Another dreary morning in an even more predictable dreary day in Dexter's life. The alarm woke him up from his weekend off from work and he glared at the alarm. Whoever made up Monday's had to seriously be eviscerated. But that was the already cranky thoughts of the young man who got up anyway and took a cooler shower to fully wake up his system and got dressed for work, brushing then messing up his black hair a bit out of habit. He didn't need to dress classy which he supposed was a blessing as he was pretty sure he wouldn't be all that fetching in a suit. He tried the constraining thing once in his life and that was for his aunts wedding and he adamantly REFUSED to wear one ever again. He would be late from the way he enjoyed to sleep in, so ran out the door and went down the street to get a quick bagel and small coffee for breakfast needing both the food and the caffeine to be a normal human being at work. Already he could say that the day would pretty much weigh him down, and he was absolutely right. It seemed that no matter what he did, it was wrong. Even when he didn't do anything, again that could be his irritation speaking but by noon, he was ready to snap and yell at someone, didn't matter who. He groans as he was sent to some part of the building that only a few people worked at, looking for Frank to fix something or another that someone with a standard knowledge of computers can do with just a few clicks of the mouse. He was fighting the urge to punch something as he walked down the hall looking for where Frank could be working. "Frank!" He called looking around when he thought he heard something and turned around, but when he did, nothing was there. He rose an eyebrow wondering if he had been hearing things and continued on.

There was a wheezing sound in the air as a 1960's London Police Box materalized out of thin air in a dark alley between two buildings. After it was fully there, the door opened and a leather clad female stepped out.

She looked around her analyzing her surroundings. "Hmm, 2000's. 2007 maybe?" She said under her breath before taking out her sonic and checking the signal she got. It was close. She placed her hand on the TARDIS and patted it twice. Before she then followed the signal to a mall? "This should be exciting." She said with a small smirk before walking in.

When Dexter couldn't find Frank he started to get worried. "What's going on here, I thought they said he'd be here." He said mostly to himself muttering but then another weird sound went through the building. "If that's you Frank, I'm not in the mood!" Dexter said irritated going closer and closer to the sound to see what it was. He was smarter than that, certainly, but if the sound led to his getting out of this situation faster, then so be it. He then saw the mannequins and rose an eyebrow confused. "What in the world?" Then they started to shakily move. "Oh real funny. This is really starting to get on my nerves. Whose big idea was this then?!" He said but when they continued to march forward, the instinct of flight kicked in and he backed away to a wall, starting to get nervous.

The Doctor managed to find her way into the basement where she saw a human being cornered by plastic mannequins. Another person to save, she thought before quickly running around the mannequins to the human. She then grabbed his arm before saying one word to him. "Run." She breathed out with a grin before running away while dragging him with her to the elevators with the mannequins pursuing them. They made it to the lift where the doors began to close but, the lead mannequin stuck his hand in keeping it from closing and the Doctor grabbed the hand and after a few tugs, tore the arm off it's body allowing the doors to close and they began moving.

Following the advice of the voice, Dexter ran with the female, not seeing any other choice if he wanted to live much longer, her hand on his arm slipping to his hand almost a natural fashion, as they made it to the elevator but the plastic mannequins had stuck an arm in and he jerked to the back as whoever it was that saved him, popped the arm off and the elevator started moving. He was suddenly a bit tongue tied, but determined to find an answer to what just happened. "Was that some sort of student thing?" He questioned but figured that no real human could have their arms pop open without some sort of blood escaping, or maybe they were holding onto the plastic arm through the armhole. Not very logical thinking, especially since that thing looked purely plastic, but it was really the only explanation he was coming up with at the moment.

The Doctor was analyzing the arm as the guy spoke and once he was done she looked at him. "Students? Why would they be students?" She asked him with a raised eyebrow turning to him completely. She was curious as to what she was thinking.

Now Dexter felt silly for asking such a question. Great way to start things out. "Well...a bunch of people walkin' around in plastic suits, for a laugh at someone else's expense, kind of sounds like something students would do." He said explaining his reasoning. It was logical for him to jump to that conclusion. Course, it was the only thing that didn't sound as crazy as self moving plastic, and he really didn't want to sound crazy. Especially in front of this stranger.

The Doctor stared at him for a few seconds before she quickly brightened up. "That makes sense, well done." She complimented with a huge smile. Before she quickly sobered up. "But, they aren't students though." She explained.

The smile on the stranger's face made her seem her age. Sure she looked young, but there was an old look in her eyes as if she's seen things no one else has or ever will, add to it that she seemed to be weighed down with some sort of bone deep sadness, and Dexter thought her smile was beautiful. He bashfully tugs on his ear not knowing what to say to that as the elevator stopped. "What happened to Frank?" He asked concerned for the man he had been searching for. He might not have had the best of days starting out, but he didn't wish real harm to anyone, even if he came close to actually being violent today.

The Doctor looked at him with a confused look on her face that she doesn't have too often. "Frank?" She asked him before a look of realization crossed her features. "Frank is dead." She said before she started to leave once they reached outside.

It was horrible news to learn that someone was dead. He followed the stranger who saved his life not certain where else to go, and besides this way led to an exit anyway. "Just who are you anyway?" He at first got no answer, as if she hadn't heard him. "I'm asking for a name." He said a bit louder his build up of irritation showing in his tone just a little bit, but when one was bushed to the brink of breaking, one did tend to have a different tone than normal. All he wanted was to know who saved his life and what she had done to the elevator with that strange metallic device in her hand that made a whirring sound.

The Doctor ignored him a bit before turning to him with an annoyed look on her face. "My name? My name is The Doctor." She said finally before glancing at the building behind them. They were pretty far away from it. She then looked back at him before tossing the plastic arm to him. "Now, if you'll escuse me." Giving him a simple nod of her head before turning on her heel and begining to walk away.

Out of automatic reflex, Dexter caught the plastic arm and seeing no other solution in mind, he went off his own direction his thoughts circling around the confusion that was the girl who called herself 'The Doctor'. Well there was no way he could say anything, people would think he was nuts. That was when the mall exploded. He hoped that whoever she was, was safe running past a blue police box, not having seen it as he wasn't expecting to.

The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS after he ran past and watched as he ran away. She sighed before turning on her heel and walking back to the TARDIS before walking in. And within a few seconds of the infamous wheezing, the TARDIS was gone.

Dexter got home seeing his worried parent Harold Sterling, his dad seeing as his mother seemed to have disappeared who only knew where when he had been young. Harold looked his son over and gave him a hug happy to see him whole and healthy. "I didn't hear from you and then I saw the news that your work got blown up." He answers the phone as one of his many friends called him. Dexter got his hair and poor eyesight from his father, his height and his eye color he got from his mother's side of the family. "Hello Marianne. Yeah, Dexter's home seeming on carrying a plastic arm of all things, I think he may be a little shocked but otherwise he seems unharmed." And Dexter finally noticed that he was indeed still holding the arm. He should have gotten rid of it. Then his obnoxious...oh he really shouldn't really be calling Jessica names. He and Jessica had been friends practically since in diapers.
"I been worried sick about you!" Jessica said.
"I'm fine...just a bit...shocked." Dexter said trying his best to sound placating.
"Well, I know just what will do for you. How about you unwind with a couple of beers?" Oh Jesus.
"There's a party going on isn't there?" He asked pretty much knowing the answer to that.
"Well, Harriette's throwing it, but we would only stay for a bit."
"Thank you but no thanks. I'm just going to toss this in the garbage and have an early night."
"Well, let me take care of that for you then. You've had a rough night after all." Jessica leaves after mockingly places the hand by her throat and pretending to be choking and leaves making Dexter roll his eyes affectionately. She was a bit of a drama queen Jessica. And he did just as he said he was doing, and slept early that night, the arm being deposited in the bin outside the apartment complex that he lived in.

(It's fine. Been there.)

~NEXT DAY~

The TARDIS materialized in a different alley. The Doctor stepped out of it with her sonic screwdriver out. She turned it on and the buzzing noise filled the air as she scanned around before looking at the readings. "So, it's coming from...." She whispered under her breath as she began following the signal to a neighborhood house. She stood on the doorstep with a confused look. The signal was coming from here? She tried to peek in any windows but couldn't see anything.

She then decided to look through the cat flap hoping to see something.

Dexter had woken up early as an automatic response to being woke up early day after day and took a shower when he realized that he had no work to go to. He heard the cat flap go. Its not like the two didn't like animals but they couldn't afford to have them so had nailed it shut. "Dad? Didn't you nail the cat flap?"
"Course I did." Harold said in his room getting ready for work.
"Well..." Dexter said picking up a nail from the floor and looked at the cat flap as the startling blue eyes of the Doctor met his startled grey ones. He opened the door surprised. "What are you doing here?" He asked confused.

The Doctor looked at him with surprise. What was he doing here? And she voiced her thoughts. "What are you doing here?" She asked him with shock and slight disapointment in her voice. She looked at her sonic again, scanning it around. "I must have gotten the wrong signal. Are you plastic?" She asked before knocking on his head hard. "Nope, bonehead. Bye bye." She said giving him a small wave before turning around in order to leave.

"I live here. And I got rid of that thing yesterday." Dexter said.
"Whose that Dexter?"
"Compensation." He lied instinctively as he took the Doctor's arm and dragged her into his house. Alright, now what? Actually he didn't ever think he'd see her again. "Tea, coffee?" He asked to be hospitable as he went to the kitchen adjacent to the living room. The apartment was a good sized three room apartment. Jessica usually was over their house sleeping over anyway so his dad had thought three bedrooms were fine.
"About the explosion?"
"No, for the flooding." Dexter shot back sarcastically and pinched his nose. "You're going to be late dad so quit stalling." He said as his dad came out and took a look at the girl who was 'compensation' studying her curiously. She couldn't be no more than thirty at the maximum or maybe even twenty-seven really. But who was he to judge? People were not always what they seemed on the outside.
"Sure and we'll talk about your tone later." Dexter just rolled his eyes as his dad finally left for work.
