No, not stripping, you dumb florps.

I'm going to attempt to use my degree. I applied at a publishing company and Amazon.com (they have an office near me).

I am a grown up and it's dumb.

To you young kids here: Don't wish to grow up. Seriously. It sucks.

>.> I start a new thing on Monday to pilot the development of a new position, in which apparently I'm going to be basically in charge of working everything out since I'm perhaps the best at what I do.

I'm super giddy and nervous and kinda excited and hoping I don't fuck this up cause if I do well I'll be in charge of training and supervising the others who take on this position.

Long story short, I feel like a kid again about to go to a new school.

On another note, good luck working at that club. I'm proud of you, Rajah.

I've just graduated high school, and I'm already feeling the pressures of being an adult. You can't get a good job without going to college, and you can't go to college without having money, which you need a job (and one that pays more than minimum wage (impossible when you don't have a degree or prior job experience)) to afford without student loans, and when you do go the student loan path, you end up graduating with a degree that ends up costing more than it's worth.

Fuck that, I'd rather just stay a kid forever.

But more on topic, good luck with your job, man.

I give up. Also, congratulations, let us know how it goes! Being a grown up has certain benefits to compensate, I'm sure (like a comparatively massive paycheck, w00t.)

This. While we're sharing new job/school/opportunity times that make you feel suddenly much more adult, I got my exam results last week. Turns out that despite all the ridiculous drama/bullshit and last-minute revision situation that I can't remember if I told you guys about, I got my four "A"s and got into Imperial, the shmancy top-5-in-the-world university I was unattractively bragging about/mentioning (depending on your viewpoint) a while back.
So yeah, it's sorta hit me suddenly that I'm moving 600 miles away and starting my life anew, soon, and it's fucking awesome. If I'd screwed up as hard as I expected I had, I would've been living at home for at least another year, if not longer.

My current fear, having gotten into a uni in England instead of fucking up and getting into my backup uni, which is in Scotland and would have meant getting free tuition. Hello, £60000 of debt at age 22. :D :D :D

Disregard the neigh sayers saying growing up sucks. It's fantastic. Making your own decisions and not having to answer to anyone but your own responsibilities is empowering. You find a job you like and get compensated well for it and you're laughing, you aren't trapped with climbing student loans and you can start to afford to live life the way you want to. You aren't trapped under your parents' roof and rules, you do things how you want. Your success and failure is entirely your doing.

Sure, it sucks if you're in a minimum wage job trying to make ends meet (trust me, I was there for years and it's terrifying), but this mainly applies to when you start getting on a career path where you aren't worried about living week to week and you can start to live comfortably.

I'm 26 years old and being an adult is fucking awesome.

Yeah, I suppose you're right.

I'm moving into an apartment, I've been "officially" moved out of my parents' home for three years now, I'm 90% self-sufficient, and climbing my way into better jobs. I'm looking forward to being able to tackle debt and loan payments, and start setting aside money for retirement, emergency stuff, etc, instead of scraping together enough change for monthly payments and groceries.

So being an adult is only awesome if you don't have student loans? I'm just gonna listen to the nay-sayers then, and prepare for the gradual death of my soul in a heat-death-of-the-universe, deflating-souffle sorta fashion.

All this talk of being an adult makes me happy my part-time job is just for beer money and I can blissfully ignore my future until senior year.

Trade school. Earn a living with your hands.

Or, earn a living with your hands like I do.

Trust me, you'll get to a good place sooner than you think. :) It's a tough climb at first, but it's a part of learning and getting where you need to be. The only people who didn't struggle immediately after school (financially, at least) came from rich families. I worked for like six years at all sorts of low-end jobs that barely put food on my table, gassed up my car, and paid the rent but it was rewarding at the end of the day because I was standing on my own, and really, there's something incredibly satisfying about not relying on anybody to survive.

Don't lose hope! After all, all those middle-aged people with the big fancy houses and RVs weren't just magically endowed with their awesome shit. They did eventually get the means to afford them. Just think of it like tires spinning until you get traction, sometimes things catch when you least expect it.

I know you'll do well!

Because of a sudden bout of "what the fuck am I going to do with my life" coming on last year, I took a break from school.

Just signed on for another 6 years of army. Going to do that until things make sense again.

I thought we were sharing....

Update: Landed an interview with Amazon.

Best part of Amazon is that they have a fantastic relocation program. I can start working where I am, and then eventually if I stick with it, and decide to move somewhere nicer, they'd help me out. :333
