So we were watching Classic Who together earlier tonight, and in-between episodes, she made some comment about the opening music. I don't remember what. But then I said, "You know, I heard that the original version of the Doctor Who theme was the very first song to consist entirely of electronic sounds." And she replied with, "So... Doctor Who is like dubstep's granddad?"

Because that's as good a note as any to start this thread off with.

(As stated in the main Henry thread, I decided to make this spin-off version so I can post up all her Doctor Who-related shenanigans without cluttering up the main thread with Whovian chatter, since I know that annoys some people. I plan to keep the main thread clear of it now, if that helps anyone who might've clicked on this thread just to complain about and/or question its existence.)

"So wait... if he's from the 51st century, how is his name 'Jack'? You'd think that by the 51st century people would be all like, 'Hey, let's name our kids weird things like 'Ireland' and 'Orange Jello'!'"

Isn't Ireland already a name people use?

The general idea is correct; even the oldest names we still use have changed in spelling and pronunciation since their inception.

For instance Henry would never have been considered a viable girl's name in the past and now it is.

Using the example of Henry again and goggling its origins, it apparently has its origins in the German name Heimirich (meaning home ruler) which then became spelled as Heinrich. The name was then exported over to France as Henricus (based on the Latin version of the meaning of Heimirich) and then shortened to Henri, at this point over a number of years it was exported to England where it eventually became Henry (and Harry apparently has its origins here to).

And that completely ignores the evolution of female variants of all the names above.

So over a number of centuries from around the 9th Century to the end of the Middle Ages , Heimirich became Henry/Harry. You'd imagine the difference between the 20th and 51st century would be even bigger in terms of names.

Yeah, I mean, her point was a valid one, and I hadn't thought of it before. I was just amused by her examples - Orange Jello in particular.

I suddenly find myself imagining Dr. Who with this as an intro.

In a galaxy somewhere is a TARDIS that looks just like that.

I love how it's already been pretty clearly established that she's not the best artist but no one tried to criticize her until she drew a TARDIS. Like, her Daleks didn't look quite right either but no one said anything because her scribbles were too adorable.

Also I should note - I'm pretty sure that's one of the first little drawings like that that she made for me. She gave that to me in class sometime during the first week or two of school, after she'd watched like one or two episodes of the Third Doctor and fell in love.

Well when she drew you your eyes were on your face and stuff, but the fact that the TARDIS says "Police Box" awkwardly on the side concerns me, it's as if she drew your with eyes on your elbows or something.

"Wait, so, if everyone turned into the Master... then what if you were in the middle of banging someone when that transformation happened? Would that still count as self-cest? Like, there are some big moral questions that come up when everyone is the Master."

@Names: Captain Orange Jello? XD
But if you watched Torchwood you'd learn that Captain Jack Harkness isn't his real name. He stole it as a cover from a Renowned Captain who was killed in the 20th century.
Plus remember he was a time agent before meeting the Doctor so he completely had the means to travel back there beforehand.

@Everyone is the Master: Would it also make everyone gay?

Oh. That would explain it. Neither of us have gotten around to watching Torchwood.

I like it, it puts a more serious/adult perspective on the Doctor Who Universe.
Basically, how dangerous something such as say a Cyberman really is when the Doctor isn't around to save the day.
So I'd recommend that any Whovian at least give it a shot.

Just note coming in that they do put a lot of focus on the other members of Torchwood too and it's not going to be a show focusing primarily around Captain Jack most of the time.

Oh, yeah, I've heard of the general gist before. It's not that I don't want to watch it. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Mostly because Classic Who is 26 seasons long.

So, earlier tonight, Henry and I were watching Classic Who. There was a scene where the Doctor and Sarah Jane separated to poke around an alien planet, and after Sarah got in trouble with the local aliens, Henry turned to me and exclaimed, "See?! This is why you use the buddy system!!"

I laughed so hard. XD
