A young fisherman's boat gets smashed against some rocks during a heavy storm, but instead of drowning he's saved by a merman and brought back home to his house near the shore. Mermaids/men are viewed as pests among the small community the boy lives in, so fishermen will kill any that they encounter. But this merman's actions thawed the young man's icy heart, and he can't bring himself to kill him. It's rough seas ahead for the unlikely duo as they struggle with developing feelings and attempt to hide their relationship from disapproving parents and closed-minded peers.

Elijah is a 10 foot long merman, with the human half only taking 4 feet of that length. His long hair is mess of brown and his eyes are as blue as the sky. His skin if very fair, especially on his face. His tail is long and as thin as his body, but gets thinner at the end of it. His scales are a dark blue color, and darker blue on the fins at the end of his tail. And something else to note, his ears are pointed and 4 inches long. And while you can't see it most of the time due to his rat's nest of hair, he has a small golden piercing on his left ear as a symbol of strength.
Personality
Elijah is that happy-go-lucky guy who is always great to have around. There is not a day where he does not have a smile on his face, he smiles so much it seems painted onto his face. Even in dark time he keeps himself as optimistic as he can. While he is happy most of the time he is shy around people other than mermen. He does not like being left alone and will let you know if he wants attention. Behind his shell of happiness is a very emotional merman who just wants to be loved by other people, even if he never shows his longing to love. He also has a short temper and a natural hatred for sharks.
Background
Starting at the day he was born, Elijah has always wanted to go out and explore, but he was held back by his mother and the leader of the group of mermen she lived in. Still, in his early adventures he managed to sneak away from the group and play in the coral reefs without a care, but this later came with a price. One day, when he was 14 years old a shark sneaked up and attacked him. Luckily, the frightened little merman avoided getting bitten into, but as he fled back to the group he did not avoid the shark following him. The shark went on a rampage, and destroyed their living spaces. Luckily, no one was hurt, but everything laid in ruins. The leader was very upset with Elijah, as he did the very thing that he preached to the little merman not do to. And so, he was forbidden to leave his home until he reached adulthood. He was locked home, and for a year he was left there, lonely and bored. But this would not be his last day outside as a child. From his house, he challenged the leader's authority, quite strongly in fact. The leader was very upset by this, and so he was challenged to the one thing he thought he was best at, a duel. Everyone watched, and even though it was close Elijah won by knocking out his opponent with a heavy tail slap. He had won and gained the right to take control. As a symbol of strength, he had one of his ears pierced near the tip with pure gold. But he felt bad for the former leader, and so he gave him leadership instead, what he wanted to do instead was go out and explore the world. And so, with permission from his mother, Elijah went off to explore the world. And one day he met a friend (Blue) while hunting fish, and the two became best buddies ever sense that day. But then, he went swimming during a heavy storm...

Freckles are scattered across his face, arms, legs, and shoulders, and a considerable number of bruises can be found on his body at any given time. His fingers are a mess due to his habit of picking at his nails, and his eyes tend to have a tired look to them. His wardrobe consists heavily of tank tops, swimming trunks, and a pair of beaten-up sandals he's worn for years.

Kale tends to be cold and reserved, especially towards unfamiliar people. He can be highly self critical. He's very teasing and sarcastic, but easily becomes embarrassed and frustrated when he's treated the same way. It takes quite a while for him to learn to trust someone, and despite his habits of pushing people away, he hates being by himself. Once he begins to trust and care about someone, he grows quite protective and loyal.

Six years later, shortly after his sister (Olivia) was born, his grandfather passed away, so his family moved down to Florida to keep his grandmother company. While his parents worked hard to establish their business again, Kale spent lots of time with his grandmother, and the two became quite close friends as he grew up. His brother (Eric) was born four years after they moved. Their family became good friends with the neighboring family; they had a son (Asher) one year older than Kale and a daughter (Julia) between the ages of Olivia and Eric. Asher quickly became Kale's best friend, dubbing him Feli after learning his middle name. As the two grew, they began to realize just how closed-minded and oppressive their small community was as it slipped into a period of economic struggle. Kale had to help his family by fishing, babysitting, and doing the register at the bait and tackle shop, barely managing to find time for volleyball on the side. The lowest point of that year was when Kale's grandmother passed away. It's been a few months since then, and things have slowly started to get better, but not nearly perfect.
