Excellent. We've let him know. He'll come by later on, after we finish a collab with him in another RP.

We'll add some ruins later on. It'll take a while to construct.

You don't have to make them looks perfect, or even map them.

I was thinking a lot of ominous statues would be involved, and don't think you can put those down easily.

Statues is much harder yes. Especially with our liking of near-perfection. Besides, a thousand years of wear and tear would reduce most statues to rubble. Provided they aren't behemoths and/or imbued preservative magics. If their fortresses did not survive the ages as more than foundations, no way mere decorations would have survived.

Point taken.

A mild counter-point, it was less weathering and more warfare that eroded their fortress. After several take overs most of the original stone work was destroyed. In most cases in which they weren't constructed under severe conditions, however, Old Kingdom stonework was preternaturally resilient. A lake forming over it, though, would be effective weathering.

What if there was an unknown Old Kingdom city/town in the depths of the Lake? Some kind of Relic-related or magic-related or whatever else the Relics run on end up weakening the ground below the city, which created a large, uneven crater that filled up with water, whether from weather or more Relic-related incidents.

Just a suggestion.

[Just thinking along here if you guys don't mind]
What's the soil Othea or more specifically Amaryth like? Peat or moor for example is known to preserve even bodies in a great state, although it's rather hard to build on it except if you know how to (I'm sure the Orogassi who constructed the fort and the people of The Old Kingdom knew). However, those kinds of soils are really climate-bound so I'm not sure if it'd fit into the geography (Ellri, facts please lol). But a lake bottom (partially) of moor could perhaps explain why the ruins have been preserved in such a good state for so long, yet making it impossible to properly build a really large harbour.

Well, given the shape of the lake, a single crater doesn't make sense to be the source of the entire lake. But it could be feasible that an explosion could be involved. But we see one pretty major issue with the crater idea... The larger a crater, the more force involved. Since there aren't all that many large craters on Earth not involving meteorite strikes, we'll use some rough numbers from that. a 50m meteorite striking down has created a crater 1200m in diameter. Given that the rounder sections of the lake, estimated from the map, are at least ten times that diameter, the energy involved in the explosion would be enough for major climate change, if not a full-blown extinction event.

Mind you, that could be the event that broke the Old Kingdom. Essentially what we're saying here is that an explosion of that magnitude is massive.

Just estimating using a Crater output calculator we found, a crater about 12 km in diameter, based on dense rock striking porous rock at 72 degrees, would have an energy of 3470 megatons. The biggest detonated nuclear bomb (Tsar Bomba) was about 50 megatons. In other words, the forces involved in a crater anywhere close to 20km in diameter are almost unimaginable.

EDIT: Muddy bottom isn't unlikely. As for climate, look to Sparks.

I think Othea would be cool and damp. Since the lake doesn't have any major rivers flowing out from it to handle the incoming water which runs down from the mountains, we have to assume that it floods often. That would create a very damp, boggy environment on the west and north sides of the lake, which is why the city of Amaryth is placed on higher ground to the south.

Would it be possible for an Old Kingdom city of Relics to be at the deepest area of the Amaryth Lake?

Well.

1-The King's Coronation happened

2-During the coronation the Kalesian Empire invaded the city and created a frightening vale of darkness.

3-Their anti-evoker troops had already infiltrated the city and were subduing evokers, or attempting to.

4-Their troops have penetrated the outer city, now the inner city is being prepared to defend against their armies.
