It was a quiet day. Students were flooding inside the halls of Browning High School, their elegant uniforms swaying in the wind. Classes would be starting in less than a hour. Until then, the hallways would be filled with wandering students, chatting with their friends sbout this and that. Brianna wasn't one of them. With earphones plugged in her ears blasting heavy metal music, she walked through the crowds that parted like the red sea for the student council president and daughter of one of the most important benefactor of the school. She ignored the students' greetings of good mornings, their words muted to her by the loud music. It was rude behavior, she knew, but she had more pressing matters in her mind.

The foreign exchange student was on the top of that list. He was some kid from Europe, if she remembered correctly. Frankly, Brianna was worried if he would adjust well to an American high school and if he would be able to keep up with the heavy requirements of Browning. If he wasn't able to... Well, Brianna would never let some foreign student bring down the reputation of their school' She'd worked too hard to maintain it, and to have it ruined by some floozy during her time. She would never be able to live down the shame.

She paused her musings and took out her earphones as she neared the student council room. She didn't expect anyone to be there yet as it was still early, so she was pleasantly surprised when she saw that Hansel Cross, the vice president, and Alice Sakai, the secretary, were already there. Alice was going through some paperwork, while Hansel, the more laid back one, was just lounging around. They both greeted the president, who quickly walked over to her table and sat at her chair. The student council room was made to look like a huge congregation of tables, with Brianna's large mahogany table at the head.

"Is the exchange student here yet?" Brianna asked. It was Hansel who answered her, saying that he would probably be arriving soon. Brianna sighed, awaiting the new student's arrival.

Brianna slouched down on the table, not really having much to do. Paperwork was done by Alice, and Hansel took care of student management. On slow days, almost all Brianna did for the day was to stare at her empty desk, occassionally playing games on her phone. She was only busy whenever there were annual school activities to take care of, or when faculty meetings needed to be overseen. But on an average day, Brianna had nothing to do. She didn't even have a class for first period as she had already taken it the previous year. Hansel seemed to notice her boredom and siddled up next to her, bumping her shoulder with his. "I'm sure the student will be here soon, then you can have something to do," he said.

As he did so, a loud knock erupted from the closed door. Looking up and making sure that her appearance was presentable, she spoke out, "Come in."

An immediate scowl found its way to Brianna's lips as she saw the way the transfer student was dressed. Hansel and Alice seemed to have noticed her obvious irritation and quickly excused themselves, Hansel stopping momentarily to wish Max good luck. Once the door was shut behind them, Brianna motioned for the transfer to take a seat in any one of the available chairs.

"Is looking like trash acceptable in your old school, Mr. Baker?"

Max sat down and was taken back by what she said " Mr. Baker, That is what they call my dad, I am Max " he smiled at her " Also I am only a little scruffy, I was all neat and tidy when I left home but every thing fell out of place " he tried to fix his tie " my apologies if it has up set you, i shall try to fix it ". He looked around the room " So what happens next " he looked quite excited to explore the school.

Brianna continued to grimace at the sight of his uniform. A little scruffy didn't do it any justice, and even the tie was crooked. Sighing in irritation, she stood and walked over to him, fixing his tie with a practiced hand. She also attempted to fix what little of his uniform that she could before taking a step back. He looked a bit better, but still below the usual school standards. "I expect you to be neater next time."

She then moved over to her desk where a folder was sat. She handed it to Max, explaining, "Inside are your schedule, a list of additional requirements, every subject's syllabus, a map, and a slip that you need to have signed by every teacher you have." She also took out a copy of the handbook and handed to to Max. "Read on this," she ordered with a firm glare.

"I suppose you would need a guide to show you around the school for the rest of the day," Brianna said as she checked her wristwatch. A quarter before the first period would start. "I'll be showing you around. Do you have a phone? I'll give you my number so you can contact me in case you need anything."
