The world has stayed the same for many centuries, life has revolved around magic, it became a essential for every day living. That is until steam and thaumaturgy were discovered, as the two elements intertwined, it slowly became a equivalent to the old magic, the races and peoples who still used it waged a bloody war against those who trust in technology, but we underestimated our enemy, they had prepared when we had assumed they had not, we were forced to retreat into the largest remaining kingdom left which had not yet outlawed the old magic and peoples who use it, deep in the heart of the wilderness. The first idea I have, looking at this, would be for an undercover spellcaster who doesn't let on that he can do magic, and using subtle enchantments (a small bad luck curse here, twist someone's mind to make them more open to his ideas there...) works his way into a position of economic power as a major metal supplier with contracts to most of the organizations that turn metal into tools and weapons for the anti-magic military groups.

Thing is, with spellcasters under his command working at key points in his mines and factories, they slowly weave enchantments into the metal they ship- individually the enchantments are small, somewhat easy to do, really just little more than targeting marks painting all the metal that they use.

With the aid of a large technomagical focus to amplify his power, this would let him (once a certain threshold of market permeation has been reached and a solid majority of current military enterprises uses such metal) he could unleash a more potent enchantment on it- oh, say, heating it to five times melting point for all of three seconds, enough to turn the entire opposing force into molten slag.

Could end up turning the war around and pretty well winning it without the mages even knowing what he was up to.

I actually really like the thought of that. Although the enemy isn't entirely without magic, just a combination of steam and a little bit of thaumaturgy (I am planning on working it in as a custom, small element just enhancing their technology, so although they do not directly deal with magic such as spell casting, they still have a custom form of thaumaturgy nonetheless.)

In that case, probably they would just need to ensure that the targeting spell that they put on the metal was subtle- I picture it as a sort of backdoor that would let them hit it with spells that bypass any other protective enchantments or anything on the metal.

Would you like to help me further develop this story? it seems a bit lacking as is, but I'm sure if it is developed it could be a really enjoyable RP, and i do need help coming up with ideas.
