Hello and welcome to The New Empires.

I'm not very good at introductions, so I'll keep this brief - New Empires is a player-driven fantasy set in a time period similiar to the Middle Ages. Instead of being handed a storyline players have to stick to, YOU get to write the lore, create the creatures and form the landscape to suit your nation and people.

There are a few things to discuss, like the availability of gunpowder and what is considered an 'acceptable' nation. As it stands, try to avoid anything too outrageous until everything has been decided. That means, sadly, for now there are no gunpowder weapons, no magic and no armies the size of Scotland.

Please feel free to ask questions. I'm also looking for a co-GM, if anyone's interested.

Nations should go here

1) Needs a map, or at least some way for players to have a rough idea of where everyone is.

2) Can sections of the NS skeleton be ommitted? A hefty portion of it isn't applicable to the species I have in mind.

1) I agree, but I was waiting for some more nations so that we could make a custom map. I could look for a pre-made one if you'd prefer.

2) Of course! If you don't have anything to say in that section, it's alright to leave it blank.

Also, Middle Ages and no gunpowder? Is this for balance reasons or for historical accuracy? If it's for historical reasons, gunpowder artillery during the Middle Ages was a thing.

Actually, depends on what era you're looking at when it comes to gunpowder weapons. Or region. True even in the early middle ages there was gunpowder, but that was purely a Chinese pursuit. Gunpowder in Europe and the Middle East wasn't a thing until the 13th century in some matter of use (though even in this early case it's worth noting that Arabic sources from this time use the same word for gunpowder as they did Naphtha: naft).

Similarly, the "Middle Ages" as a European historical term spans from the 400's to the 1400's covering an extremely broad period of roughly 1000 years. In history, the end of the Middle Ages and transition to the Modern Period is often described as being either the 16th century (giving the Middle Ages another century to its already extensive timeline) or the Fall of Constantinople in 1458.

But because the game is supposed to have a "Medieval-tier timeframe" doesn't mean that it can by default have gunpowder. In a technological concept gunpowder is - despite its early flaws and to pop-perception - too much of a game changer, much like magic.

I'd also like to complain about that app. Damn that's a lot of useless information that'll actually never make it anywhere, or could just as easily be invoked in the very first post. I just like to cut shit down to three points, not twenty-five points. Usually the nation's name, leader, location and history will suffice in my opinion, with an optional "other" section if someone feels they want to post a full dissertation on religion and fashion.

Also because I generally refuse to do anything without a map first, I'll make a donation of a map I made for another RP that went under in a few posts. I don't think Krazaz would mind:

For reference, consider this map to be a 1:1 scale to Earth. This'd be the whole world. Full version.

Hmm, while a good map. Perhaps something easier to edit should be used?(depends on the GM really.)
Maybe something like this?

Editing that map won't be hard; just draw circles around the area(s) your faction controls. It will become difficult when there are 15+ nations on it, however. Then it'll just become a soup of rainbow gibberish that'll make me want to rope myself. Solution? Establish a player limit.

Lacks any sort of geographical distinction.

And I can easily edit the map if need be. Using layers isn't that hard of a task on my end. Otherwise ASTA is right that the GM can just as well outline the general geographic region someone's marked as their territory, you don't need a single-colored blob.

Howdy-ho. I'm inclined to throw in a vote for a 13th century-equivalent era.

I am so conflicted on what to be.

Just so many things.

I could be the empire of hands and go about revering the hand, something of which is the hallmark of the ambitious creature and make hyper realistic marble statues of hands all over the place. Every victory stele coming with at least a large, pulsating fist as the topper.

Or go and make my iron age maori-carthaginian mix and have warrior merchants that commit cannibalism and do human sacrifice while actively engaging in trade with other nations and thinking about the meaning of existence. As you can see, my folk are far more civilized than whatever savage beasts ASTA will make.

I've been a bit inactive lately.

I am not sure what I intend to do. The question I currently have to ask is should I go handy or go waka?
