Racks of melee weapons line the walls, filled with implements ranging from simple staves to hand axes to multiple varieties of sword. Almost every conventional melee weapon is represented, allowing the fighters to pick their preference and utilize their specific weapons of choice.

David Smith stood bare-chested in the center of the room, stance relaxed and feet shoulder width apart as he waited for the arrival of his pupil. His hands hung loose at his sides, wrapped nearly to the elbow in order to protect him from the force of his own blows. His feet were similarly protected, and the pants he wore were loose and well-suited to the demands of combat. With his torso bare, a keen eye might be able to detect the hair-thin scars that criss-crossed his skin, and it was plainly evident that despite his slender frame his taught musculature still possessed a formidable strength.

"Well aren't you eager. I like that."

David simply watched his opponent approach, then stepped back until he was standing on the far side of one of the squares laid out on the floor. He raised a hand to gesture for the Arab to take the opposite position, and waited for him to do so before continuing.

"First, let's see what you already know. Attack when ready."

It wasn't the attack he would have chosen, in all honesty. If it had been just a kick or just a punch, it would have been at least marginally useful, but attempting both at the same time simply left him off balance and unable to put much power behind either attack. The kick was clearly a feint from the get-go, he didn't use his hips to build power and the body language spoke of a second attack, so when the fist came in toward his face he was ready.

His own left hand came up as his right leg stepped forward, catching the underpowered kick on the outside of his thigh instead of his knee as he halted the off-balance punch with a harsh palm-strike to the oncoming fist, countering the force of the blow. As he did this, his right hand came up and aimed another palm strike at the center of his opponent's chest, and he shifted his center of gravity lower, pushing his right knee out and behind the other man's left leg before it could recover from the kick. The palm strike to his chest, combined with the knee behind his left leg preventing it from returning to sure footing (and the already imbalanced nature of the initial attack), would make it extremely difficult to avoid complete loss of balance. All in all, the counter should be more than enough to leave the Arab sprawled out on his back.

"Not the best choice of opening moves. If you're intent on launching a two-pronged attack, do not give up your balance to do so. Sure footing will get you farther than any amount of off-balance offensives. Offensives that are almost always very easily countered."

"Very well."

David stalked forward, one foot crossing in front of the other until he was within striking range of his opponent. Once there, right foot forward and arms raised in a kick-boxer's stance, he launched a straight jab at Ahmad's left cheek. No need to get overly complicated.

The rightward lean would rob the counter punch of momentum as Ahmad narrowly avoided the jab, making the counter to the hook a fairly simple matter of blocking with his left forearm. As he did, he stepped forward with his left foot, hooking it behind Ahmad's leading right foot, then driving his palm at the center of the other man's chest once again. With his right foot obstructed by David's left, the result should be remarkably similar to the end of Ahmad's initial assault, if not identical.

Ah, the bullrush. A tactic of desperation if ever there was one. Even before the slide became obvious, David began moving to his right, preparing to sidestep the rush and use the man's momentum against him. When it turned out he was sliding instead of a more conventional attack, David's right foot was already out of harms way and a simple sliding of his left foot removed it from danger as well. As the man's momentum carried him closer, David stepped forward with his right foot and dropped to his left knee, driving his left fist straight down toward Ahmad's stomach, allowing both gravity and his own muscles to power the blow.
