Written by the brilliant Jon Negroni a while back, Negroni realized that all Disney-Pixar animated films are on a single timeline. While some holes are open and leave some questions unanswered, it explains why various things have come to exist, such as talking automobiles and toys, and even monsters. If you have the urge to look at it in detail, you can find Negroni's findings and his blog about all things D-P here.

With that being said, click the link and read it, since none of this will make sense to a person who doesn't understand the concept of the Pixar Theory.

Moving on. Now it has been stated that the Monsters travel back in time to collect the screams (or laughter) of children in order to supply for the energy crisis. But just where do they go? Is each door made to move to a specific date or are all doors made to enter at a certain point in time? Allow me to show you my findings.

In Toy Story 3, we see a scene where children are playing in the room with toys. Hearing very closely, we see none other than Boo, the revolving character of Monsters, Inc. Though it isn't proven, we can hear her say "Boo, boo, boo!" and "It doesn't matter." as she plays with her blue "Kitty", or as we know it, Sully. This points that the doors take them to a period of time between Toy Story 2 and 3. I want to know if there are anything in any of the movies, maybe one of the scares/funnies showing a character similar to a young Andy, or in Toy Story if we see any cameos of the Monsters in the real world.

Couldn't those things just be, I'unno, Easter Eggs? I think maybe (as with a lot of fan-theories) you're just looking way too far into something.

Looking too far into it is half the fun.

The other half is coming up with the insane theory itself.

However, this theory makes way too many assumptions. In particular about how monsters came into being.

Somehow I remember all this sounding much, much more compelling the last time I read about it. This writeup (the link I mean) seems...... not the same as what I remember. Idunno. Last time I heard about the Pixar Theory or whatever, WALL-E had just come out, or maybe Cars or something, and everything sorta fit together without much reading-in.

I've heard a lot about this in Pixar films, but I hold onto the belief that they're all just a bunch of Easter eggs. Fun to search for and point out, yes (especially when you consider the fact that some Easter eggs reference films that didn't exist yet at the time of their release - like the hidden Nemo in Monster's Inc), but trying to pass this all off as one, big universe leaves way too many plotholes.

They're just a sign of the creators having fun with their work and giving the fans something fun to search for, as well. Even I enjoy that sort of thing - as on multiple occasions I'll be writing a roleplay post and see an opportunity to reference an older roleplay, and so I go for it. I'll do it even if not a single person in the current roleplay was in the old one or knows it exists, because I personally find it amusing, and it would be even more amusing if someone actually did spot the reference.

Is this me attempting to string together all my RP's into one, extended canon? No, it's just me having fun - and justifying all my RP's existing in the same universe would be near-impossible even if it was my intention.

I do this myself. However, I do do it as an "extended canon" for my characters. Their history. Though sometimes I'll create a "roleplay" that never existed, just to set them up for a new RP. Both are fun to do, for me.

You might wanna post that idea in the "interest checks" section. That's generally where roleplay idea pitches go.

You are most likely referring to Cracked's video that first brought this theory into the light. It was simpler and didn't cover all the movies.
