Or is Lord of the Rings really hard to read? I had to read a chunk every couple of weeks just to get to the last chapter of the first book. I was able to speed through The Hobbit no problem, but the first book is really hard to get through. Anyone else feel like this? It may be because I have all of the LoTR books in one massive book, but I don't think so.

I've only read the Hobbit

Because I was forced to

Really don't care for Tolkien's style, so everything written by him is difficult to get through imo

This doesn't help you at all

His writing style is dry and historical linguistic... person dude. His field was dry and textbook. There's a reason he wrote things like the Silmarillion.

Two Towers and ROTK are each better than Fellowship. TT was actually pretty edge-of-the-seat-ish for 15-year-old me. I could never really get into Fellowship, but I ate the next two UP. Then I read Silmarillion, which was like...... I mean worth knowing, I guess, and some good stories in it, but christ it was drier than Leviticus.

He goes into detail for anything he can to provide information on any area he hadn't done so already prior to a scene. He's the lover of semicolons and parenthesis.
