Are we truly alone in the universe? Humanity received its answer on April 29, 2016. It was by chance SETI picked up the meteorites headed straight for the surface of the Earth. Though a year away, fanatical groups preached about the coming apocalypse, news channels flooded with unjustified rumors, and the world powers blamed one another for purposefully seeding chaos into their countries. Months later, however, NASA yielded news that the objects were slowing. The first broadcast commenced.

Emerging on every single screen on Earth was a species entirely different from humanity yet similar in many respects. Humanoid in nature whilst garbed with the palest of rotting skin, the first Pantheon stood crudely integrated with various machines. The world powers sought to communicate with the pantheons but nothing was ever sent back. All the broadcast showed was a single alien staring blankly from the screen.

Weeks of communicating unsuccessful, the United Earth Sphere Alliance, U.E.S.A, was created in expectations of hostile first contact. The militaries merged while weapons were developed. Though old roots of contrasting ideologies still remained, humanity united under a common cause. To protect itself from the pantheons, if it should ever come to open warfare

April 24, 2017. The skies burned a terrible red as meteors showered from the skies. When the smoke from the ruined landscape and cities dissipated, a war machine so terrible emerged as pantheon soldiers strode forth. The machine-flesh race swept through each country with legendary speed. Cities burned from their arsenal. Their large spider-like war machines tore through the ranks of the U.E.S.A armed forces. For a time, during what came to be known as the First Contact Wars, humanity was kept on the defensive as front lines receded by the day.

Soon, the tide changed when humanity finally began to innovate. With new military weapons, vehicles, and aircrafts better catered to combat the pantheons, humanity managed to halt the extraterrestrial advance. However, though the zones behind the new defensive lines were protected, millions were left behind to survive for themselves. Ghastly rumors of many being abducted and changed into pantheon foot soldiers began to circulate amongst survivors beyond the defensive line. While many went underground and hid from the pantheons, pockets of resistance fought back against the unwelcome guests.

The year is 2017. Humanity is scattered. The deadliest enemy tramples upon rotting Earth. Will you stand amongst the abandoned survivors whom strike from the rubble or a battle hardened U.E.S.A soldier?

Forged on uneasy ties and the necessity of resisting the pantheons, the United Earth Sphere Alliance was backed by the United States, European Union, and the Russian Federation. Soon enough the rest of the world countries joined. Only Australia remained outside the U.E.S.A.

Little is known about the Pantheons other than the major battles that the U.E.S.A carried out against the extraterrestrials. The following documents were procured from military personnel whom successfully extracted information from pantheon terminals of field communicators.

At maximum, I'd like around 10 people. There really isn't a minimum since this will be quite open - depending if you're playing as a survivor or a soldier. Background is at your discretion. You can give a skeletal background and leave details for the IC or vice verse.

This is as advanced as a typical soldier will be. The more advanced technology lies with vehicular units. I'll post reference pictures to those in a moment.

Name: Hayden Tanner

Call-sign/Nickname: Mako

Age: 25

Nationality: Italian, and Spanish

Appearance: Hayden stands at 6'1" with broad shoulders, and a lean, muscular, athletic build. His skin complexion is tan and his eyes are blue. Coming from Italian-Spanish descent his hair is dark, thick, and typically cut in a fade fashion along with a clean shaven face due to military restrictions.

Battle Suit:

- ODS Helmet with reinforced protection: The helmet has a Oxygen Delivery System that feeds air into the mouth and nostrils when going through a free fall or drop. This is so that they wearer does not pass out from extreme altitude changes and can prepare for combat all the way down until he is on his feet.

- Lightweight Exoskeleton: The armor Valkyrie teams wear are somewhat new. These suits can withstand a good bit of wear and tear while also allowing for increased maneuverability. The armor does not rub at any point against itself which creates less noise when walking in this armor.

Occupation: U.E.S.A. Air Force, Valkyrie Team

Background:

Sgt. Hayden Tanner of Valkyrie Squad, served as Military Police before qualifying for the Air Assault school. Completing the school granted him an invite to a special operations unit called "Valkyrie". The U.E.S.A. Air Force isn't winning the war in the sky but it is implementing strategies by creating specialized units to help win the war on the ground using the air technology and vehicles they do have. Valkyrie teams are comprised of 4 pilots, and 12 men at a time on shift, 4 to 6 man rotation, 24 hour mission ready. There are a small number of Valkyrie teams but each one has some of the very best soldiers the U.E.S.A. has to offer.

Valkyrie teams are trained at a specialized school once other prerequisites are met through other schools. They are assigned to rescuing downed pilots, injured squads performing missions behind enemy lines, and intercepting enemy routes. Skilled in rifle shooting, squad maneuvering, first aid, hand to hand, air assault, and close quarter combat. Valkyrie teams are seen as the angels of the battle field, a sigh of relief is typically in order when infantry sees a Valkyrie team entering the battlefield.

Sgt. Hayden was Military Police when the First Contact War began, his commanding officer referred him to the Air Assault school, which would have just been built with a curriculum created 6 months after the beginning of the war. This referral was due to the enemy gaining ground all over the world and the U.E.S.A. looking for more capable soldiers to fill the shoes of those who have fallen already. Hayden accepted understanding his chances of death would greatly increase. The world needed men, and Hayden had no issue with furthering himself, his training, in giving the world one more man to put up against the toughest enemy the world has yet to see.

Hayden has now performed over 15 drops and earned the call sign "Mako". During one operation his drop coordinates were scrambled and he ended up 2 clicks from his target location. The rest of his team were dropped in their correct spots but only moments after linking up they were ambushed by the enemy. Hayden would trek the mile and a half before encroaching enemy positions from behind and eliminating their firing positions, one by one. 2 of his team members were killed, 3 injured, and Hayden left with a stab wound in his lower abdomen but it unsuccessfully penetrated any vital organs and with being first aid qualified he quickly bandaged it and received care later. He received Mako as his nickname, fast, deadly, and sneaky all at the same time, he saved 3 lives that day, lives that swear they would not be here if not for his efforts. It's the 2 that they lost who are remembered and missed the most however.

Where will the PCs be based? How will resistance groups around the world communicate with each other? Can we do radio morse code, pulling out the excuse that it's too primitive of a communication method that the pantheons don't know about it?

Will the survivor resistance groups have some basic weaponry and if so, what kind of weaponry? Do they have access to body armor? I suppose the resistance would have learned a trick or two to bring down the gunners in an easier manner and escape from the rest.

Name: Trake Bonhomme

Call-sign/Nickname: Auris

Age: 29

Nationality: French

Appearance:

Occupation: U.E.S.A, U.E.M.C Trooper, Sergeant

Background: Trake was born in Bordeaux in 1988, father to an American Gregory serving in the French Foreign Legion, and a French nurse Evette. The relationship between the two deteriorated quickly, with Trake’s mother leaving sometime after Trake’s 6th birthday. Trake’s father soon after left the service to raise Trake properly, finding quiet work being a ranch hand on a small goat farm in the countryside.

Keeping true to the military regimes he was so used to, and wanting his son to be a better man than he, Greg taught Trake to treasure knowledge and it’s use to dominate and outsmart enemies. On top of encouraging Trake’s interest in his school teachings, Greg also slowly introduced Trake to strategic study and the use of tacticity and strategy in the field of war, from both the standpoint of a 5-Star general and that of a foot trooper. Along with the strategic aspect of his military teaching, Trake also became interested in participating in the fitness and combat readiness drills that his father had gone through so much as a Foreign Legion troop.

When he became of appropriate age, about 14, Greg began to really put Trake’s fitness and reflexes to the test, instituting more vigorous, military-like drills, and enlisting Trake’s help on the goat farm. Strategy board and video games became in high demand as Trake wanted to use even his down time to train the more intelligent side of his regime. Real time strategy and games set in time of Roman domination were among his favorite. Soon, he moved on to more intense, realistic strategic wargames.

Finally joining the military right out of high school, the years of preparation made Trake a shoe in for the military, and easy candidate for the command positions, but focusing so much time on training himself left Trake lacking most social skills, and being completely solitary and standoffish in training. He did not get along very well with his fellow troopers, and other young officer candidates disliked him because of his tendency to take plans into his own hands, forgetting the others even existed to work with. They may have also been jealous of Trake’s obviously more advanced skills in the art of strategic warfare, but that’s another story.
Eventually, though, Trake decided to take his career into the infantry divisions, the words of his father echoing in his mind. “If you’re going to be an officer, earn it. Don’t get anything like that handed to you. Acquérir.” Even then, he was quickly moved to the leader of a squad of about 6 men, and sent into the Middle East, where most of the operations that his squad participated in were successes with little to no casualties.

After a few tours, Trake had been affected greatly by the horrors of the Middle East, and went into a more obscure part of the military, away from the combat, until he finally left and found work on the same goat farm, which his father still worked.

After a few quiet years of falling into alcoholism and mild depression, Trake’s skill and expertise was called upon with the invasion of Earth by the Pantheon. Although reluctant and still struggling with alcoholism, Trake reentered a military, although this time, under the flag of the U.E.S.A instead of France. His father also re-enlisted, using his prior experience to earn a position in the commanding officers of U.E.S.A.

The location of each PC definitely depends. Those who are soldiers can either be on the defensive line that separates Pantheon controlled zones from human controlled ones or could be part of the force left behind and in the resistance groups.

Morse code? I actually like that concept a lot! I was thinking that they'd be isolated for a time, but I can see the feasibility in having morse code.

The survivors are a little more complex. Given that each survivor group would most likely be civilian based, what equipment they pick up would be a mx of domestic weaponry and those left behind by the military. So, to answer your question more directly, basic weaponry will be available and so is body armor - to an extent. It'd be a very rare thing to come across - the body armor that is.

Exactly. Without the ability to rely on more advanced weaponry the U.E.S.A have developed since planet fall, the resistance and survivor groups will most certainly have learned effective tactics to use against the pantheons.
As to the two whom have submitted character sheets, I'm still reading them, but they seem good so far. Summer term isn't being kind on my free time.

Also, I will be creating characters for each respective group. So, for those here and perhaps potential folks. Feel free to make a survivor, resistance member, or soldier. There will be direction for each even though this plot is relatively very much an open world concept.

I shall have my CS up soon.

I like the Valkyrie concept very much! A very refined and technologically advanced form of a paratroopers, no? While I believe the ODS helmet and that battle suit would most certainly have been developed - protype-ish given the timeline - I'm not sure how I feel with the exoskeleton suit enhancing the maneuverability of the operative. The only way any human being can have 'augmented' abilities is through the Specials branch, which I'm restricting for now.

Otherwise, I think the character concept is very well done. Please let me know if I misunderstood the suit. Great concept, just giving it a slight reality check.

Enjoyed the biography Firecracker. I couldn't really find anything that stood out to me as unrealistic or unreasonable given the time period we're operating under. I'll go ahead and move this to the character roster in a moment.

@DragonBeastMode

I couldn't quote your hider for some reason, so please excuse the break in the above trend. Anyways, the overall concept of your character is quite interesting. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the machine gun leg. Due to the desire of realism (juuussst disregard the aliens and such), I'm not sure it would be fitting to have something like that. Perhaps a prosthetic? I can see the reasoning behind the limb being discussed, but it's just not flying with me.

I hate to be that one GM that's super nit-picky. Would you mind changing it?

I just took a peek. Much better Dragon. I'll give your CS a once over later today and give you my thoughts then!

Also, I realized I didn't answer one of your earlier questions. I'm trying to find a map and mark it up accordingly to determine where the Pantheons and U.E.S.A respectively are. From there, I can give you a more accurate starting location.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a preference to where they'd like to start? Survivor, resistance, soldier.

I was thinking the U.E.S.A would have a very strong position in Alaska, New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts), Canada, Greenland, UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and upper west and north Russia. I was thinking New Zealand could be a ghost country. Namely, no contact has been made with them, so they could either be under Pantheon occupation or just operating under the radar.

Pantheons would have everything else due to the mass exodus of militaries to the above countries.

Survivors could be anywhere. Resistance included.
