Been quite a while since I've GMed anything on this site (Last time was back when the old site was up), but I've been brainstorming an idea to get me back in the swing of things, and I just wanted to gauge general interest in the general idea.

So I love high-fantasy, and I also love post-apocalyptic, so I figured why not try and combine the two..

The RP would be set in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event that had been prophesied for a long time but the denizens were stubborn and were determined to stop it. What was not prophesied, however, was that there would be survivors. The "modern" time would be called the 'Weeping World', since many people now have a very grim outlook on life, and the world that was around before the cataclysmic event would simply be known as the 'World Before'. As with many high-fantasy RPs, there would be a magic system in place, and even some light technology to be found.

Player characters will be part of a growing league of people who wish to turn that grim outlook around and bring hope to an otherwise Weeping World. Simply gaining renown as a group and accomplishing tasks/quests for others can slowly start inspiring the denizens of this bleak and grey land.

However, exploration and discovery will have their place in this RP, as well, as the characters stay adamant in their search for something from the World Before that could offer any sort of guidance or protection to a quickly dying people. They can find bits of the World Before that could still prove to be useful in their journeys and quests, and could also offer insight into what the World Before was like.

So this isn't the best description I could give of what I have planned, since there are still parts that I am still building, but the concept is there. Would love to hear if anyone is interested in this and will gladly answer any questions posted here or PMed to me.

An interesting idea. Tentatively interested. I'd liked some more details first before deciding, though. Specifically, are we talking humans-only, or something more Tolkien-esque with dwarves, elves, etc?

Definitely was thinking more Tolkien-esque. The "traditional" races (Dwarves, Humans, High/Dark Elves, Halflings, etc.) would be present, with the addition of mer-folk. Some of the races of the World Before went extinct during the cataclysmic event, and some have only been seen but a few times since, but I won't have any restrictions on what race the players want to be.

I'm definitely interested in this. As someone mentioned before, I'd like to hear more details whenever it should become available.

Tolkien-esque <3!

I am very intrigued by this as well! You mentioned magic was still about? Are there restrictions to playing such characters? Additionally, what manner of magic would it be?

I don't see why not. As long as you can describe what they would've been like in the World Before, what they did during the cataclysm (Namely, did they help try and stop it or not), and what they're like now. Any visual aids would help me, as well, since the group could find (your race name here)-ian ruins/artifacts/etc.

Working on editing the first post now, as well, for those who wanted more info. I'll get the setting and backstory up, as well as a few other blurbs.

Magic is still around, yes. And players are more than welcome to make a mage character if they so wish.

I'll get into detail in the OP, but as a summary, magic involves binding or attuning oneself to an elemental plane (in game these planes are called Chasms, and travel between the physical and elemental planes is possible), and then "spells" are simply manipulating and moving (in game called Shifting) things from the elemental plane into the physical one.

A mage attunes oneself to a plane during a process called Archtonement, during which they must sacrifice a physical part of their body to bind themselves to the element of their choosing.

There we go- added some more info to the first post. I'll let that simmer for a bit and then see about getting a main thread up.

Again, thanks for the interest guys!

First, you had my attention. Now, you have my interest. I'm really into this post-apocalypse/fantasy realm fusion thing and I think, even if I say so myself, that it's within my capabilities to create a well-rounded character to fit into it. I'd like very much to participate.

Yes, definitely plan on joining.

I'm usually not a fan of dwarves/elves (which is why I asked) since they get shoved down our throat in every fantasy world ever, but this world is definitely interesting. Interested in playing something like a holy knight or maybe a white mage. We'll have to see.

Did any new races/forces emerge as a result of the Worldbane?

Technically, yes. The corruption the Worldbane left behind when they left molded and twisted much of the world's flora and fauna, so I'd imagine that there could be a few "major" races that could've been corrupted, as well, especially if said race was very animal-like. As for generation of a new species on its own, no.

As for powers- it's been too short of a time for anyone to know entirely. Whether or not mages can or cannot control this new "Corruption Chasm" (Assuming there even is a Chasm for it [Spoiler: there is], is shrouded in mystery. At the start of the roleplay there would've been a few reports of a mage doing such, but absolutely no one would ever trust them for any reason whatsoever. Plus, no one really knows if controlling that kind of power changes a person or not.

So in terms of new forces, yes, one emerged, though it isn't widely accessible as the other Chasms, not to mention that Archtonement is difficult nowadays since there's only a handful of peoples who were taught the ritual processes in the first place. Not that I'm condemning the creation of mage characters, just realize that Archtonement is a difficult process made even more difficult now. Actually, having someone in the party be an aspiring mage wanting to go through Archtonement could be a pretty cool story arch, I think.

But anywho, I'll start on the main thread now. Shouldn't take too terribly long, since a big chunk of it is already here.

And yet again, thanks to those who showed interest!
