I can't accept the whole mirror thing. I don't see how it would work, having one character not even be physically there for a ritual that you kinda need to be there for. It is physically impossible. Miroir...Mirror....MIRROR MIRROR ON THE SANDWICH, WHO IS THE FAIREST OF THEM A-FUCK YOU.

I am dropping background, so I guess I need to make a new character. great.

Well you didn't exactly explain the ceremony. How were we supposed to know? Furthermore, could you explain how and why it wouldn't work?

Nowhere in the opening did it describe the ritual as having a physical element only that it bonds two people and the stuff it gives from the bond

He brings up a good point. As does Jerk. There was nothing stating that the individuals both had to be physically present. And, they definitely fulfill the emotional connection, with the power of love.

I think it's pretty implicit that you'd need to be there. I mean if you just did a ritual with one person then how would it link the other person..

No it isn't

Prior to the reveal for all we know the ritual could be burning magic incense and some sort of calligraphy writing binding the people together. Or some other equally mystical sounding and esoteric ritual steps that bind the pairing

I think my first RP post kind of displayed how the bond ritual would work out.
I, however think it's much more suitable for the bonding ceremony to appear on station, mainly because it'd be harder to communicate with people who aren't actually on station, and I'd only imagine mirrors to be in limited supply during these times.

I was under the impression it was a personalized thing, unique to each pair. Perhaps if the GM explained why this wouldn't work we could fix this.

He did say that there was a ritual site where it would all happen, and the bond would only logically be made on said ritual site.
Of course you can customize it, but the general gist remains the same, if what I said prior is true.

Holy unwarranted self-importance batman!

You're not the GM and as such your ritual description outside of being retroactively "Correct" by the Gm's sudden information has no bearing on how it functions.

I left the idea of a ritual pretty plain, but that was really all I wanted to do, cuz I don't think that the ritual has any real importance other than being what makes you a pair. I based it on my own personal description of magic rituals, but not everyone thinks the same way, obviously. The ritual was a pair of circles of magical symbols drawn on the ground, interlocked in the center. These glowed blue, obviously. Each person would stand in the circle, and then after some magic stuff, a sort of chant/spell/incantation would come to the pair, and they would say this, and then BOOM your done, or die horribly. Luckily, those deaths are delayed.

I just don't know how a pair where one of them can't be heard or touched would work, even if you disregard the ritual, it seems sad...and..well boring. I mean, one person gets "Hey, my partner can only be seen through shiny surfaces, though I don't know what she's saying." and the other gets "Hey, You can't hear me... I am bored now." The mage gets no ability to do anything within the real world, because they are simply an observer. Obviously, a school for MAGES and Knights would not allow a pair that can't function fully to be in the school. If you have something else to say to try and convince me to accept the character when I am not half asleep, go ahead and throw it at me.

I just want to brow beat a mage into submission and then take my darling Lowkey's character off to the dorm to show her just how good life with Emily can be.

Okay, first point: If the ritual is a plot device, why are you using it to create arbitrary distinctions on what can and cannot happen?
Second: She's a mime. As in, does not talk and communicates entirely via visual gestures. Not being heard isn't really an issue since I'd be doing that anyway.
Third: The bond is stated to act as a telepathic link.
Fourth: I am choosing to play this character, and thus you can assume I have picked a character I will enjoy playing.
Finally: Not everything has to directly involve combat. She could, for example, act as a very capable scout or instructor. Try thinking of roles that don't involve brute force (though if having a noncombat character bothers you that much she can, I dunno, shoot lasers by superheating reflective surfaces or something.)

Yeah I was gonna say something along the lines of what he said. Especially the fact that the bond pair has a mind link which lets them communicate also despite being trapped she's not deaf to our world. However for communicating it's pretty simple he can talk for two or she can just you know user her chalkboard and any nearby reflective surface to answer stuff. Or more dramatically like use the fire magic for some sort of golem or avatar.

And for teamwork usages outside what was mentioned is she can be like a glorified HUD/ mission control given my dude's armor is shiny meaning she can be literally be another set of eyes and ears.

Also I like the pairing it gives a nice little heroic pathos and plot hook. Since there's a knight in shining armor and a damsel in need of rescuing.

Acting as a scout when you're limited to seeing through mirrors is not really ideal because the spectrum of which you can see is limited greatly.
Also: On my previous post I was doing nothing but assuming, speaking my mind of the situation, I never said that what I said was absolute.

You seem to not realize she isn't literally confined to mirrors and that it explicitly says any reflective surface will do. And the mirror is being used because writing reflective surfaces isn't as sexy.

Look, if this is an issue, we'll say she can emerge up to about her navel from reflective surfaces kind of like that chick in The Ring, okay? That pretty much solves all our major problems. Gives some minor utility outside scouting.
Sound good?
