Hey y'all.
I'm kinda new here in case you haven't noticed yet. I've joined because I believe this community can help me with my creativity. I have only been here a short while but I think I kinda get this place. Are there any technical aspects of this site that a noob such as myself needs to know? Technical aspects such as uploading pics for characters, what pics are acceptable to use, the general dos and donts of RPing etc? Your pearls of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to RPG! The technology part of this site isn't too difficult... Just make sure that when you post pictures or format text, use the QQcode cheatsheet that is under the post window. So for images, you would write img= and then the url of the image, and put that whole thing in brackets.
As for the do's and don'ts of RPing, that's mostly up to you. The one big rule is NEVER have "intimate interactions" in public threads, as there are many users on the site under the age of eighteen. There's no reason you can't do RPs with mature themes, just make sure that once "things" start to happen, you take it to private conversation.

Thanks for the help. It's greatly appreciated. One more thing. I've got a bit of an issue with double posting. I'm not sure if it's either my connection or this site. Most of the time when I submit a post the whole screen goes white and doesn't do anything. Whenever that happens I reload the screen. The page then proceeds to ask me if I want to submit the form again. Naturally I click yes which leads to my double posts. Does this happen to anyone else? If so how do I go about rectifying the problem?

Don't click resubmit form.

Edit: I'll be more helpful.

I think this is your connection as I do not have this issue. I think that when you resubmit your form you are resubmitting your post. The logical conclusion is that you should not click yes, as to avoid the double post. However I assume you are worried about your post not having been sent through and potentially losing your work.

So to be safe, like it says at the top of the page when submitting your post, copy your entire post to your clipboard before submitting. Another method is to just write out your posts in word or some other program. This way your work is stored elsewhere to avoid issues.

This way you can safely click 'no' on the resubmit form option, and if you find that the post did not send, you can try again easily.

Edit 2: It seems to be happening to many people actually. I haven't been around in a while, sorry about the confusion. However whenever it happens to me, this method works for me. Maybe it's different for different people.

So do I just wait for the screen to load or click back to the previous page and try again?

If you're stuck on the white page I would just refresh and click no. Of course do what I said above to be safe.

Thank you. As said I'm new to this whole thing. Also when it comes to joining a game is it better to join a game with less than 10 posts or a game with more than 10 posts; maybe even in the 50 to 150 post range?

Well it depends.

I know there are some ongoing roleplays that are constantly accepting members. In my opinion I like to join un-started or just starting roleplays as it gives you ample time to bond with your partners as well as to experience the Roleplay as it happens rather than jumping in and having to understand what has already happened and then trying to deal with establishing your character into the current cast without feeling left out.

Of course there are obvious disadvantages to consider. Unlike joining in-progress rp's, there is always that (very common) possibility that the RP may not get on it's feet after starting, if it even starts at all. Joining into an in-progress RP almost gurantees that you will be joining an RP that will last quite some time.

But really its up to you. The only limit on the amount of rp's you can join, is the one you set for yourself. You could try a mixture of both! Just experiment and go meet people. The best way to test the waters is by jumping in.

And I would recommend a cannonball or some other similarly spectacular entrance.

Thank you all for your help. For an entrance maybe I'll sky dive while on fire whilst a parade is being held in honour of my arrival. Too dramatic? I think not!
