Name: Shen (last name unknown)
Race: Demonkin (formerly human)
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Height: 6’6
Weight: 350 lbs

Appearance: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/354/8/c/orc_blade_master_by_heewonlee-d35b1xt.jpg
(minus the huge beads)

Personality: Shen is a man with a torn personality. While he’s originally a well-intentioned person with a strong sense of honor and justice, the Usurper has corrupted his mind with violent tendencies and a thirst for power and blood. For now, he’s managed to convince himself that he does what he does for the good of mankind, but deep down even he must wonder how long this will last before it all goes amiss…

Abilities and powers

Physical enhancements – Shen’s mutated body brings with it a variety of advantages. He can deadlift 2200 lbs and sprint at 60 mph. Despite his size and weight, he can jump superhumanly long distances, do a wide variety of acrobatics and is overall extremely agile. His bones are reinforced, requiring twice as much force to break as before, and his wounds heal at 5 times human rate. His sight and hearing are both roughly twice as powerful as a normal human’s. He also has advanced low-light vision, allowing him to see in near-full darkness. As a downside, very bright lights or sudden flashes can blind him more easily.

Demonic blood – Shen’s corrupted body grants him a passive resistance to fire. Flames and other heat-based attacks are generally shrugged off, but due to his human side, the resistance is not perfect. He can still suffer scorching wounds and internal damage if exposed to common fire for longer than a few minutes or when hit by exceptionally powerful flames. On the flip side, divine magic deals increased damage to him and healing spells that draw from a divine source are ineffective. Holy water and certain other divine items will hurt him on touch, as if he was an actual demon.

Iron will – Shen was born with an exceptional mental fortitude, which was further enhanced by his mental training as a monk. All but the most powerful of mind-altering effects will be shrugged off or at least partially resisted, such as the mind-controlling effect of the Usurper.

Martial arts – Shen is trained extensively in a mixture of elite fighting techniques, focusing on unarmed combat. These techniques focus on dealing fast and precise strikes with hands and feet, as well as preventing damage to oneself by dodging or countering.

Swordsmanship – While sword fighting wasn’t part of his training as a monk, his skills with a sword developed at a supernaturally fast pace from the moment he began using the Usurper, as if he absorbed the knowledge and muscle-memory of the sword’s previous owners through use. He’s not the greatest swordsman in the world, but he’s close, capable of slashing and parrying at near-superhuman speed.

Pyromancy – Shen can generate and control fire to a certain extent. It can only be generated in direct contact with his skin before being able to control it further away from him. Any part of his skin will do, but the hands are easiest. Fire that stays within three feet of him remains under his control and doesn’t go out by itself as long as he’s actively maintaining it. Once the fire leaves that radius, it will continue moving in the direction it was already going and will naturally snuff out after a few seconds unless it hits something flammable. For the purpose of pyromancy, Usurper is considered a part of Shen’s body as long as he’s holding it. Pyromancy is energy draining, so Shen doesn’t use it wantonly. His pyromancy based attacks include, but are not limited to:
- Firing a cone of flame from his hand, similar to a flamethrower, about 40’ long and 20’ wide at the end. This requires no charge but is intensely energy draining.
- Creating a fireball in his hand and throwing it. When done without charge, it’s simply a basketball-sized sphere of flame that scorches things on contact. When charged, the fire becomes compressed and will explode on impact. With a 5 second charge, it has an explosion radius of 20’ and enough power to fling people off their feet (breaking some bones in the process), as well as of course set everything within the radius on fire. On max charge, 10 seconds, both the radius and power have tripled, making it powerful enough to blow up a sizable brick house. Energy requirement increases exponentially on longer charges, making the max charge incredibly taxing. Note that while Shen is resistant to his own fire, the same doesn’t go for the explosive force.
- Coating his sword in a layer of flames. This essentially creates a second sword of fire around the metal sword, about 1x1x6 feet in size, which might hit enemies even if the metal sword misses. It also has the effect of heating the blade over time. When the coating is first applied, the metal is still cold and will gradually heat up, until after 2 minutes it glows bright orange as it’s reached its maximum temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius. Without outside interference cooling down takes as long as heating up. This ability is relatively cheap to sustain.

Equipment

Usurper – The source of most of Shen’s powers. A large 5’ long katana of unknown origin, made of a non-reflective dark grey metal that is indestructible by conventional means. It’s surprisingly heavy for such a slender weapon, only able to be wielded efficiently by someone with superhuman strength, and has a razor-sharp edge that never dulls.

Usurper (and in extension Shen) draws power from the departing souls of its victims, slowly growing a little bit more powerful with each kill. The legends say that Usurper’s wielder once defeated entire armies of the greatest warriors, but the sword has lost the majority of its power due to centuries of disuse.

As long as its current owner is alive, his and Usurper’s souls are inseparably entwined and Usurper will not grant its power to anyone else. The sword has shown to have a mysterious way of returning to its owner when separated for too long. When the current owner is killed, Usurper will once again attempt to bind itself to the next suitable creature that touches it.

History

Shen was orphaned shortly after his birth due to an unknown cause. With no one left to take care of the young child, he was taken in by the monks of an isolated monastery to be raised as one of them. There he was trained from a very young age in the ways of the warrior monks, which includes extensive physical and spiritual training in order to achieve enlightenment. Shen showed great affinity for these teachings and over the course of many years he developed into a full-fledged monk. While his ability to follow orders was imperfect, he more than made up for it with his willingness to learn and his great mental fortitude.

It was only when he completed his training at the age of 24 that he found out about the monastery’s real purpose. Stored in a vault deep below the monastery was an ancient weapon, a demonic sword that the sensei called Usurper, after the way it used to hijack the souls of men to pursue its own dark purpose. When any attempt to destroy the weapon resulted in failure, it was stored far away from the prying eyes of the civilized world, to be guarded by the warrior monks until the end of days.

Yet despite all his training, Shen was an ambitious man. He claimed that the monks couldn’t remain idle while the outside world was being torn apart by wars, demons and more. He insisted that they held a power too great to ignore and urged his masters to tame this weapon and utilize it for the greater good, but the sensei were adamant in their denial. Shen had little choice but to accept this, yet over the following weeks he found himself plagued by nightmares of standing powerless as an evil being slaughtered his fellow monks. It was always the same dream and the same creature, and the sight wouldn’t leave his mind even during the day.

One night, he couldn’t handle it anymore. He had to acquire the one thing that could keep his brothers safe, even if he was told not to. Shen snuck down into the vault to inspect the Usurper, only to be stopped by a senior monk. On an unfamiliar violent impulse, he charged the older man and managed to overpower him just long enough to make a run for the sword. The moment his fingers touched the hilt, the weapon was reawakened and its soul reached out and forcibly fused with his. The massive injection of power took its toll on Shen’s body and rapidly transformed him into a demonic being, hulking and green-skinned. Although the sword never spoke, its intentions were clear as day. Usurper urged him to give in to its bloodlust and raze the monastery with everyone inside. It was only through Shen’s miraculous strength of will that he could resist slaughtering his former brothers and flee into the mountains instead.

From there on, it didn’t take long for Shen to realize he’d made a huge mistake. While he retained his own will over that of the sword, the bloodlust that came with its possession was almost uncontrollable. For several days, he evaded capture while attempting to tame Usurper’s soul, but he could gain no further control over the weapon and with every passing day, the urge to kill became stronger. Eventually, admitting defeat, he returned to the monastery and surrendered himself to be punished for his crimes. As there was no known way to separate Usurper’s soul from its wielder’s, Shen was sentenced to death so that the sword can once again be imprisoned.

Shen had every intention to pay for his sin and didn’t resist as his former brothers chained him and placed his head upon the chopping block. As the executioner’s sword came down to behead him, Usurper’s ethereal voice screamed inside his head, louder than ever, dazing him. When the daze faded, blood was streaming down his arm, as his hand had moved up, tearing free of the iron chains, to stop the blade. With no control over his own body, Shen watched himself rise to his feet and tear the executioner’s throat out with his claws. And it didn’t stop there. He gave in to his bloodlust as he reached for the Usurper and began cutting down everyone within his reach. Each and every monk was a powerful warrior, but the Usurper had turned Shen more powerful than all of them combined.

Shen didn’t regain control over himself until it was too late and he found himself covered in blood and ash. Upon the taste of blood, Usurper’s power over him had receded, but there was no doubt it would return. He knew there was no way back now. He had tasted the power and satisfaction of killing, even if the ones he killed were his former allies. There was no going back to his peaceful life as a monk, but he could still repent by using his power for the greater good, if only he could strengthen his grasp. If the Usurper wants blood, that’s exactly what it’s going to get…

Name: Finrohir
Race: Unique
Gender: None, referred to as male
Age: Ageless
Height: 12’
Weight: 4400 lbs

Appearance: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/252/5/6/guardian_by_yinyuming-d6lqirb.jpg (Minus the armor)

Personality: Finrohir is defined most of all by his love for the wild and his duty to protect it. He will oppose anyone who threatens the balance of nature, but won’t kill them unless left no other choice, as he believes that even their life is valuable. That pacifism doesn’t apply to undead and other unnatural life forms, however. Occasionally, a different part of him shines through, the part that is like a curious child. Although he was born with a fully developed brain, his lack of life experience makes him more naive than most.

Abilities and powers

Physical abilities – Finrohir can deadlift his own body weight and sprint at 50 mph for a long time before tiring. Due to the large claws on his feet, he has great maneuverability even when running at high speeds. The claws can also dig into vertical surfaces to effectively climb, provided the surface is strong enough to hold his weight. His skin has the consistency of tough leather and his bones are exceptionally sturdy, requiring three times as much force to break as a human’s bones, if a human's bones were as thick as his. His tail is 1.5 times as powerful as one of his arms and the spiked knob at the end is made of bone. His sense of smell is many times stronger than that of a human, closer to that of a dog. When wounded, he will heal at about 10 times the rate of a human. He is immune to most natural poisons, but not to artificial or magical ones.

Animal affinity – Due to his origin, Finrohir has an innate affinity with most natural fauna. Even the most aggressive or territorial of animals tend to recognize him as an ally at first sight. He can mimic the sound of any animal and produce a wide variety of pheromones, allowing him to communicate with any natural animal from his world.

Force of Nature – Through a vocal command, Finrohir can awaken the dormant powers of nature and turn the surrounding flora against his enemies. Roots will come up to snare their feet, small branches and vines will attempt to entangle them and large branches will strike out at them like a flailing beast.
Through touch, he can channel energy into a tree, a process that takes several seconds, to turn it into a treant that will uproot and fight alongside him. Doing this is a large energy drain. The largest tree he can currently animate is about 50 feet tall (depending on its width and shape), the doing of which will drain him to the point of nearly losing consciousness. Treants have great strength and are hard to kill, but are extremely slow. Exact stats depend on size, shape and species of the tree.

Equipment

Organic axe – Finrohir’s axe, which was created from the Heart Tree together with him, is entirely made of a bone-like substance. Due to its size and weight, it’s practically unusable for a human. The bone is as strong as steel and seems to be alive, as it very slowly repairs itself when damaged. By default, the weapon’s edge is blunt, but it can transform into a sharp edge or back within a few seconds at Finrohir’s command.

History

There once was a race known as the Dankael, who lived in hidden societies in forests far away from the civilized world. They were only half the size of a human, and shared the characteristics of several animals as well as humanoids. For many centuries, they lived in harmony with nature, separated from the outside world. That all changed when the outside world found out about them. The discovery of a new race drew the interest of a lot of adventurers and scientists, but also of the more unsavory folk. It was soon discovered that the ancient trees the Dankael worshipped were hotspots for mystical energy and that the wood of such trees would be priceless in the right hands.

When the Dankael refused the outsiders permission to harvest the trees, many of the outsides retorted with force. Over a short period of time, several of the great trees were cut down as the Dankael were forced to retreat further inwards, towards the center of the forest. The humans were twice their size and armed with bronze and steel, so the Dankael stood no chance of defeating them in combat. Every day since the onslaught began, they prayed to their sacred trees for help, until eventually something happened. The Heart Tree, the largest tree in the very center of the forest, began morphing and deforming, until a creature unlike any other emerged from inside. Without hesitation, the creature set out to defend the forest against the oncoming invaders. The beast fought tirelessly for several days, but only killed its opponents when absolutely necessary, until each and every human that would do the Dankael harm had fled.

In the days afterwards, the Dankael discovered that the creature knew nothing of himself or the world around him, only that it was his duty to protect the place he was created. He had no name and no memories from prior to his emergence from the Heart Tree, yet he knew how to fight and to speak the Dankael language. Due to his lack of a name, they began calling him Finrohir, the Dankael word for Protector. Ever since that day, Finrohir has been the stalwart protector of the forest and its inhabitants, never doubting the purpose for which he was created.

Name: H’ngyalith
Race: Unique
Gender: None, referred to as male
Age: Ancient, possibly eternal
Height: Colossal
Weight: Unknown

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/EAATkqe.jpg

Personality: H’ngyalith’s reasoning is nearly impossible to truly understand for a mortal. While he’s generally considered to be an evil deity, his own view of existence is one without good or evil. To him, there is only chaos and order, perfection and imperfection. As a creature of chaos, he holds an innate hate for all creatures that are born from order (which is most of them) and considers it his duty to cleanse the multiverse of their imperfection.

Abilities and powers

H’ngyalith’s physical body is currently chained and imprisoned at the core of an unknown planet, which suppresses the majority of his powers. The full extent of his powers and abilities is unknown to everyone but him, as his imprisonment predates both living memory and recorded history. There are however several abilities that he can still use from within his prison.

Dimensional travel – Even when imprisoned, H’ngyalith exists on a multidimensional level. Although he has no control over the spacial movement of his prison, he can force the entire planet, with him inside it, to fade between dimensions, allowing him to spread his influence through any of them. Even without transporting himself physically, his telepathic abilities can cross the dimensional barriers to communicate with entities outside of his current universe.

Aspect of chaos – H’ngyalith’s very existence is tied to the primordial element of chaos. Any of his actions that directly or indirectly cause chaos and destruction will strengthen him, thus his obsession with causing devastation. Because of this, some believe he is either the embodiment of chaos and/or exists to maintain the existence of chaos within the multiverse.

Star-spawn – From his own ever-regenerating flesh, H’ngyalith can craft creatures that will fight for him and do his every bidding. They can escape the planet through the crust and travel through space to wherever their master needs them to go. Alternatively, they can be teleported directly towards a certain location through a spacial rift. This second option requires a group of H’ngyalith’s mortal followers to execute an occult ritual at the intended area.

A wide variety of different Star-spawn types exist, differing in size, appearance and abilities. They are all disturbing-looking by human standards, with tentacles, claws, leathery wings, several eyes and multiple mouths being common traits among them. They can be as small as a cat or as large as a multi-story building. Common abilities among them include rapid regeneration, rapid mutation, fear or insanity inducement and telekinesis.

Telepathy – While his body may be trapped, H’ngyalith’s mind can travel across both space and dimensions, allowing him to communicate with entities almost anywhere. This ability is only usable when the target’s mind is vulnerable, which is primarily during sleep. He’s been known to inject (aspects of) himself into mortals’ dreams, in order to manipulate them to his will and/or slowly turn them insane. Mortals who are mentally unstable are also vulnerable to his telepathy, often letting him speak directly into their minds even when awake.

Mutation inducement – H’ngyalith is known for rewarding his mortal followers by transforming them physically into a superior form, granting them powers similar to those of the Star-spawn. This mutation can only be induced on a willing target and only those who have proven their loyalty to H’ngyalith will be freed from their humanity and blessed by this power.

History

The oldest traces of H’ngyalith’s existence date back to a conflict many millions of years ago, during which his attempt to eradicate all life as we know it was opposed by a wide variety of ancient gods whose names have since been long forgotten. After a war that lasted many centuries and cost countless mortals and deities their lives, H’ngyalith was temporarily defeated. Unable to permanently kill the abomination, the remaining deities imprisoned him inside the core of an uninhabited planet. To ensure the safety of the multiverse, those same deities sacrificed their lives to craft from their own souls the ethereal chains that prevent H’ngyalith from escaping his prison.

Their sacrifice was successful, for a while. For thousands, perhaps even millions of years, the multiverse was freed of the malevolent creature, until it eventually woke from its pseudo-death once more. Chained and weakened, H’ngyalith was incapable of escaping his prison and exacting his revenge on the world of the living, but even the ethereal chains that bound him couldn’t contain his power completely. At some point in the past 10 million years, the first of H’ngyalith’s Star-spawn, a group of terrible abominations crafted from his own flesh, erupted from the surface of the planet.

As if their minds were one with their creator’s, the Star-spawn travelled through the void of space towards the nearest inhabited planet. Though their combined might was less than a mere shade of their creator’s, the Star-spawn effectively decimated the planet’s population and left behind little more than a burning wasteland once they were finally brought to a stop. Although his servants had been destroyed, H’ngyalith reveled in the creation of such chaos and destruction and knew that the shift of fate he had created empowered him ever so slightly. His new path had become clear to him.

And so, H’ngyalith’s crusade of chaos was resumed. While he was unable to escape from his prison, his Star-spawn spread out far and wide, crossing both space and dimensional barriers to wreak havoc across the many worlds of the multiverse and to recruit other demented minds to their cause, knowing that one day their master would break free from his chains to drown the multiverse in chaos once and for all.
