United Nations Secretariat
June, 1953
A message to all parties of the Korean conflicts:

The United Nations Secretariat, on the urging of several nations, proposes an armistice for cessation of the Korean conflict. The Secretary General calls for immediate dialogues between the United Nations Command (UNC), the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army (PVA) and the North Korean People’s Army (KPA). The Secretariat recommends cease-fire in the city of Kaesong in order for negotiations to commence on the following conditions of Armistice.

  • Immediate cessation of all hostile activities from all parties of the conflict.

  • The establishment of a demilitarized zone (DMZ) as a de facto border between the two states of Korea along the

  • Withdraw of all occupation forces from the opposing nation’s territory as defined by the DMZ.

  • Repatriation of all prisoners of war (POW) under the supervision of four neutral nations, two nominated by each side of the conflict.

  • No new weapons shall be introduced by foreign nations onto the Korean peninsula.

  • Efforts by high level leaders of all sides to start negotiations for a permanent peace treaty.

Nation: Syrian Republic
Time: 13:50
________________________________________

Communications:

- Adib Shishakli seeks assurances from Israel that it will not take advantage of an impending Syrian demobilisation.

Overt actions:

Adib Announces Return of Democracy

- Adib Shishakli has announced the return of civilian rule, and has legalized all formerly banned political parties, including the Ba’ath Party, the Muslim Brotherhood, the Syrian Nationalist Party and the Syrian Communist Party.

- He has asked the newly legalized political parties to join him in forging a new constitution for Syria, and promises elections to be held three months following an agreement.

- This move was largely unexpected, and many commentators are nervous that the suddenness of Adib’s actions could return Syria to political instability. Time will tell whether or not the Ba’athists, Communists and Nationalists take up this offer, or whether they choose to boycott the event altogether.

Syrian Army to Demobilise

- The Syrian army stands at an estimated 250,000 combat troops, most of whom are considered to belong to tribal militias.

- The cost of funding this disproportionately large force is crippling the Syrian economy, prompting Adib Shishakli to order the demobilisation.

- It is expected that with the militias disbanded, and the reserve army divisions ordered to stand down, the Syrian armed forces will sit at approximately 50,000.

- Adib is seeking assurances Israel will not attempt to launch an attack on the Golan Heights following this demobilisation.

THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF THE NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES

The strong and consistent decline in violence by the seperatists in the East Indies is a trend that shows no sign of stopping. The Kingdom lauds these developments, which show to the world, and the Soviet Empire in particular, that the Indonesian people the TNI claims to represent owe their allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, and not to a clique of collaborators. With these developments come the lifting of measures, between increased military presence and martial law, and the demobilisation of units. Once again, we send an offer of amnesty to all fighters of the TNI. Come out, wherever in this beautiful land you are hiding, and surrender your weapons to the Army. You will be treated honourably and then sent back to your family. Your fight has been in vain since the beginning. With the cessation of violence it will be possible for Indonesia to develop and gain an autonomous status for Java and Sumatra too.

We would also like to announce that the plans for granting autonomy to the various states of Indonesia have been finalised and shall begin in 1955. Indonesia is too large and too diverse to responsibly administer as one unit, and as such the following countries have been made and shall be federal states under "Indonesia".

Java: The islands of Java, Madura, Pulau Paliat and Pulau Saubi.
Sumatra: The island of Sumatra, the Riau islands, Bangka, Belitung, and the Nias islands.
East Indonesia: The Lesser Sunda islands and Celebes.
The Moluccas
Borneo
New Guinea

East Indonesia, The Moluccas, Borneo and New Guinea are currently in a position to be reformed and prepared for its autonomous status under the East Indies, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. However, security concerns prevent Java and Sumatra from being subject to these reforms. However it is our intention to do this as soon as the situation allows it. The time that the colonies existed for the motherland is over, and the old line of the Mission to Civilise will no longer be an empty phrase used to excuse colonialism. It shall be our task to guide your development into success, so that the countries of Indonesia may become autonomous parts of the Kingdom.

United States Ambassador to the United Nations

Whilst it would be most desirable to end the conflict in the Korean peninsula, it is the opinion of the United States of America that the armistice offered by the United Nations Secretariat is not a viable solution for the long term. It can only be seen as a temporary measure that will allow the false regime in Pyongyang to bide its time and 'lick its wounds', whilst the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and People's Republic of China inject it with money and arm it. Thus it is obvious that the only solution to this conflict will be the total eradication of the plague of communism from the Korean peninsula and the restoration of a united Korean nation following the principles of freedom and democracy.

As a further measure, I would like to call on and plead with the nations of the free world to do what is right. To step forward and aid the United States in its battle against Communism and its evil perpetrators.

Soviet Ambassador to the United Nations

While it is surely desirable for all parties in the Korean conflict to cease hostilities, this is unfortunately an impossibility in the long term. For far too long the United States of America has been attempting to display dominance over the region. The people of Korea have chosen their own path free from exploitation and imperialism, a move that must be respected by all the world's nations. It is worrying to us that the United States will continue to undermine this, thus we ask on all the world's nations to do the right thing and defend Korean sovereignty.

In short we ask all nations of the world to condemn the puppet regime of Seoul and defend the sovereignty of the Korean people who strive to be slaves to no foreign power. This conflict can end once all foreign troops are withdrawn from Korean soil, but as a precautionary measure this is an action that cannot be taken by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics until the United States of America complies with our requests.
