I was curious about the styles and genres of the RP's being made at the moment. They are not as dark or gritty as I personally like (I rather like Gears of War style worlds). Then it got me thinking...

What stories are popular?

It's as simple as that to be frank. I like to build stories but would like to make something to draw in more roleplayers. So what interests people these days? Does the mature Game of thrones style still go around here with passionate romance and shocking betrayal? Or are we more for the Anime style Host Club?

Myself I prefer dark, gritty mature fantasy/sci fi themes with both a passionate romance and a dark action theme. The closest example would perhaps be Mass Effect 2 or Game of Thrones? Even then I am not happy with the whole design but they should help build a style. But what about the rest of you?

Interesting. Any reason against Sci Fi or just not a fan? I grew up around it so it's sort of my semi favourite style.

Just not interested enough to play it, I think. I like sci-fi books and movies, but don't like playing it out personally. I really enjoy medieval, though.

I have to admit my own mood swings between the two like some kind of pendulum. If I can't be bothered with space ships its knights all the way!
