Nephriel said This story is loosely based on the book/tv series called 'Bitten'. In this story, werewolves are actually pretty rare as it's extremely hard on the body to survive the first Change, and even more difficult if you have been bitten. Our main group are a bunch of Nomadic Mutts who consider themselve's thier own pack. They have stayed out of trouble for years until recently... Someone is following them, leaving half eaten bodies behind and now the Pack is hot on their tails because they believe the Nomads are responsible... Now, the Nomads have to prove their innocence or they might be faced with an all out war with the pack... An outcome that no one wants...
Mutts - Nonpack werewolves who own no territories. Most mutts are mutts because they disagree with the way the Pack rules. There are laws in place for a reason but the mutts feel they are either above them or an exception to the rule. Other mutts are what they are because they don't feel like settling down, they follow the rules and keep a low profile and most times the Pack leaves them alone.
Pack - Wolves who fall under the Head Alpha's rule. Each territory, usually a couple states wide, has it's own Pack Leader who is also referred to as an Alpha. These Alphas form the council that reports to the Head Alpha once a year. Though it is possible for an Alpha or a Head Alpha to name a successor they usually aren't well accepted until they prove themselves. Any Alpha can be challenged for the title at any time by any member of the Pack, a Head Alpha can only be challenged by another Alpha. If a Mutt tries to challenge an Alpha they are usually taken care of by the Beta, the Enforcer of the pack. Only an Alpha can accept possible new members into the Pack, these guys are the Omegas, and at the end of their first year with the Pack they have to be taken to the Head Alpha for a final yes or no.
Betas- The enforcers to each pack. They take care of any threats and make sure the rules are followed. When the Alpha is out of commission for any reason, the Beta takes charge.
Omegas - New possible members to the pack. They eat last, they run the errands, are often picked on and given a hard time. They have to prove themselves worthy before they can rise from the rank of Omega and actually become part of the pack.
Female Werewolves- Even more rare than their male counterparts as they are born carrier's of the virus, with it lying dormant in their systems. For this reason puberty doesn't trigger the virus like it does in a male werewolf, they have to be bitten... This is the reason that it was only recently discovered that a woman could be changed at all or even that they carried the virus. It had been assumed that women were born completely human and for that reason the female child of a werewolf was often abandoned to her mother whereas a male child would be taken away with the father. The purpose of this was to keep the human mother from discovering what the father and son were, keeping the werewolf existance a secret. Unfortunately, a human woman without a werewolf parent will never make it through the Change because their bodies can't take the strain... even physically fit and perfectly healthy men have died from it. Lately, some of the werewolf fathers have been considering going back for their daughters now that the truth is known.
Change - Werewolves can Change at will until the full moon when they are forced to change whether they like it or not. The Change is agonizing but once the pain is done the endorphins and adrenaline that flood you make the experience worth it. The longer you wait between Changes the longer it takes to get through the process and the more painful it is... Werewolves have to eat a lot to keep their energy up, if they are tired or too distracted or haven't changed enough the Change could start and stop and take upwards of an hour instead of just five minutes.
Ijiraat - Shape-shifters that can't fully change from human to wolf and are instead stuck somewhere in between. They are as big as black bears and as strong as them as well. They live in the wilds of Alaska and are even more rare than Werewolves. As they are fewer in number they all live together and have never warred among themselves... Therefore, they are more familiar with ancient lore than the werewolves whose texts and scrolls have been burned by other packs more times than can be counted. It is because of them that the wolves found out the truth of female werewolves. They want to be left alone but seem to respect the werewolves as superior beings despite the fact that they are stronger.
There are other beings out there as well... Will-o-whisps, witches, and demons of different sorts... After we have a couple werewolves I'll think about possibly accepting other things.
