I've been thinking about getting a Final Fantasy game, but I don't know which one to get. Suggestions?

7, 8, and 10 were my personal favorites. Then again, I never really got into final fantasy until 7, so didn't grow up with the older generation.

Seven and Eight had awesome storylines imo, but that's because those were my childhood favorites and I have a soft spot for them because of such.

Also, Tactics was fun as fuck to play, as Walker helped me out with that one. I would never have gotten it if not for his insistence that I get the game, to the point to where he actually forced me to xD Thanks, man.

12 is also pretty good for the prospect of running around and killing enemies to get their loot to sell. It was an awesome concept to me because enemies dropped things like hides, etc, based upon what type of creature they were, and the more powerful the enemy, the more money their things sold for.

Look up youtube videos and you can decide which would look the best to you.

Also, many swear by 9, but it was too colorful for my tastes. It's got an excellent story though, for the most part.

Ultimately? Get them all. They're interesting RPG games, and make for a good collection.

Any of them up through FFX are decent at a minimum. After that shit gets iffy and often awful.

If you're looking for one of the 2D games, I'd suggest going for VI (the one marketed as III in the US and other places because reasons). The others are good too, that one is just my favorite of the 2D games.

If you want one of the 3D ones, eh, kind of a toss up. I'd say you can't really go wrong with anything from VII through X. VII and IX are my favorites from that group though, for what it's worth.

This. Grab Crisis Core and the Tactics, they're nice too. Even if Tactic is a bit grindfest.

I have kind of an unpopular opinion on this one, but my favorites were VIII, VI, XIII, and X. XII and IX both played fairly well. I really dislike VII and IV but I will never suggest that they shouldn't be played. Avoid all of the sequels.

I'm not one of those people who will go around and slap a "garbage" sticker on every copy of VII I see, but I think it just underwhelmed me, especially since it is the highly lauded commercial and critical darling of the franchise. I didn't care for the characters or the story, and that's what makes an RPG for me. The world was fine, gameplay was good, it featured a nice soundtrack, but I never really found myself having a lot of fun while playing it. VIII and VI always kept me interested, X was just fun, and XIII made me care about the characters and world even if the linearity really bugged others.

I can defend this.

As a Final Fantasy game? Kinda rubbish, as it deviated a lot from the tried and true franchise. If you just think of it as a JRPG and don't mind the fact that the first half of the game is very linear, I find the battle system, characters, world, and even the plot to be a whole lot of fun. It looks and sounds beautiful and always kept me busy. It has its critics, but I think it deserves credit.

They've all got their merits. FFX got an hd-makeover recently, so that's a pretty good choice. I loved 12, but lots of people thought the gambit system was too complex (8 had a similar problem with really-unnecessarily-complicated battle systems). If you can get into it though, they're both great games. 13 made me lose all hope in the series, is how much I hated that, so.... yeah..... but 7-10, 12, and Tactics are great.

Look, just because I took the script and beat you over the fucking head with it, does not mean I 'forced' you to buy the game...

I had so much fun with XIII-2. Lots of people seem to hate it, but I loved the story line. The battle system took a bit of getting used to and the story was different from usual, but still great. FFIII(The American version) was awesome. XII was ehh(The battle system was awkward.) But FFII will always have a place in my heart.
