPers. Naturally, everyone spells the odd word wrong but pleese dont speek lik dis all th tyme.
4. Minimum of a good-sized paragraph per post. And please wait for at least two or three other posts before you post again.
5. If you've read this, include somewhere in your character sign up sheet that elephants rule.
6. My word goes, along with my co-GM's. My co-GM is ShadowedRaven, for the record.
7. Be respectful towards your fellow RPers. I expect there will be some arguments in the IC as a result of the friction produced between the different stereotypes - keeps it interesting, 'eh, guys?! - but if anyone is going overboard, or carrying it on in the OOC...well, just don't. Please.
8. Have some more fun. AGAIN.

Name:
Penelope 'Pen' Galloway
Age:
17
Appearance:
Her hair is blonde, by the way and typically tied up in a ponytail
Stereotype:
The Tomboy
Personality:
As her stereotype suggests, Pen is a tomboy who finds anything remotely girly irritating and pointless. After all, what pupose exactly do high heels serve? She has a couple of friends who are similar to her, but she mostly likes to stick by herself. She is curious - some would call her nosey, but hey, why is that a bad thing? - and once something piques her interest, she cannot stop herself from pursuing it until she has untangled every shred of mystery surrounding it. She is happiest when she is solving a puzzle, working out how to make something work or building things.
She is very active and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including running, climbing, swimming and fencing (and not just putting up the wooden kind), meaning she is very atheletic. She is talented at maths and physics, but when it comes to English and art...it all goes downhill.
She isn't a very emotional person. Rather than break down in tears, Pen would probably punch a wall or shout something. She isn't typically very expressive as a result of being brought up by her dad and older brothers - lacking the 'feminine' touch, most would say. But her dad has tried to rectify this, by entering her into ballet lessons. She absolutely hates it - despite actually being quite good at it - but continues to go, as her father pays her to. But she would rather kill someone than let them know this little secret.
Biography:
Her mother died when she was very small and so she was effectively brought up by her dad, and later on, by her older brother by six years. Their little family isn't exactly rich but her father is an architect, so they have a decent income, and live in an average terrace on the average end of town. And average is certainly the word.
She found early on that she didn't gel with the girls; she had no idea what a doll was when she first joined school and was more used to playing with her elder brother's old car sets, than with plastic prams. She preferred climbing trees and cannonballing into lakes - that was one memorable school trip, to that nature reserve - and that rift that had formed between her and most girls never seemed to close as the years raced by. She found a couple of likeminded friends, but she wasn't exactly the centre of the school's social life.
But then again, she didn't really care.
Other:
Though she likes to make out that she's really tough, she is petrified of wasps. But not elephants.
