It has been half a century since World War III. Nations from all over the world were devastated in the nuclear attacks, leaving the land in ruins. From the ashes two new empires arose like phoenixes. In the east, covering the former Asia, Eastern Russia, and Southern Africa, the Silver Empire took control. Very little is known about it apart from its name and territory. Spanning from the former Americas to what used to be Europe and Northern Africa, the Golden State dominated, taking over with brute force. The State demolished all weaponry within its own land (not including what it used to start up a new war with the Silver Empire) to prevent rebellion and used excessive security - hidden cameras, microphones, and a secret police known as the Reapers - to keep its people under control.

The Golden State established a rigid job system, where a person is assigned a permanent task at birth. The job is determined by a technologically advanced aptitude machine, which is known by the common people as the Boss. The machine judges one’s potential IQ, physical limits, emotional limits, et cetera to pick the most fitting job. Once assigned a duty, a person is put into “training” to learn how to carry it out efficiently. The training consists of mainly of hypnopedia, or “sleep-learning”, until the age of five. This technique uses a recorded voice to convey information while the target is asleep. It ingrains ideas or skill sets in a person’s sub conscience that are difficult to reverse. At five years of age, one would be sent to a trade school for his or her job to build upon the hypnopedic teachings. Most Golden State citizens end up working between the ages of ten and sixteen, depending on how difficult the work is.

With the differing job difficulties comes the caste system. There are three levels: Alpha, Beta, and Omega.

Despite the looming presence of the Reapers, the overwhelming power of the government, and the lack of weapons, there is a rumor floating around of a rebellion. No one knows if it is true or who is involved if it is. All anyone knows is that it calls itself the Insurgency. The Alphas are aware of the rumor, but always act like it doesn't faze them in the slightest. After all, they are the ones who have all the weapons. Still, they keep a close eye on the Betas who would have the most reason and the best opportunity to start a rebellion.

Important Details

In this RP, you can be from any of the three castes. You can choose if you are already in the Insurgency, hoping a recruiter will notice you, or completely against the idea of a rebellion. Note that Alphas are going to be against the Insurgency, not for it (I might allow one Alpha to be in the rebellion as an exception, but no more). This rebellion will be a little different since the Golden State government is hoarding all the weapons. The members of the Insurgency will have to get creative as to how they plan to attack the Alpha controllers without firearms.

Name: Matthew Abbot

Age: 24

Appearance:

Caste: Beta

Occupation: New Information Department; Non-fiction Literature Censorship

Personality: Matthew is a very curious young man. He loves puzzles and tries to find a solution to any unanswered question he comes across. He is usually serious, but that is only because his Beta hypnopedic lessons instilled a slight disgust for fun in him. "Play takes away time that could be used helping the State protect its citizens". Because of his flexible mind, however, he still attempts to make jokes and laugh from time to time to overcome his hypnotism. If social interaction were more important, Matthew would be considered a people person. He holds himself with a friendly, open demeanor when addressing coworkers which causes some to feel comfortable around him, but others to be wary because of that same hypnopedic teaching about enjoying oneself.

If he didn't outwardly respect the Great Protector (government) so highly, the Alphas probably would have sent a Reaper after him a long time ago. Matthew has perfected his pseudo love of their leaders to the point where the Spies don't pay him much attention anymore, assuming his occasional joking is just the result of a defect in his hypnopedia. This gives Matthew an advantage in working for the Insurgency.

Bio: Matthew was always a thinker, even when he was a small child. His favorite question was "Why?" He learned early on not to ask it out loud though, as curiosity was forbidden. He was forced to just accept everything he was told, but he secretly always tried to solve what he didn't understand on his own. In the time he spent alone, he would sharpen his mind by analyzing what he was taught for his future job working for the N.I.D.

Matthew was employed when he turned 14. This was a year earlier than most Betas graduated Information Trade School, but his teacher noticed how he excelled in the class and reported his progress to the Department Head Alpha, and he was permitted to start work early. From the moment he began his duty of censoring books, it didn't feel right. Why couldn't people express their own ideas, especially when they were good ones? He read countless works from people who might have become famous for their ideas, had the public been able to hear about them. But because the ideas went against what the Great Protector said, they were forcibly censored.

Two years later, one of his coworkers, Richard Jones, took notice of his increasing frustrations. Jones stopped him in the hallway after work one day and had a brief but polite conversation with Matthew. Afterwards, the two shook hands, and Matthew felt a the man slip a piece of paper into his hand during the exchange. Upon reading it later in the privacy of his room (the installed camera couldn't quite see the far corner from its angle), he discovered that it was a date and the address of an old abandoned building. No one ever entered it on the possibility that it might collapse on their heads. Incurably curious, Matthew decided to check it out.

A week later - on the date specified by the paper - Matthew slipped away from the floods of people leaving work to visit the old building. There, he discovered and was recruited by the Insurgency. He has been working for them ever since, getting small missions to complete on papers left in his work bag, slipped him him in passing by other members, and other such secretive ways.

Part of the Insurgency?: Yes
Side-note: Yes, I did base this off of Orwell’s “1984” and Huxley’s “Brave New World” a little bit, but no, you do not have to be familiar with those books in order to join this RP. There’s enough of a difference that it won’t matter.

Name: Adrianna Fields

Age: 23

Appearance: Adrianna is a youthful girl with soft white skin. She has long straight red hair that reaches down to the small of her back. She has a small frame, and stands at a rather average height of 5'3. She is lithe and graceful, and athletically-inclined. Adrianna has a heart-shaped face adorned with deep green eyes. She has a propensity towards wearing long, beautiful dresses having been raised in luxury, but isn't afraid to don less attractive clothing to match the situation. Adrianna has a charming smile with straight white teeth, but often prefers to keep a stern face when around other Alphas, perhaps to appear superior to them.

Caste: Alpha

Occupation: Inner Circle of the Government

Personality: Adrianna has two traits that make her completely unique among the Alpha caste. The first is that she can feel empathy for the Betas and Omegas, and the second is that she is rebellious towards the government. Among the other Alphas, she appears to be completely ordinary. Outwardly she does not display her inner feeling towards their environment, and play the part of an uncaring Alpha very well. However, among the others in the Insurgency she reveals her true self: She's kind, carefree, and wants to be able to change the Golden Empire. She enjoys being among the like-minded members of the Insurgency. But in addition to this, she is also surprisingly self-aware. She knows that the majority of her 'comrades' more then likely resent her for being everything they are rebelling against. She is also aware that she would more then likely not be a part of the Insurgency if not for the fact that she is one of the few involved with the inner workings of the Government, able to be used for her connection or information. Adrianna is, of course, very smart, being one of the Alpha caste. She is also strong willed; it's hard for one rebelling against an oppressive government not to be. She is an adept liar, able to deceive the other Alphas into allowing her into the inner circle, and keeping her affiliation with the Insurgency away from those around her. Above all she reliable and loyal to her comrades, and is willing to die to bring the change she yearns for.

Bio: Even among other alphas Adrianna Field's parents were respected. They were high-level government officials whose words carried great weight. They had an entirely loveless marriage, but that was not uncommon for those in the Alpha caste. Like many, they saw there relationship as little more then a move to get ahead in life. Adrianna was raised in privilege, and it was hard for her not to become an Alpha. She scored high in both mental and physical aptitude, but when it came to an emotional evaluation the Boss detected the truth- she could, indeed, become rebellious towards the Golden State. However, with her parents influence, she was cleared to come an Alpha, and it was decided that she would have a position similar to her parents. The true results of the test were swept under the metaphorical rug, and as far as anyone was concerned, she was a perfect fit for the Alphas.

From then on Adrianna began her training to become a member of the Inner Circle. She excelled at everything she did. She was one of the most intelligent in all of her classes, and was respected by many. She was athletic, and actively participated in sports. For all intents and purposes she was everything her parents expected and more. However, as she grew, she began to recognize how awful their world truly was. They may have lived comfortably, but she began to become aware of the suffering of those below her, and she also came to realize how controlled their lives were. She was one of the very few Alphas that came to realize that society was terrible. Her resentment grew towards the government, and she truly began to wonder how she could fulfill her position working for it. But soon, she decided. She would work from the inside to change how things worked.

As soon as Adrianna had gotten out of school and fully filled her position, she realized how pointless such a dream was. It became painfully clear she was but one small person in a handful of those that decided how the government should act, and she couldn't hope to change a thing about the Golden State. Not without support, which was hard to come by because very few shared her ideas. But soon the rumors began of a group of rebels. Those rebels were the Insurgency. Adrianna accepted that a peaceful change was impossible. The other Alphas would never give up their position of power, so it had to be done by force. So she sought out the Insurgency. It was hard to find anyone connected to them, but soon she found someone. It was hard to gain their trust, and she's still not sure if she has, but she truly wants to find a way to fix their world, and is willing to do whatever it takes to enact change.

Part of the Insurgency?: Yes

I hope everything is okay!

Name: Kathrine O'Malley
Age: 22
Appearance:

Caste: Omega
Occupation: Owns a bar
Personality:
Kathrine is a bit of a mixed bag. Because of her appearance she is often mistaken as a boy. Instead of changing to fit what others wanted, she embraced it, besides, looking like a boy had it's perks. She is strong and is never afraid to stand up for herself, using her appearance and harsh words to intimidate others. She can be slightly abrupt and standoffish towards new comers, but people that know her for a long time describe her as devoted and extremely loyal. She is a bit of a perfectionist, if she has to do something, she will do it well, however she is also kindof lazy, so getting her to do something she doesn't want to is quite difficult. She can be impatient at times and stubborn, she also has a fairly short temper and bad language. When she is in a bad mood, she can be extremely sarcastic. Unlike a lot of the Omega's, she is well educated and prides herself on the collection of books that she has found or bought throughout the years.

Bio:
Throughout her life Kathrine has lived in a one (and a half) room apartment that is squeezed between a pawn shop and a medic office in the outskirts of the Omega ruins. As a child her parents were often too busy to look after her much, being to preoccupied by their bar to notice what small Katie was doing. Kathrine would often go out with her friends and explore the desolate parts of town, climbing over ruble and play make believe games that they were secret spies. They would run around from dawn till dusk, getting scraped up and muddy only to come home to their parents, sitting and chatting with Katie's, at her front door step. Often she heard them say that despite them being the lowest class, they were happy to be Omegas. They said something about the government not watching as closely. Kathrine did not know what it meant yet, and so her spy games continued.

As she grew older Kathrine noticed things about her parents. After she went to bed, they would huddle in the corner of their room and whisper to one another by candle light. Words of secret spies and government brain washing were hushed back and forth between the two adults when they thought their young daughter was asleep. Kathrine would try to listen in each night, but the words were often muffled and she could only catch some sentences before falling asleep.

When she turned 16 her parents vanished. One moment she was sitting with her mom at their table, offering to get the food that night, and when she came back they were gone. The door was ajar and the house was a mess. Kathrine, shocked, waited for their return. She stayed up the whole night and well into the next morning before coming to her senses.

Since then she had taken over the bar that her dad ran, and proved herself a very hard worker.

Part of the Insurgency?: Not yet. Once explained to Kathrine what this is, she will likely join.

Name: Jacob (Doesn't state his last name; see bio for explanation)

Age: 19

Appearance: Brown hair (curly) and caramel eyes, tough face that makes Jacob look older than he really is, mediocre build (he's no muscle man but he's no flimsy stick either)

Caste: Beta

Occupation: Old Information Department, News Alterations and Destruction

Personality: Jacob is a reserved man; not shy, but changed and hesitant, slow to reveal the truth of his life. He holds himself to a high standard because he knows what he's capable of and he knows he needs to differ himself enough from his parents who disgraced the family. But even with the so called "disgrace" Jacob is trapped in a flow that isn't moving. He doesn't truly know who his parents ever were and he doesn't know if he should love them or hate them for what they did. It's all a mystery because The Reapers are relentless. They never told Jacob why they were taken, never informed him of the missing part of his life that he never had. Society just treated his parent's act as a disgrace. A disgrace that was never revealed to Jacob.

Bio: Jacob was an active child to say the least. He was always the first to be in bed for his "nighttime lessons," as his parents referred to them. He was an active learner and it served him well when he went off to trade school. His teachers loved him and always said that he was destined for great things. He was on a path for success, a roller coaster that only went up, but, as his parents always told him, life can change quickly, given the opportunity to.

At the age of eight, Jacob's parents were taken by The Reapers. The reason was unknown to Jacob, and still is today, but the rest of the Betas, the ones who somehow knew, always made the incident a disgrace. The last name meant something bad, something that to this day Jacob still doesn't know, and therefore Jacob stopped saying his last name. He referred to himself simply as Jacob. Nothing more.

After the incident, whatever it may be, Jacob was changed. He was quiet, not so active anymore. He was reserved but still as equally brilliant as he was in his previous years. Despite his rare speech, he was motivated by something that nobody else knew about. His parent's death.

Ever since the incident, Jacob wanted to know what happened to his parents. The way he looked at it was if he could become a Reaper, he would have access to the information and power to figure out what happened to his parents. So he worked hard in trade school and eventually graduated at the top of his class when he was 14. He has been working for 5 years in The Old Information Department (News subsection) and is still working hard and waiting for his promotion.

Part of the Insurgency: Depends on his future as a potential Reaper and what he finds out about his parents.

Name: Liam O’Donnell
Age: 22

Appearance:
Liam stands tall at 1.90m (6’3’’) and has an athletic, lean build that lets him seem almost skinny at times. His skin is rather pale, stemming from his Irish ancestry. Hair the color of crimson leafs falling in autumn, paired with piercing green eyes serves merely to reinforce that impression. A slender nose, high cheekbones and thin lips give this man an almost aristocratic appearance. Liam takes pride in his meek appearance, and his hair is well kept in a mid-length state that frames his slender face in a wavy crimson cascade, sometimes brought together at the back of his skull in a short ponytail. Slim glasses occasionally frame Liam’s leaf-colored eyes, giving his appearance an academic touch. Usually seen wearing a suit sometimes paired with a coat, leather gloves and expensive looking shoes, this man looks like he means business, and not necessarily the good kind.

Caste: Alpha

Occupation: Mid-level Government official on the rise in the inner Government circle. Head of two contingents of Reapers and numerous Beta. Has his fingers in politics and judicial affairs.

Personality:
Liam is a cunning individual. His piercing green eyes that seem to scan everything and everyone around him at all times take in an extraordinary amount of information, and his mind quickly deduced every aspect of reality and breaks it down to one simple question: How can it benefit me? With a sharp tongue, a quick mind and a distinct hunger for power and wealth, Liam is ready to do what’s necessary to achieve his goals. Selfish to a degree that frightens even his peers among the Alpha. Liam is a schemer, a brilliant mind that lays out plans and who views the world as a game of chess, with every figure being replaceable and every move counting. This man’s mind is clockwork, a turning of wheels and gears, a machine of logic and cunning. Everything has a purpose, and everything has an end. Ambitious, Liam’s work as a government official was not enough for him, and so he has his hands in several pots among politics and the law. His influence is constantly growing and he is amassing powerful friends in every place he can.

Yet Liam has a soft spot in his heart and a secret he needs to protect at all cost, else everything he worked for will be for naught.

Bio:
Liam began his life under a bad star indeed. Born in what used to be Paris, his parents were members of the Omega caste. The looming outlook of a harsh, poor life hung over the baby Liam like a Damocles sword. However, fate was kind to the young child. In the regular testing that The Boss did on every newborn, an exceptionally high IQ was measured in Liam, and so he was separated from his parents. The Reapers in charge of selecting new Alpha members transported the baby over to the residencies of the Alphas and gave him to two foster parents.

The city Liam grew up in was marvelous. Rising over the ruins of Paris, The upper class had decided to set a statement of their power in the form of The Citadel – a mighty, high tech complex brimming with life and wealth. Large, post post-modern Mansions are rowing next to government buildings and temples of decadence. High-end Restaurants, large theaters, Opera – anything that is only accessible by the Alphas can be found here, built a conical shape reaching towards the skies, with the large tower at its center. Guarded by height, the only way up to the lowest levels of the citadel is either by sky lift or airship – bot inaccessible to the less privileged. At the foot of the Citadel: The sad reality. In the former agglomeration of Paris the lower castes now vegetate their meager lives. Built around the citadel, in concentrical circles, the Betas live close to the center of glory and wealth, right at the feet of the Alpha yet unable to reach them, while the Omega live further away from the center, in the dirty outskirts.

Having a high intellect and as an alpha with a high leader potential, Liam quickly rose among the ranks of his peers. Excelling in his work and with a fierce sense of ambition, he was promoted several times early on. By the age of 19, he was already a High-level government official within the inner circle, which made him a thorn in the side for some. Liam didn’t care. Hungry for wealth, privilege and power, he continued on, focusing his life on equal parts on rising up at work and enjoying everything this decadent society offered him. Booze, women, power; Liam took it all on and swallowed it whole. His life might have continued like this and he would never have known better – had it not been for a certain incident.

At the turn of his 19th birthday, Liam was assigned a job in the outer circle – the home of the Omega. Since his work in the government included occasionally keeping the Omega “in check”, this task was, if not uncommon, at least bothersome to some degree, and so Liam was determined to get it done quickly. Travelling with his two Reapers, subordinates he had been working with for years, the trip of some hundred miles took mere minutes in the anti-gravity high-speed train, one of modern technologies numerous marvels. But it was not the technology that marveled Liam on that day. It was not his first visit of the outskirts. He had been out here several times, among the filth, the rubble, and the remains of an ancient city that was the living space of the Omega. Yet this time, something was different. As Liam walked up the paved street, his Reaper subordinates opened the rust covered metal garden gate and a drab wooden door greeted them, Liam pulled out the paper from the sealed yellow envelop that contained the specifics of his task. It was the name on the paper that made his brows furrow. O’ donnell, et al. the slip of paper read. At first, he did not think much of it and as usually, without knocking, his two Reapers stormed the place, quickly and cleanly rounded up the inhabitants and lined them up on their knees, their hands bound and their heads covered in black plastic. Normal procedure, as it was. It was when he walked past the small group of people that something caught Liam’s eye. Among the four residents lined up in front of him, one was particularly frail, merely more than a child. Not that this was the first time Liam had taken a child, no, but this child moved something in Liam he was not used to feel. As his eyes lingered on the thin figure, kneeling there, trembling and giving off small, feminine sobs, Liam stopped in his tracks and stared. The name O’Donnell flashed before his eyes again and a realization dawned in his mind. Reaching out, slowly, almost hesitantly, Liam ignored the inquiring “Sir?” and pulled off the black sack. Streams of red hair, countless freckles on pale skin and green eyes mirroring Liam’s own stared at him, frightened, teary. If the man had not had a heart until know, it was in this instant, this flickering moment in time that it started beating. Still ignoring the uncomfortable shifting of his subordinates he brought himself down eye to eye with the girl. “How old are you?” Liam’s voice, usually harsh and precise as a winter storm, had taken on an almost kind tone. “F-fourteen.” It was the voice that gave Liam the final push. “Where are… your parents?”. “They.. They passed away last month”. For just a brief second, Liam closed his eyes. Memories flashed his mind. Memories when he asked his colored foster parents who his real parents were. Memories that were silenced. The clockwork that was this man’s mind spun out of control for the first time. He knew the next steps of the procedure. He knew where these people would be taken. What he’d do to them. What they’d do to them. The screams. The questions. So Liam stood up and shot his subordinates.

There were records of an incident. On a routine round-up one of the residents resisted, overwhelmed one Liam O’Donnell, took his gun and killed two officers. The house in which the incident took place was burned down, a result of a stray bullet hitting an oil tank and the subjects to be retrieved were presumed dead in the fire. O’Donnell survived, returned to the Citadel as the only eye witness and was demoted for his failure.

At the same time, a young girl began working at a bar in the outskirts.

Part of the Insurgency?: No. But who knows how far he might be willing to go to secure a good life for his sister. He has no interest in the well-being of the Omega and Beta class as a whole, but he’d give his life for her safety.

Diggerton: Adrianna is accepted.

Darkwolfsoul010: Kathrine is accepted

Simplicity: Jacob is accepted. Just keep in mind that the Insurgency only reveals themselves to people they think will join them without hesitation, so if Jacob is striving to become a Reaper, they most likely won't approach him

Enigma: I really like Liam's character. There's just a couple things I noticed that don't quite fit the RP. The first: there is no job promotion in any caste other than the Betas becoming Reapers, and each person only has one job: the one he/she was assigned at birth. From Liam's bio, I'd suggest you stick with Head of the Reapers. He can still be ambitious to catch anyone that stands against the Golden State and be a tough opponent for the Insurgency. The other thing I noticed was only a minor detail. The Alphas, while having an extensive amount of privileges, weren't originally intended to have that much access to high-tech devices. I never specified when the world was torn apart by WWIII though, so I'll let you have that. Just don't go too over-the-top with the futuristic aspect, because the Golden State put a stop to scientific advancements (they wouldn't want people to realize what they could accomplish without their Great Protector. It's part of the whole 'never raise the standard of living' thing). Apart from those two details, Liam looks pretty good.

Good point. I still have an idea for my character so I'll develop it as the RP advances. If I can slide in what I want to do then I will, if I can't, I won't.

How many people are you looking for before you begin the IC?

Name: Verity Daniels
Age: 18
Appearance: Despite being an Omega, as a servant for an Alpha she is required to maintain a clean and presentable appearance. She isn't short but isn't tall, standing about 5' 9" with a thin, almost frail body. She possesses milky white skin matched by almost equally pale golden hair. Her face is adorned with her watery blue eyes that give her a childlike innocence. Along with her eyes is her petite and slightly upturned nose followed by her small mouth that adds to her childlike innocence. Cute is the word people would describe her as.
Caste: Omega
Occupation: Servant/Cook

Personality: Verity is very shy and obedient girl who is easily frightened and flustered. She also suffers from haemophobia, or fear of blood (which will frequently make her faint). All these factors combined make her far from strong-willed. That is certainly not to say she is slow, though many might think her so solely based on the facts she rarely speaks and is easily frightened. She is quite smart and can pick up on most social cues adeptly. Most being not the ones related to relationships and friendships, most being things like when she is needed and when she is intruding on something, the mood of a person and other such things. She also has a remarkable memory, though she rarely shares it with others for fear of being thought of as weird or unusual.

Bio: Verity was born in the outer district to rather, disconnected parents. They didn't love Verity overmuch, but they fed her and clothed her and taught her manners while she was going through hypnopaedia. When she was finished, for obvious personality reasons she was selected as a near perfect servant, obedient and able to be cowed easily. When she was sent off to trade school to learn how to cook and clean and other servant duties, her parents were almost glad to be rid of her. Less work for them they thought. Verity however, was devastated. They were the only people she had ever been close to. Her shyness and the societal lack of emphasis on friendship made it so Verity remained on her own through out the whole of trade school. Finally graduation day came. She was picked out by an Alpha and that was that. She thought maybe things would change. Maybe she'd make a friend even.

Things didn't change. Most servants were too busy with chores and duties, Verity included. At least things were predictable. She saw the same people every day and made up little stories about how they too were dying to talk with her and be friends. Even about her Alpha, she pretended like they noticed her and were proud of the dutiful little cook. However the truth is that she is too shy to ask anyone how they are doing or if they'd like to talk some time. The days have blended together for Verity but she doesn't mind at all. Her one regret is that she hasn't made a single friend her whole life.

Part of the Insurgency?: No, she spends so much time around Alphas and Omegas she has only heard rumours from other servants

I hope that's decent enough. Also if any of you guys playing Alphas wants her as a servant feel free, otherwise the Alpha will just be unnamed.

WARNING: I am in a foreign country. The only access I have to the internet is when I'm at my hotel. I will still write on the go but I won't be able to post until I'm home. I still should be able to post each day but stick with me if I don't. This is only going to be in place for 5 or 6 days. Thanks for understanding :)

EDIT: Figured out I'm only in a foreign country for 4 more days :)
So I'll be able to get home faster than anticipated.
And in my original post I made it seem like I won't be able to post until I get home. I mean't I won't be able to post until I'm back at my hotel for the day. I will be able to check the roleplay and hopefully post everyday. No worries :)

Figured out I'm only in a foreign country for 4 more days :)
So I'll be able to get home faster than anticipated.
And in my original post I made it seem like I won't be able to post until I get home. I mean't I won't be able to post until I'm back at my hotel for the day. I will be able to check the roleplay and hopefully post everyday. No worries :)

There's no rule for posting daily. You just have to be able to get something in once a week, so don't worry about it lol
