You have a day phase where only enemies were in the dark, and then a night phase where enemies were in the night and in the dark and these two enemies also fought each other and you and also other creatures there that could fight or work with you etc.

No the cubes would be perfect because it keeps the feel of the game, but also gives it a generic store-brand twist. Like when you buy Mt Holla because it's cheaper than Mountain Dew: it's cheaper, but tastes exactly the same.
