Skills:
Growing up in a family with three brothers skewed Lucy's tastes to those not typically associated with little girls. She always preferred boxing to doing her nails, and for her sixth birthday she asked for an air rifle instead of a doll. As such Lucy is just as comfortable with firearms, or in a full blown fist fight as any man. Nine times out of ten she is more comfortable.
Years of police training, then a tutorship under Pariah, has made her an accomplished martial artist, skilled in several different disciplines, as well as an excellent marks-woman, field medic, strategist, covert operative and an expert in the fields of explosive ordnance and reconnaissance.
Lucy's greatest asset, and perhaps her most deadly weapon, is her mind. She was a top student in school, despite having very little personal time between juggling a job and helping her mother look after her home. She always love games of cunning and logic, such as chess. Now she utilizes that in her vigilante career, her out of the box thinking allowing her to even the playing field between her and super-powered crooks. She also has a great aptitude for deductive thinking, making her an incredible investigator.
She has long had an interest in psychology, specifically on the behavioural psychology. Though it is strictly a self taught skill she has displayed the ability to read a persons emotions and thoughts through subtle physical cues.
Equipment/Resources:
Morningstar's suit features the same special synthetic plates that can be found in Pariah's, which give her limited protection from bullets, melee weapons, explosive force and more. Morningstar's suit typically features lighter armouring than her former mentor, as Lucy is less a grounded and more acrobatic fighter who is less willing to go blow to blow with her foes. The strong fabric in the suit’s gloves assist her while climbing and the gauntlet features a grappling hook and micro-motor that fires high-tension cables.
Her mask is specially designed by Lucy with help from Savant. Included in the mask is a built-in radio transmitter/receiver and night-vision lenses. It has a computer link and analysis. The lens can zoom and magnify her vision. It also has electromagnetic vision, which includes thermal, sonar, and x-ray vision. She also wears ear dampeners in defence against sonic attacks, and a built in filtration system protects her from any airborne chemicals.
As for weapons Morningstar will change her load out depending on what the mission entails. His primary weapon is the 'Trident' a unique pistol she designed with the help of Savant. The Trident can be loaded with several different round types, amongst them tasers, knockout gas, tranqs and sticky cams. To support the Trident she will use conventional firearms. Usually she carries a variety of throwing stars, smoke grenades, flash bangs, and frags. The knuckles on her gauntlets are heavily armoured, negating the need for close combat weaponry, but she does carry a collapsible nightstick which she wields with great efficiency.
Weaknesses:
Under the suit she is just a woman, and bleeds as much as any other. Her family is her true blind spot however.
Psychological Profile:
Lucy is first and foremost an adventurer at heart. Though she does what she does because she feels she is in a position to help those that cannot help themselves the fact that she derives enjoyment from her 'work' helps keep her fighting the good fight.
She tries to keep herself grounded, but is aware that she can lapse into obsessiveness when it comes to hunting down particular foes.
She wrestles with the fact that she was is only a man in a world that has essentially made her obsolete. She can come off as hostile to genuine super humans, often due to jealousy.
Lucy is at heart an optimist, often seeing the best in people instinctively. However Pariah has instilled in her a healthy dose of paranoia for the intentions of others. For a long time Morningstar has tried to imitate her mentor's reserved style in dealing with others, until Pariah pointed out she was a romantic masquerading as a cynic. Lucy has since accepted who she is, but has adopted the moto 'hope for the best, prepare for the worst' for when dealing with others.
Biography:
The world's used to heroes, I mean it would have to be by this stage, right? We've got honest to goodness Jedi-Knights, Zenith playing catch with meteors and just the other day a guy in Paris was robbed by a talking gorilla. But in all this craziness, amongst all these modern day Gods, there's one kid who's trying to prove men still have their place in this weird, unstable world. Her name is Lucy, but you probably know her as Morningstar.
Nothing about her screamed 'exceptional' when she was born, or at least not as far as she's aware. She was the only girl born in a family with four kids, and you can imagine what that meant for her. Her brothers were rough growing up, and that just spurred her own to be even rougher. Her father, a New York cop, always said he loved all his kids equally, but anyone who knew him could tell he favoured Lucy, his little hell raiser. Lucy's mother feigned exasperation, saying she wanted a daughter but only got another son, but in truth she was as happy as her husband. All in all, life was good.
Up until Lucy's father was shot on the job in a mob hit. It was a terrible blow for the family, but what came next was worse. It came to light that officer Andreano had been dirty, being in bed with Gambino family, the same one's suspected of ordering the hit that had killed him. Though the circumstances surrounding officer Andreano's death wouldn't be revealed for years, the effect it would have on his family would be instantaneous and lasting. The Andreano's were largely shunned by one and all, with Lucy's mother being forced to take on several dead end jobs to meet ends meet. A hard life for her children, but they all pitched in however they could. The oldest son, Frank, joined the army at age sixteen all just to take the burden off his mother. Lucy and her next oldest brother both got part time jobs to help with the rent.
Lucy worked hard until she turned seventeen and a half, whereupon she applied to joining the NYPD. While many scoffed at her, being the daughter of a dirty cop, she aced the exams and was made an officer. What followed was several years of exemplary work, culminating in one of the biggest, and most emotional cases of her life.
While her fathers murder case had technically been shut citing lack of evidence, Lucy began to follow up old leads in her spare time. While doing this she earned the attention of the Gambino family, who sent a representative to try and talk her off a trail that could only end in her downfall. They sent her Marco, her second eldest brother. Marco had been secretly working for the Gambino's for years, usually performing muscle-work, but was slowly climbing his way up the ladder. This was his chance to prove he was capable to taken on more responsibilities within the family. Lucy was shocked that her brother could work with the same people who had killed their father, but Marco was quick to point out that their father was the first to work for the Gambino's. An ultimatum was laid down, stating that if Lucy didn't desist in her investigations then it would end badly. While shaken, Lucy knew that she must be getting close to the truth if she had warranted direct intervention. Her next move was to approach her superiors with the information she had uncovered.
The response she got was unexpected though, as Lucy was warned of the case and told to backdown. It didn't take a genius to figure out that Lucy's bosses were on the take as well, and it was then that everything fell into place. Lucy's father hadn't been dirty, or at least not quite as dirty as every made him out to be. He had been used as a scapegoat for a corrupt department, and had then been killed to ensure his silence. Knowing that she couldn't take on the Gambino's and prove her fathers innocence on her own, but no longer having the backing of the full NYPD, Lucy enlisted the help of her eldest brother Frank, recently returned from a tour of duty with the army, and her youngest brother Inrique, who had recently joined the NYPD himself. Together the three siblings managed to bring down Marco, hoping he would be the lynchpin that would bring the whole dirty operation down. Unfortuanatly the power of the Gambino's lawyers prove to much, especially when Marco willing accepted guilt for all the crimes laid at his feet, effectively taking a fall for the Gambinos. Frank returned to the military shortly after this, while both Lucy and Inrique were promoted for their work. (It should be noted that while publically lauded by her superiors, Lucy had made it on many of the higher ranking officers shit-list after this, by putting a sweet deal they had with the Gambino's at risk.)
After this Lucy joins the SWAT team. While a skilled detective she felt she had burnt to many bridges in that particular avenue, feeling it was time for a change of pace. She took to the training with gusto, proving her self a exemplarly operative. It was during this time that her team was called in to subdue a dangerous killer and rapist dubbed Chameleon, a superhuman who could alter his appearance at a whim. He had used this power to trick women into sleeping with him, usually taking the form of their husbands or partners, then killing them. Chameleon had been cornered by two NYPD officers, holing up in a office building while in possesion of a shotgun. Lucys team entered the building, but Chameleon managed to get the drop on them by changing his appearance and pretending he was a innocent bystander. In the ensueing struggle Lucy shot and killed him. She was cleared of charges because it was self defence, but as fate would have it Chameleon was revealed to be the son of the police Commishenor. After already angering the higher-ups with her stunts during the Gambino debacle Lucy was sure her days with the force were numbered, and sure enough she was forced out soon after that, her superior citing conduct that didn't befit and officer as the reason.
Lucy, never one to surreneder herself to grief, decided to take fate in her own hands. After seeing the recent rise of the 'Super-Hero' she decided to become one herself. Her favourite of the bunch was a man named Pariah, because he was just that, a man. No powers, no god like ability, nothing but training and drive, or at least thats how Lucy imagined him. She donned a costume and took to the streets, thinking her training would do her well. However she quickly came to realise that fighting villains with a team of other highly trained SWAT officers was different from doing it on your own. She could have conceivably been killed, if not for her hero, Pariah, intervening. Lucy managed to convince the dark avenger to take her under her wing, and so she became his first student.
Two years pass and Lucy takes on all the knowledge Pariah has to teach her with gusto. It seems a partnership made in heaven, that is until the Abattoir case. While no one save the involved parties can be sure what went down between them during this trying time it seems it was enough to drive a wedge between the mentor and pupil. After this Lucy took up crimefighting on her own, calling herself the Morningstar. She has recently been recruited to the League.
