I'm dreadfully curious as to how one can look at a writing assignment for Korean grade-schoolers learning English as a 2nd language and think, "Spam game".

Like it's one thing to ask people what super-power they would want and defend it, but another to post up what seems to be the exact assignment instructions you would give to these kids, particularly encouraging "simple sentences".

Like, is no one else scratching their heads over this?

Kaga said particularly encouraging "simple sentences".

I'm actually the one who encouraged her to include that as a rule. I figured it'd make this more difficult for people to do. We're all... well I was going to say adults, but nope. We're all capable of doing more, but I like restrictions so I pushed for it.

I didn't see this much of a negative reaction coming from you lot.

Since when did Spam get too haughty to dumb themselves down for a game?

That's my new super power, the edit button. I change an action I've made in the past to get a better outcome! It's like time travel, only not as cool. I would use this to relive my life over and over if I get near death to change something way back when I was young. Until I get a super cool life. Or at least ones with tonnes of sex, or something. I don't know.

I usually debate myself between three particular powers, for various purposes. Though I know I can choose only one, I'll list the three of them, starting with my "first choice" and then continuing on.

This is the power that I truly wish I could have, though I fear I might end up losing sight of my original goals with it.

This is the ability that I would choose because it is the least likely to change me at a fundamental level, and is useful while not being obviously superhuman to others.

This is my "superhero power"; something I'd use if I actually had the intention of fighting evil in a fictional setting. (Note that in reality, I'd choose something far more overpowered, just because I honestly don't want to die. Or more importantly, feel pain.)

EDIT: Uhhh, I might have broken some rules. I can rewrite it for you if you want, though dumbing things down isn't my specialty.

Something I have always thought of was the power of smoke-manipulation. The power of this ability could range for a mediocre character to a very serious threat, but there can be many applications for the ability to control or generate smoke. The obvious one is creating a smoke-screen, limiting vision and making it difficult to breathe for any enemies. You could also use smoke to deliberately blind or choke a person, make signals/shapes, or just make people high. Some of the high-end powers I have thought up include teleportation and item generation. The teleport is rather restricted, if you see a column of smoke from your current position, you could evaporate into a cloud of smoke and appear from the column seen earlier. Item generation goes in the way that you would be able to craft something out of smoke, and it takes a semi-solid form. Think of robes or armor made out of smoke, that swirl and look all mysterious, or dual swords that leave smoke trails when swung.

I... I think we have a winner.

Which is something that surprised me with trying to do this. Dumbing things down can be oddly hard. My first attempts aren't in this thread even.

I've been mulling it over for years.

Also, I've been working on my own personal database of superpowers, so I've done a lot of reading on the subject.

The reason the simplicity thing is a rule is that is it easy to write like an adult and expand on a topic. It is hard to go back and pretend you are 8 or 9 and write in simple sentences and give all the information you want with out any flourishes. Thus it makes the game harder. I know you can write pages on your superpower, I want the short, sweet, and simple.

Additionally, this is not the 'exact' assignment we gave them. There's was like just a prompt "What would be your superpower wish? Write about what you would do with it." I made rules for you guys to make it more of a challenge. If you don't think it is fun, don't play.

Holmishire, age five. said I would want the ability to change how I look into other living things. I could use it to be old, or I could use it to be not old. I could make myself really hard to hurt, and stop myself from staying hurt, because I don't like to stay hurt. I could even become new people, and play with the kids I don't usually play with, because that would be fun. But I want it to work! I don't want to do biology class, so it has to know biology.

Does this work well?
