"Well then what are we supposed to do!?" I yelled, just as frustrated as he was. "We'd have a better chance on the outside than certain death on the front lines! All we'd need is a few guns and supplies! I can't just--" I stopped myself, realizing my voice grew louder and louder with every word I spoke. "Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to shout." I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "I'm scared. I don't want to go out there..."

I looked down at the ground, tired and irritated with the situation we were in. "I'm sorry too. I just don't know what we can do. There's just no outcome that looks good to me." I said sliding my hands into my pockets. "Let's just go and find the General, he might be able to shed some sort of light on this, get rid of the confusion."

"Yeah, alright. I guess he'd be in his office. We should start there." I looked down and kicked a pebble that was near my foot. "Lead the way." I could hear the ruckus getting worse inside. Pretty soon, people were going to barge through the doors to get away from it all.

I nodded and set off in the direction that I remembered his office to be in. Not even five minutes later, we were pushed off the pathway by a group of armed guards who were running in a solid group towards the cafeteria. I shook my head. "Glad we got out of there when we could." I said shooting a glance at Daisy. "Hopefully no one gets hurt."

"Yeah, hopefully." I looked over my shoulder to see the group picking up their speed. I just hoped they weren't going to be taking a few out before the battle even started. Just a couple of minutes later, we were arriving at the doors of the building the general's office was. "You think he's in there?" I looked at Sam as I opened the door for us.

"He better be, I haven't got enough energy to be running all over camp to find him." I said as I followed her inside the building. The foyer was small and warm as we stepped inside. There were a few chairs dotted around the walls, but the desk that sat against the back wall took up most of the space. A young man sat behind it, his glasses slowly slipping down his nose as he read intently over a stack of paperwork.
"Hi." I said, announcing our presence and he started, pushing his glasses up his nose as he looked up at us. "Know where we can find the General?"

The young man rolled his eyes as he nodded. "Yes, yes. He's down the hall, third door to the right." He shooed us away with his hand as he flipped through his paperwork with the other. "Knock before you go in, he's a very important man, you know." The man finished. I nodded, gently taking Sam's arm and guiding him down the hall.

"Weird... He didn't ask us who we were or why we needed to see him. He should have better security since he's such an important man." I scoffed.

I shrugged gently, my ribs beginning to ache from all this walking. "Who know's, maybe the security left to help contain the riot in the food hall." I suggested as we reached the third door on the right. From inside I could hear low voices talking quickly and urgently. Raising an eyebrow at Daisy, I knocked twice and immediately heard the voices drop, seconds later the door was being hauled open and a menacing looking man was snarling down at us.
"Sorry to interrupt, we just wanted a word w-" Not letting me finish, he scoffed and pushed us aside, striding past us and out of the building.

I stumbled back as the man shoved us aside. "Ummm, rude! You didn't have to push us!" I shouted at the man as he marched out of the building. Where ever he was going, he was determined to get there. "What an ass. Was that him?" I asked Sam, peeking from behind him and into the General's office. Papers were everywhere, scattered all over the floor and bits and pieces of his desk. But I couldn't see enough to actually notice if someone was still in there or not.

I stepped forwards into the General's office, rubbing my now throbbing ribs gently with a frown. "I don't think so." I said as I noticed an official looking man sitting in an armchair in the corner of the room, his head in his hands. "Uh, hi... Mr. General sir?" I rolled my eyes at my own ridiculous wording.
The man glanced up at us, looking tired and stressed. "Sorry. Who are you?" He asked with a sigh, obviously not in the mood to be chatting.

"We're soldiers here. The new soldiers that were stationed here just a few days ago." I scanned his face for any interest but there was none. He just looked annoyed and tired. "We wanted to have a word with you about everything that's going on." I paused. "If that's okay with you of course... Sir."

He sighed and looked between the two of us. "Well if you want to talk to the General, you've lost out. I'm not the General anymore." He stood up wearily and moved over to his desk. "I've been stood down. I didn't agree with the governments choices to close down the camp and send you all off to the front line. So you're wasting your time, I can't help you."

I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. I was in utter shock and disbelief. "So that's it?" I shook my head. "That's it." I laughed, "You can't be serious. We're just being sent out there. Great. Just great. We're alllll gonna die." I laughed, walking down the hall and out the door. "No going back now! This is the end of the road for us!" I yelled to no one. I could feel tears swelling in my eyes again. I felt hopeless. I took a deep, shaky breath as I tried to fight back any angry tears that streamed down my face. But I broke down and every tear came pouring out.

I stood there staring down at the man who was supposed to be in charge, he looked like a complete mess. He couldn't be serious, he couldn't just give up on his camp like that. "You can help us then." I said and he looked up at me, leaning back in his chair with a scoff.
"I can help you? Now how would I possibly do that?" He asked eyeing me up.
"You can get us out of here." I stepped forwards, getting wound up in my idea. "You know how this place works, you can get us what we need, give us directions, help us live. You don't want us to go to the front line? Then do something. Get us out of here."

I fiercely wiped tears away from my eyes as I continued to cry. I felt like such a big baby. Wallowing in my own self-pity. This was one situation I couldn't get myself out of. I began to think of how my sister always got me in trouble, but always managed to find a way to get me out of it. I wished she was here to get me out of this one, but I knew that wasn't going to happen. I sniffled, as I watched a few of the armed guards from just a few minutes ago, walk pass with handcuffed soldiers in their clutches. "Get yourself together, Daisy." I mumbled. "Stop being a baby." I said to myself. I nodded my head, wiped my eyes one more time, and reentered the building, making my way back towards the General's office.

The ex-General sat still in his chair, hopefully thinking things over. I looked over my shoulder as I heard Daisy come back into the room and noticed her red eyes. I offered her a supportive smile before turning back to the General. "So?"
"It's too risky." He said immediately and held up a hand, silencing me as I opened my mouth to shout at him. "If I help you, they will know. They will kill me, and you for that matter. How do you expect me to be able to sneak a hundred soldiers out of the camp? You do realize it'll be pretty damn obvious!" He growled and slammed a hand down on the paper covered desk in frustration.

I gave Sam a small smile and kept my mouth shut as I listened to what he and the Ex-General were saying. I guessed Sam was trying to persuade him to sneak us out of here. But it wasn't going to work. I wasn't surprised. He wouldn't be able to sneak that many people out of this camp. And if he did, they'd come after us and probably kill us. We were dead meat either way. The only thing to do now was to prepare ourselves. Prepare ourselves for the fight of our lives... For our lives.

"But you must be able to at least tr-" I started, but was quickly interrupted as the he stood up, fuming.
"NO! You stupid boy, you don't understand what's going on here do you? You're just a soldier, a pawn. You know nothing and you need to leave. Right now. You have no right to be in here! Get out!" He shouted, his face turning purple and the veins on his face popping out.
I said nothing as I took a step backwards, turned towards the door and grabbed Daisy's arm, pulling her out behind me. "C'mon, he's useless." I muttered as we went down the hall, passed the man behind the front desk and pushed open the door.

I remained silent as Sam guided us down the hall and out the door. "So." I huffed. "What do we now?" I asked. "We could go steal some stuff." I suggested. "I don't know. This whole thing is draining me. It's still early morning and I'm totally drained. What in the world do we do now." I looked up at Sam, searching his face for an answer.
