Squirtle, Bulbasaur, or Charmander

Choose wisely...

Recently I was playing a nuzlocke of Leaf Green and it got me feeling nostalgic. So I want to do a roleplay set exclusively in the Kanto region and use nothing but the original 151 Pokemon as if none of the others existed. I’m looking for three people to play Pokémon trainers just starting out on their journey while I'll play as all of the side characters, wild Pokémon, Gym leaders, Team Rocket, and whatever else is necessary.

This roleplay is going to be more realistic as far as fighting and violence is concerned. It's not only possible for Pokémon to be seriously hurt, but trainers can be as well. There is real danger unlike in the Pokémon games/anime. Team Rocket is actually going to be threatening and dangerous and not just incompetent and weak. I haven't decided if it's going to be possible for Pokémon and trainers to be killed in this roleplay or not as I want the players' opinions on it first. Although I will say personally that I'm all for it, because I want it to feel like there's a real danger and risks.

Here are a few guidelines for this roleplay:
I’m only accepting three people and it’s first come first serve unless I don't feel you are willing to take this serious.
This is the original 151 only. I won’t be making any exceptions to this rule. That also includes 1st Gen Pokémon that evolve in later generations. So you can’t evolve your Tangela to a Tangrowth or your Slowpoke into a Slowking.
I don’t even want to hear about Mega Evolutions…
This is casual level roleplay so keep that in mind in regards to what will be required as far post length and grammar is concerned, although I am far from a grammar nazi.

For sure. Since you're first you can choose which of the starters your want.

Awesome. This may be super unoriginal, but I'll have to go with Charmander. I started with him on my own Pokémon Red nuzlocke.

@ Soul That's cool. I went with Bulbasaur in Leaf Green. I was never a huge fan of Charmander, even though most people seem to love it because Charizard is such a beast.

@ Frosty Okay, sounds good. You can pick between Bulbasaur and Squirtle for your starter.

Question, it says you're accepting three others or did you mean you and two others to make three... But if there is still room I'd like to throw my name out there.

No Eevee?! NO!!!!! Haha, I was planning on progressing into a Vaporeon anyways, so it seems like Squirtle is the obvious choice for my starter. Though I'm usually a grass fanatic. Like, 100%, but it doesn't really seem very fitting since Bulbasaur..Bulbasaur...I don't see Venosaur with a cannon.

@ Damon It means three other then me so you are welcome to join.

@ Frosty Haha, alright Squirtle it is then. And Eevee is definitely a possibility for later on in the roleplay. But it can only be evolved into Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon.

Oh, I understand that, Azog. Though how I would love the Leafeon. Oh, the leafiness of Leafeon. Though funnily enough, I've never had a Leafeon in my possession.

I'm sort of already going over my future team in my head. It's something I instinctively do before I even start the game.

So, since I'm bored and I'm currently babysitting, I'm going to make my character really quickly - will this be held in Pallet Town?

Neither have I. I didn't care for 4th Gen much, but that's one that I wouldn't mind trying. It looks a lot better than Glaceon imo.

@Soul Yes, it will be in Pallet town. And feel free to start on a character sheet. I'll put up the thread pretty soon so we can start. I just have to make an intro post.

@Damon, You can start your character sheet as well. Just so you know you will be starting with Bulbasaur as it's the only choice left.

Glaceon looks like an Eevee dyed blue, then decorated with a chandelier. Also terrible Special Defence, don't get me started. I absolutely hate the Frosty Eevee. And that's saying a lot if my name here is Frosty.

Name: Devon 'Ace' Hekorane

Age: Sixteen. (16)

Personality: Calm, casual, and intelligent are three words that best describes Devon. He is a very laidback guy that doesn't get angry easily, although he is quick to become annoyed, and will slice someone down in pure spat fire if bothered tremendously. He is a nice enough guy - maybe a bit too aloof and uncaring, but if you're not, in his eyes, frustrating, than he'll be kind to you as long as you return the favor. Under stressful situations, Devon is usually the guy who takes charge, unless someone else does, which, in that case, he sits back and observes the proceedings with an analytical air. He's not specifically quiet - he is, of course, emotionally withdrawn and comfortable with being alone, but Devon also enjoys cracking sarcastic jokes to release unwanted or unneeded tension. A cool teen that may seem a bit eccentric, but is just in control of his emotions, and a bit of a rebel. Often very vulgar, even when he's not annoyed or angry.

Appearance: Ace stands at the medium height of 6'1, with fair skin and a lean, slim, and muscular build from sports. His face is rather angular and chiseled - early adulthood, and his eyes are a deep, electric blue, but it seems to turn a deeper greenish color whenever it hits a certain ray of sunlight, although all of this is unnoticeable from under his glasses. Ace's hair is something that he doesn't even try to style, but seems to fall around his face perfectly. A light blonde, almost white, feathery soft mass of locks that straightens downwards. It lightly covers his forehead and eyes, as well. Ace has both of his ears pierced after failing against peer pressure, and he has a rather unnoticeable scar that trails along his left collarbone. Usually, Ace's 'style' consists of wearing a long-sleeve white and red t-shirt, slim, dark black jeans, and comfortable running shoes, along with black shades that he keeps on no matter the cost. His black and red backpack is usually slung lazily over his shoulder.

History: Ace was originally born in Kanto, though the town he was born in isn't very...well-known. At all. It was a self-reliant town focused on hard-work, training, and general use of teamwork and determination. His mother was a house mom; mostly staying at home, cooking, cleaning, and generally being the nice, doting mom while his father was a travelling adventurer, sending his son back souvenirs and photographs. At first Ace was angry at his father for his lax attitude and his ignorance when it came to matters at home, but eventually learned to just go with it. The town, which was eventually named Mahogany Town, was mostly filled with older men and women, and in turn Ace didn't have many friends. Due to this, he turned to working hard, rap making, and studying about Pokemon, seeing as Pokemon were the only things he could actually talk to and play with. Thankfully the town had many, many strong Pokémon walking around, helping with work and buildings. Eventually he was tired of just talking to them, and with them replying with passing comments of their names, and once again Ace turned to something else; battling.

The thought of travelling the regions, defeating gym leaders and becoming the Champion...it...it astounded him. At the tender age of 12, Ace started to practice with online simulators and games, getting the feel of Pokemon, their typing, and their moves. However, virtual things weren't the same as the real stuff, so he eventually got bored of it and turned back to helping out in the town. By then, most of the building work was done and much wasn't needed. Ace was originally saddened, and felt into a small depression, with nothing to do but mope around. His mother was worried, and called Ace's father, whom came back as soon as he heard that his son was depressed. A time out of the town would do him some good.

So, without any complaints, Father packed Ace's bags and the two ventured out into the world, traversing through the wilds in search of rare Pokemon and adventure. This was just what Ace needed, and he eventually transformed into his old Pokemon-loving, 'cool', beat-turnin' self. On the day of his fourteenth birthday, Ace went home to his mother, and had a small party with some of his friends and his father and mother. His last present was a letter written by his dad...telling him to capitalize on his dreams, along with a ticket to the S.S Anne. It was with a heavy heart that Ace boarded the train...and rode away from his little island, and towards the mainland of Kanto - and therefore, Pallet. His father allowed him to fly his Staraptor the rest of the way, and once Ace arrived in Pallet, and rented a room at an inn, his father's Staraptor quickly flying back to Mahogany Town.

It's seem your three spots were claimed so I'm probably a bit late here.

Though I'd like to warn against the 3 person limit, often what happens in RP's is players stop posting may it be they lost interest (right at the start often even) or other plans come up. So setting a limit of accepted players can put you in odd situations when players start leaving for certain reasons. This get's especially bad when the group is as small as four people.

Looks good, Soul. I can see you definitely put time in to make this detailed and well thought out. I do have one issue. You mention Pokemon and locations outside of Kanto. For the purposes of this roleplay nothing beyond the original 151 exists. But other than that, it looks great.

Sorry about that. Mahogany Town is basically a town I made up in my head, and it's still in Kanto - just not very connected, technology-wise, with the rest of the Kanto cities. Also, I took out the other gen Pokémon I mentioned.
Magic: True enough, although lower amounts of people make the whole 'losing interest' thing less likely to happen, considering it's a small group. Along with that, if someone has to leave, it won't stop dozens of people from RPing - only one or two, so less arguments, impatience, or annoyance. Not to mention smaller RP's are a lot easier to manage, and they are usually neat and organized.

I know what you mean. That can cause issues, but I have seen the opposite cause problems as well with too many players. That being said, if this garners enough interest then I would be willing to make exceptions. I don't want a bunch of people playing trainers starting out mostly because then it gets boring and repetitive with everyone do the same things like fighting the same gym and catching their first Pokemon. So that I will limit to three, but like I said maybe I can make exceptions.

Fair enough.
And if you guys are going for a more realistic pokemon feel I'd suggest watching this 3 minute vid just to get some ideas or inspiration.
