A RP between me and Leigha Moscove.

We'll be doing an online/offline situation with slice of life aspects. Our roles will be allies online but not so close offline. The online world itself is a fantasy creation with mnany quests for players to snag and complete for various prizes and glory. We could have the quest require a two person party to maybe do some kind of long spanning scavenger hunt? Maybe it required plays to take on different dungeons and such. We also need to decide on general details like maybe Classes, skills, etc. I'm on the general thought process with dot hack. That's generally where my mind is when it comes to online RPGs, you might be familiar with something else like SAO but I'm not into it...so we'll have to find a way to make sure we're on the same page with the basic concepts at least.

I think our online characters should know one another for a while so we can get over the "introduction" period of things, which could imply our roles may be skilled online, maybe even noteworthy in the world itself.

Now in terms of offline stuff, they're at a college, maybe some small no-name town in the USA? They could live on maybe the same dorm floor, have a few classes together but not too keen to talk to each other? If we did settle on the small town idea, they could have grown up at the same middle/high school and such, have the same interests (hence similar classes) but maybe just don't like the other for whatever personal reason. If you wanted to throw me your thoughts and a CS, we could hopefully get this off the ground soon. I could then get my own CS together too, probably one for online and offline personalities and such...

I'm thinking more WoW type system online. I'm familiar with several types of MMO, so I'm thinking of something like WoW online. There's classes, professions, and races. We can borrow those from WoW if you want, or just come up with our own groups. The quest can be similar to that of Sword Art online. Defeat a multiple dungeon tower. This would explain why they need to work together, as in MMOs, you need a healer in every group when questing. So, whoever's the fighter is known as one of the best, and he wants to prove it by doing the tower pretty much alone. He asks the healer.

They know each other from trading, so we should have professions where trading would be necessary. They had started when they were beginners, and become quite successful and well known. Their trading has also proven an advantage in the rest of the quests, because it allows their items to be stronger than most and that allows them to be two of the best players.

I'm just kind of coming up with things based on my experience, so you can change, add, or subract anything you want.

I'm thinking that there be two character sheets. One for online, and one for offline. I'll come up with what I think should be on those after we get this part down.

I've never played WoW personally but it's possible we can snag different races/classes/missions and mix and match from various fandoms for inspiration. I would say any mission/quest could require different types of players. As you mentioned, healers/clerics/medics/etc are pretty useful. I could see some missions/quests requiring them while others wouldn't allow them, maybe for added challenge. In regards to how I see my role, I'm happy to play a healer type or someone who does a bit of both close combat and spells.

I think having the two players be friends, trade items and look out for one another since they began would also work out and make sense. It would give them a good relationship without us having to struggle to deal with introductions and getting to know each character.

I can work on my CS, were you thinking of using pictures for appearances? If so, real life or anime? If not, just tell me. I'd rather us be on the same page in terms of cohesiveness.

I don't really care. When I used to be an active member on the site, I didn't use pictures and just used descriptions. Then when I went to another RP site to try my hand at a different RP style, I got lazy and went with pictures. I think it'll be hard for me to find a picture to go with whatever I have in mind for the in game thing, though, so maybe we can just do descriptions rather than pictures? I can make up a character sheet with the minimum information I want, to help me make decisions in the roleplay.

First, we need to figure otu the races, classes, and professions now as well as what advantages and disadvantages they have. I've never played WoW myself, but I've played several other MMOs, and these things not only have a big influence on the game character, but it's kind of fun to make. More fun than playing the game itself.

Ok, no pictures then.

I think four or five classes might work. Healer, Fighter, Mage, Ninja, Swordsman? If you wanted races, what did you have in mind?

Fighter and Swordsman are the same, in my opinion. Mage, Archer, Swordsman (or Knight), and Thief? I know it's only four, but those are four basic ones for MMOs. Just with different names.

Mage would be healer.
Swordsman/Knight would be close range fighter and tank
Archer is long range fighter
Thief is close range fighter, but not tank

Races, I'm thinking Elves (may or may not be separated into light and dark elves), Orcs, Vampires, Dwarf, Goblin, Troll, and Human?

If we're having only four classes, I don't know if we want a lot of races unless they add something to the classes, like certain classes would be given varying aspects for fighting and defending. Like trolls would be be slow but sturdy with defense. And dwarfs would be nimble but not terribly strong. If the classes aren't key to the story (since we will focus on offline as well) I'd rather stick to human, troll, maybe elves? I think keeping things simple would be useful, if we were doing things purely online, then it would be a different situation of course.

The classes and races all have pros and cons. Trolls are slow with high defense and high attack.. Their attacks are close range. We can take dwarves out. Humans have low defense, average attack, and average speed. They're played by players who want more of a challenge, and their weapons can be close or long range. Elves have long range weapons. High speed. Low defense. Average attack.

Then for classes Knight is the tank. They have highest health and defense. Mage is healer. We can include the other two, but these two are necessary in any party so I figured that we'd just stop there to keep it simple. Then there is obvious combinations that make for things being better.

So troll knight and elf mage?

I'm thinking our RP starts as both online and irl. They meet each other irl and complain to the other online unknowingly. Then they eventually (not too soon, mind you) find out that it's the same person. They stop going online to avoid each other. Then they get close irl and maybe we can go to them being back online again to spend more time together? The last part is optional, depending on if you like the online part. It'd be easier to have most of it irl, though. Because I don't want to go too deep into the MMO aspects of the RP.

Awesome, it looks like you've got a great handle on the way things can balance out in terms of basic stats with attack and defense with the varying races and classes. If you wanted to edit a post here and make a formal grid or collection of the info, that would be pretty helpful. Or I can do it if you'd like me to. I do agree that them venting online about their offline issues would be a good place to start. Though since we are putting them in a small town, I don't think they'll be "meeting" offline for the first time. I think I mentioned in a post or two above that they could have known each other for a couple years, of course if one moved into town during high school then their jarring interactions could be minimized until;university.

We just need to be on the same page as far as their interactions in the past.

I think depending where the sole conflict lies, we could have things 35-65 in terms of online-offline interactions. I do think them retreating offline to handle their issues would make sense, but the big issue would be why they don't see eye to eye in the first place and what made them grind one another's gears.

I think (if I recall properly) that yours would be sort of the quiet/loner sort and mine would be more optimistic and bubbly, so aside from that, there could be some event in high school or middle school that created a large rift like some petty argument.

I'm gonna unsubscribe from this since it doesn't look like this is panning out.
