I say crazy, because I see plenty of homeless street artists (where most art majors end up) and art requires at least some dedication and discipline.

Many of them are insane, yes, but not the street artists. They're just... street artists. Doesn't pay much money, ergo they're homeless.

Maybe they have been forced into to unfortunante circumstances that the wests current economic policy does not allow them to better their lives?

I would like to detract from this thread for a moment to express my love of your new set, idle. They always seem to get me on a deeply spiritual level.

As for street artists, they're probably living the dream, or constantly reminding themselves that there's a chance they can become a household name if they entertain the right person or end up the subject of an indie art documentary.

They're not all crazy. (Few groups are all anything.) Some are drug addicts, some extremely unlucky and too proud to do ask for help, others broken people, etc. There's plenty of Socio and Psych lit on that group of society if you really want to know the realities.

Seeing homeless people on the street, I want to tell them to their faces to get a fucking job, but I can't. All I seem to be able to do is give them this sad look when I pass by them.

I'm not an asshole to them, but I don't give them any compassion either. I feel like I'm looking into myself in the future, and it feels very emotionally paralyzing for me.

No. Sometimes they're just morbidly lazy, or not actually homeless at all. Rarely, they might even have become homeless from environmental factors out of their control, and happened to have had no one to turn to for help.

Mostly, though? Crazy, lazy or lying.
