You're thinking of the gifts as just an excuse to be a super hero and kill shit. My intentions of the gifts were that they were used on both sides to help win the war. Offensive and defensive. They don't have to be over powered either. The original six gods would be extremely OP then if you think about it, and the rest would just die instantly. Its not for how long they have the power, its how they use it, and who they use it for.
My character has the gift of strength and will power. He isn't going to turn in to super man and just lift up a building. He's going to maybe get a small burst of strength to push through a line of Fusos' men, or to maybe to move something a little bit in order for the people to escape. His will power will be more for negotiating, and politics, and all that. So no, I don't think your guy needs to have the power to turn people to gold just so you can have an offensive and very powerful gift. I like Robyn's idea for it, and a few have given you ideas on what you can do with the gift
You can use your gift to use it more for luring people to join your side, like talking about their true desires and having wealth to pay them. You can maybe turn nonbiological items in to valuables so you always have that constant wealth with you.
but its your character man. If you think he should have a power, and you post something, I'll tell you to change it just a bit. I want you to have fun, and everyone else! I dont' want to be the mean GM that takes away that fun and imagination hahaha
