Ok. I promise a character sheet tomorrow. I have to sew four claptraps tonight for my bfs birthday... It's totally not last minute at all *ahem*

But I am keen. Leaning toward wisp or maybe a dryad who's forest used to be in part of NY but is now part of some kind of botanical garden type thing (I assume NY has one. I've never been to America). Maybe a brownie.

Dryads will be concentrated in central park which is a neutral zone with respect to the courts. There are probably other possible locations, you'd need to do a little research.

I am still generating my character and I am still on board. Spent all day changing the emergency brake shoes in my car, springs galore, and now I have to finish a paper for a class but before I drive from PA to VA tomorrow I will post a CS.

A WIP of some of the concepts I've been throwing around. I don't know how many or which of them I will play, but they are here regardless.

@Quarthax Everything looks good except the pictures which are not humanoid. If you want that anthro look then you need to go for a puca and if the pictures don't fit the character then just don't use them. Pic is optional for this reason.

Name: Addar ibn Nahbeeh

Species: Djinn

Court: Primarily Seelie with various ties to the Unseelie.

Title: Sultan Addar ibn Nahbeeh, Emir of Astoria, and Malik of Antiquities

Appearance:

Addar ibn Nahbeeh is a fey of refined taste and charming eccentricity. The skin on his face though seeming to be pleasantly worn with the lines of wisdom and laughter does little to reflect his true age or breadth of knowledge and the dusky desert colored flesh speaks to a heritage far from New York. He is of a normal build for his kind and while he has avoided the hefty weight that his sometimes large indulgence could possibly bring, he is also no prize athlete. He keeps himself well groomed and dressed in the finest clothing he can procure, all fashioned after the tastes of the Victorian gentleman he loves to read about, except for the traditional Bedouin robes, brocaded sashes, and elaborate weaves he often wears to Seelie Court functions. Addar tends to prefer gray, silver, and black silks and suits, cut in the most Victorian fashion. He often styles his full, silver colored beard in a wild and daily changing manner and will typically wear some manner of head covering be it an elegant bowler or a traditional keffiyeh. Like many of his other tastes he tends towards finely crafted clockwork jewelry, exquisitely ornate walking sticks, and pleasant smelling oils.

Background: Born in Istanbul in the early 1900's Addar traveled the Near, Middle, and Far East as he grew up under the tutelage of his parents and a troupe of Seelie Court Nobles. Much of this time, when not physically traveling, was spent in Court Enclaves where time was slowed granting him a knowledge base beyond his physical years. As he matured Addar was faced with a choice, he was the youngest of three brother Djinn and even if he were to inherit in the Court of the Crescent Moon in Istanbul it would be an inheritance of a minor Prince behind his brothers. His other option would be to leave the Court of the Crescent Moon and travel to another Court and attempt to rise within it to a position of power. As his elder siblings would take his father's seat in the Court of the Crescent Moon the later option seemed the most opportunistic to Addar and opportunity is what Addar is all about. He traveled the world as a treasure hunter briefly and often perilously before coming to rest in Astoria in the Queens Borough of New York City and this put him at the heart of the Red Oak Dutchy and the Summer Court. He quickly began to apply his Machiavelli like skills and by 2018 his prowess in statecraft saw him titled as the Emir of Astoria, a part of the Queens Borough roughly closed in by the East River, Queens Boulevard, and highway 278 and conveniently right across the East River from the seat of Seelie power. During the past three years Addar's role in Court has become more and more noticeable for a minor fey noble and Astoria is becoming unofficially known as a place where Fey of all ilk are welcomed as long as they take the time and enjoy the pleasure of meeting with the Emir. In reality Addar is beginning to cultivate allies on all levels among all Courts and in all factions with the hope of uniting New York City into its own new and modern Dutchy where all fey are welcome, a new unity separate from the stuffy and antiquated Red Oak Dutchy. Of course Addar leading this new Dutchy, in his mind, is just a fringe benefit. Addar has also occupied another unique niche in the New York Court, openly... but not politely talked about, in the Seelie Court and covertly for Unseelie clients. Addar is a fence of some repute when it comes to the fey communities. It is known that, for the right price, he can move just about anything from information to smuggling actual fey and their beloved artifacts. To the Seelie Court his abilities are sought out in the side rooms and alcoves of the Court and never, as of yet, discussed openly no matter how often his skills are called upon. A few somewhat trusted Unseelie know him for who he is and have sought his services and he provides them more and more as the year pass.

Personality: The Malik of Antiquities is above all, a charmer, he enjoys the spotlight and wears it well at Court or in a small group. Addar typically knows what to say and when exactly to say it, he has a snake charmers confidence without the sly stickiness of a snake oil salesman. He loves to show other fey his hospitality and asks so very little in return, which is the way he endeavors for others to perceive their relationships with him. Behind this genuine concern and kindness is a fey of a supremely manipulative nature that will permit most anything and plan even the most devious acts as long as it advances his cause and he remains in favor.

Talent: Machiavellian. Addar is extremely cunning often hatching schemes within schemes that interact with overarching webs of duplicity, statecraft, politics, and court maneuverings. He has a platinum tongue, honeyed words, and an incredibly sharp mind.

Knack: Networking and favor calling. The Emir of Astoria never forgets a face or debt and has more than a handful of well-placed favors ready to be called upon if the need arises.

Flaw: Besides the difficulty in maintaining his ever widening web of plots the Sultan Addar has a fondness, bordering on the clinically obsessive, for fine hashish. He is also a strict adherent to the rules of hospitality, no matter what.

Major Skills: Speech Craft, Polyglot, Appraisal: specialization in Near, Middle, and Far East charms, Fence

Glamers: Naaru-s-samuum II Eros II and Twyling I

Charms: Addar makes his regular home in the antique shop of a semi-wealthy Egyptian immigrant. His main source of charm comes from humans viewing and trading in these artifacts. This home is a comfortably appointed enclave in a antique ivory sculpture of a hunting falcon from Istanbul's distant past. The enclave is a comfortable place, no Seelie noble palace but the Seelie noble that used his art to bring it into being did so very skillfully. Its primary feature besides the beautiful melding of traditional and contemporary style is that time is slowed dramatically while inside the enclave. A common room that would be the "darkened" part of a the disk if viewing a crescent moon is a common area, piled with low seating, tables, and airy wall hangings. The actual smaller "crescent moon" of the disk is a series of four private rooms, two bedrooms, a study, and a gallery.

He also keeps two small physical (non-extra dimensional) getaways stashed with sequestered crystals and capacitors. Both locations are in Astoria, one in an Arabic poetry lounge on the north side, and another more secure location in an East River market.

Artifacts: Most of his sword canes while beautifully crafted are also the product of enchantment. Over time he has gathered many favors from both apt and novice enchanters and each cane has a varying degree of either natural or magical poison. While some are indeed deadly, one or two quickly so, most are just painful and all have antidotes that the skilled alchemist or enchanter can conjure.

The "key" to his enclave in the Astoria Egyptian Antique Shop is a resplendent silver arm cuff with a brilliant ruby fragment. Only the wearer of this cuff can enter the enclave or permit people to enter. It would take a powerful fey skilled in Twyling to enter without permission.

Mount/Conveyance: A tamed Belted Kingfisher named Fahalad and sometimes in antiquities when it serves his purpose.

Allies: Quite a few prominent Seelie Court members are indebted to him in some manner or another and he to them in other manners. Calling on these type of people at unplanned times tends to stretch or even break his well woven web so it is something Addar is loath to do unless it fits his scheme. There are a few Unseelie members, mostly Goblins and Alfar that are also lines in his web though they often are unaware of his actual nature.

Equipment: Addar carries little in the way of "gear". The primary things besides his everyday accouterments would be his hand crafted hashish cigarillos and his various ornately crafted sword canes, the later of which he can use passably well to defend himself with but he will not be leading any attacks.

@Avery That looks good. Remember, though, just because the Djinn are inspired by and have inspired Middle Eastern culture does not mean they need to be an exact copy. Some aspects of their own lifestyle can and should be quite alien. Looking at the character, I've decided to change the rules so each character start's off with an automatic rank in their specie's unique glamer. I also added the name of the djinn glamer, smokeless flame. Naaru-s-samuum is the best translation to Arabic that I could find online. Not 100% sure of it.

@All Couple edits to the mainpage

1) PCs will automatically get one rank in their specie's unique glamer.

2) I made 'enclave' the standard term for extradimensional fairy lands, though, the terms 'pocket', 'fold', and 'brane' will still be used by many more informal speakers.

I also made an interest thread on general to see if we could not get some more players. I feel like I did not convey the epic awesomeness of this world in my original thread, so hopefully I did a better job this time around. Or maybe I'm the only one who thinks a mortal duel between two fairy knights with swords fashioned from letter openers is epic. This is possible.

Name: Laoch Chosaintóir

Species: Sidhe

Court: Mostly neutral but leans more towards the Unseelie

Title: The Wandering Knight

Appearance: Fairly mundane for a Sidhe. His most defining feature is his height, reaching a little over 4 and a quarter inches. His muscles are corded and wiry, giving him a slim but toned look. The only other notable thing is that most of his left ear has been torn off and a large claw scar covers his chest. His wings are pretty normal, big enough to give him flight and durable enough to take some damage. The only thing abnormal about them is that they are fairly dull, not giving the glossy appearance most of his race has.

Background: Laoch never really liked the monarchy, he felt it too strict and inflexible. However he kept this sentiment to himself for he felt his duty to his family, who were strictly Seelie, was more important than his ideological differences. As he grew older his family noticed that he wasn't really all that great at architecture and no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't improve, so instead of moping about it and becoming the family fool he decided to focus his energy in the arts of warfare. In this branch of art Laoch found his purpose, hours after hours he would spend training his body until eventually it was a weapon all its own and afterwards trained in the use of blades. Simple things made of steel and found within the homes of the Bigguns, he didn't know where they came from only that they had the words "X-ACTO" etched into them. Using these tools he became the best warrior in the family, easily being able to take on any of the others in single combat. Yet as the Biggun saying goes, all good things must come to an end. A troll had appeared around the families territory and was causing trouble, in retaliation the patriarch of the family sent Laoch and a large detachment of warriors to deal with it. After hours of battle and many casualties the day was won, taking the head of the troll as a trophy Laoch went home only to find ash. Since most the warriors had gone to kill the troll, a rival family sent there warriors and razed his home to the ground and took most of their artifacts. The only thing left of worth was a set of armor, locked in a vault they rivals couldn't open. Seizing the armor for himself he and the remaining warriors went their separate ways. With a heavy heart but unburdened shoulders, Laoch decided to make a name for himself as a sell sword and a wanderer. Traveling the world under the employ of Unseelie explorers.

Personality: Gruff, level headed, and prideful. Whenever Laoch talks its always to the point, seeing as spinning long winded lectures as a waste of time. Nonetheless he has a mighty patience and can endure rants, speeches, and overly long apologies for quite awhile before he grows tired of listening to you ramble. Laoch also has a good head on his shoulders and is in control of his emotions almost all of the time, giving him almost a lifeless, mechanical feel from most people. However with those he is more familiar with he is much more warm and lively. Due to his pride as a warrior Laoch cannot fight someone without a weapon or some way of defending themselves either with glamers or summoned beasts. Adversely his pride also makes it impossible for him to not give it his all in a fight no matter the opponent, from the strongest troll to the weakest fairy he will fight with equal determination and effort.

Talent: Martial Prowess- Laoch has spent almost his entire childhood training to become a warrior, as such he knows how to use most weapons efficiently with the most amount of skill placed in the use of blades. However his knowledge stops at the more technological weapons like explosives and things of the sort. Growing up in a Seelie oriented family restricted him from many of the technological advances that others are used to.

Knack: As stated above swordsmanship is Laoch's greatest skill. He specialized in wielding two smaller but equally deadly blades at once, giving him a major edge in single combat but a minor disadvantage in fighting many enemies at once.

Flaw: His fear of failure stems from his inability to save his family and house from utter destruction. Whenever the possibility of failure becomes likely he will become less reliable and more reckless as he scrambles to ensure victory which could lead to serious exploitation from a more level headed strategist.

Major Skills: Swordsmanship, hand to hand combat, intimidation, scavenging

Glamers: Resplendence 3, Enchantment 1

Charms: Has a dreamstone located inside the family heirloom he wears around his neck and a flux capacitor worn as an accessory on his belt. He knows of one location of which his family used to gain charm and it is located within a newspaper cartoonists studio.

Artifacts: Laoch's armor is comprised of mostly real world metals but the inscriptions located in the chest plate, boots, and gauntlets give them more durability and protection from enchanted weapons at the cost of complete destruction should he gain a Bigguns gaze leaving him defenseless if he survives the encounter.

Mount/Conveyance: No permanent one but he can use resplendence to gain a temporary mount.

Allies:

Equipment: The blades Laoch wields are just steel, no magic involved.

@neko Good to have you.

@Pathfinder Well you knocked that out of the park. I love how you build on the world and make a unique character who does not necessarily fit stereotype while simultaneously remaining true to the world. The only thing I'm a bit fuzzy on are these 'Unseelie explorers.' Also love the incorporation of x-acto knives as an improvised sword. Totally would not have thought of that. As an interesting side note they are produced using steel folding techniques similar to those used to make traditional samuri swords so this works on multiple levels.

@All At this point I think we'll go the faction road and I'll find a way to make it work irregardless of how many players we get because I don't want to force everyone to choose one faction.

Yeah, I guess the "Unseelie explorers" don't make much sense. Maybe just a bodyguard or some such when getting tech stuff in dangerous areas?

Ill make Addar a little more unique within the personality and history portions. What have now is his foundation, I was leaning toward the trope of a sort of fey immigrant that has strong roots in his ethnic culture but has embraced New York wholeheartedly. I should finish him up tonight and if I still need to soften him up a bit we should talk about that. Don't worry though, I promise I will not be going the Alibaba genie route.

One thing that might help is considering where the points of cultural contact are between fey and bigguns. Remember that they can't directly talk to them. Traditionally fey have understood bigguns through books and been influenced through literature. For traditional fey such as Seelie this is mostly still the case. On the other hand, the Unseelie, who are more wired, have a totally different cultural input through the net. Also unlike the Seelie they can actually view human movies and television as the bigguns do because they can increase the framerates to match their heightened perspectives (unmodified a movie, to a fey, would just be a series of stills). This is the main reason why the Seelie and Unseelie are so radically different in their worldviews.

The bar for acceptance for really off-kilter character concepts is proportionately high. Wow me and I might accept it. Toss something up that's lame or even mediocre and it will be a no go. Characters like this are challenging to pull off, so you essentially have to prove to me you can do so.

Crossbreeds would be almost nonexistant for the following reasons. Sex between species is taboo among the fey of both courts (and punishable by banishment within the Seelie realm). The species are highly diverged genetically, far more so than any human race or ethnic group, more than even humans and neanderthals. For this reason offspring are generally impossible or stillborn. Those who are conceived would all be sterile to a one and many would be born with some kind of physical or mental abnormality.

As far as glamer, a crossbreed might have no natural glamer as the unnatural melding disrupts its inheritance from either parent. More rarely a crossbreed might inherit one or both of his parent's hereditary glamers or they might merge together into a completely unique kind of magic.
