I grow concerned about the threat of my brother's Shadowlings. Though mortal, they seek to do harm towards the humans that Manus had so carefully created. If they were tainted, let alone harmed, neither my brethren nor I would like to face such wrath.
So, I imbue a bit of my essence into certain individuals whom I found to be pure of heart and strong of mind. I bless them with the power to defend the righteous not by way of sword, spear or arrow, but with fists and sticks. I teach them the ways of unarmed combat, how to fell a man with a single punch. I teach them how to harness their physical will into chi, which they can draw power from for devastating attacks. But before I grant my followers with these abilities, I make them swear a solemn oath: to specially use these powers in defense of their settlements and communities, and never turn on their fellows unless in an act of self-defense.
Meanwhile, the few who have not entirely mastered harnessing their chi I give to them the right to command my griffin-steeds, to tame them and ride them better than any creature alive. I teach them how to appropriately armor them with leather and hide. I teach them how to sense the feelings of these steeds, to communicate with them to understand them. I teach them how to properly ready them for battle, how to train them to drop rocks and obstacles on foes. Again, before gracing their minds with this knowledge, I make them swear an oath to only use these steeds against outside forces, and never against their kin.
I am pleased with my new 'soldiers'. Better than my intelligent griffins. I decide to name my form of unarmed combat 'Ivisei', or way of Ivi. For my griffin-riders, I name them 'Valkyries', or 'Griffin-Tamers'.
