Okay, so I love zombie roleplays but I notice the one's that I see around are always so... convoluted. They always have a ridiculous plot or some kind of 'twist'. Thus, I present a very stereotypical (or not so stereotypical with all these 'zombies with a twist' rps) zombie apocalypse rp.

Now, before you start huffing and puffing about the lack of originality, let me tell you that sometimes (if not all the time) the background/setting of the story is less important than how the story plays out (Naruto, Fairy Tail, Attack on Titan anyone? Love the world, hate the story?). Anyways, you don't need some elaborate explanation for the outbreak, or some crazy quarantine zones and military excursions to spice up the story. Nope, just some survivors in a post-apoc setting interacting with each other.

That being said, the story will be quite reliant on the characters. Therefore, I will be a bit strict on character apps. I will be looking for good, well developed characters who have room for growth and character development. Also, I will expect a decent post length (1 paragraph minimum). The last tool that I will use to help develop the story is the possibility of PvP (if you don't know what this is... god help you). Every character will start in an overrun city. You can choose to help each other, fight each other, be alone, start a group, fight as a group, what ever. Note that I said possibility of PvP- as in it's not required. With or without PvP I will introduce NPC survivors that may or may not attack people they come across.

So, if you're interested or have any questions, let me know!

"Zombie fighters of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your brains." — Karl Marx

Introduction

How it all began- I feel like I should start with 'how it all began', but really, I don't have the slightest idea. I remember the news reports, they talked of the virus that had been popping up in different locations across the country. What country? America, shit, what other country would I be talking about? Anyways, yeah, the news reports. They kept saying all kinds of different things, all contradicting each other. I think they had the outbreaks contained for a while... I think. But Idunno, something happened and then the infected just got out of control. Suddenly it was a nationwide pandemic. How it got to that point- my guess is politics. Some shit eater wanting votes probably let the outbreaks get a bit wild so that he could be a hero when he stopped them. Turns out, he didn't. Turns out, he fucked the entire nation. But that's just my guess.

Maybe I should be a bit more clear- I'm talking about the end of the world- the zombie apocalypse. If you don't know what a zombie is then I have no idea how you're still living. Look outside- see those murderous, flesh-eating fucks that never stop moaning? Ya, don't let em bite you.

Anyways, when the city was hit, it was hit hard. I mean, just the panic alone could have demolished this place. I'm pretty sure the military came in, trying to stop the massive waves of undead, but, alas, they're all dead now. Well, they're probably walking dead, but dead nonetheless. The people still alive, people like me, well, we're basically just lucky. I've been living in this city my whole life, haven't ever lived anywhere else. Even at the end of the world, I could go anywhere, but for some reason, I stay in this shithole. Fuck, who knows, there may still be civilization out there and I wouldn't even know it. The way I see it, if the world is still alive, one day they'll march on in here and clean this place out. They have to. Right?

The Setting

This roleplay will take place in a fictional setting set in a real world. If the participants of this game decide to move out of the city, this section will be edited accordingly.

The Zambambos

The zombies in this Roleplay are very basic zombies- slow moving, moaning, flesh eating, etc. However, if you want to get into the very details of them, they are modeled mostly after the zombies created by Max Brooks. I do this because, to my knowledge, Brooks-type zombies are the most well developed and consistent type of zombies other than those created by Rober Kirkman. I would use Kirkman's zombies if they weren't so easily fooled. Covering yourself in zombie guts and removing the zombie jaw are two factors that I could not allow. That being said, the zombies in this RP are slightly different than both Brooks and Kirkman zombies.

Awesome, no rush. I'd like to get at least 1 or 2 more people in here before starting an OoC.

Sure thing. I like zombie roleplays, what I dislike is stupidity and cliche crap. Yet on this one you detailed how zombies work (and by this I mean the ONLY way zombies should work). I'm surely going to get on this.

Haha, yes, and this RP totally embraces the fact that it is cliche. Hopefully you'll enjoy it. :)

Oops, i thought i mentioned it somewhere but i guess i didn't. I will edit the OP once i get on my computer. I'm thinking 2-3 months is good enough where survivors are still in the cities but not long enough for actual groups to have formed.

About the grittyness- you can be as dark and gritty as you want. However, keep in mind that if it is obvious you're adding things just to sound 'dark and gritty', your writing will look awkward. Violence and gore for the sake of violence and gore is hardly ever acceptable.

TL;DR submit something and if it gets out of hand I'll let you know.

Character Name: Kyle Yukimura

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Appearance:

Personality: Kyle is a very calm and cool person, he always plan ahead before his actions. He is a very friendly person before the outbreak and his heart is quite fragile, when his friend died to a zombie when pushing Kyle out of harm's way, he was in sorrow for nearly a week due to the fact that he just recovered from his dying parents, he just doesn't care what happened to him then. After that sad week, he regain his sense and decided to be strong and live for this friend and his parents. Kyle used to be friendly as written just now but after the outbreak, Kyle have witness the true nature of desperate humans trying to survive. Kyle helped the victims and got betrayed in the end, he changed his view towards humans ever since, now he travels alone.

Background: Kyle was a student studying in a private university before the zombie outbreak. Kyle was an ace student in his class as expected from an Asian kid but, his father doesn't care about his grades. Besides that, his father (Japanese) taught him how to use Japanese weapons like katana, nodachi and shurikens as his father is an instructor in a dojo in US. As for Kyle's mother (American), she is a hunter with a fit body which attracted his father in the first place. Kyle loved his mother more than his father as his mother is very kind, caring, understanding although, strict. In the weekends, Kyle's family went to the outskirts to do their weekly family quality time, hunting. All those good time was over when the outbreak occurs, both his parent fell victims to the virus and Kyle ran away grieving, he couldn't find the courage to end their life. This is the time where he grouped up with his best friend (Before the shove). So far, Kyle have been gathering supplies in the city if possible, he will make sure no humans or zombies around when he searched the store. Besides that, when the city doesn't seem to be the right choice, he would hunt small animals in the outskirts to survive.

Equipment: Old-Style Japanese Nodachi (Re-made), hunting dagger, flute, a rucksack with supplies (Med, food and etc), forest camouflage suit, and a pair of working gauntlet.

Other Notes: Kyle is a non smoker, non drinker. Kyle can swim but not for long. Kyle can also play his flute when he gets too boring. Kyle's body is medium tone from his training in the dojo and also the jungle.

OOC: Done! If anything, please talk to me. I changed everything that you have said in your last post. Don't worry about nodachi, with his medium tone build and his skills with it, Nodachi isn't all that hard to handle.

No problem. This is still just the interest check. I will probably get an OoC up tomorrow and then you'll have time still before the IC starts.

Also, Guildname means your username on the website. For you it would be Illuminami.

Character Name: Joseph Reed
Age: 38
Gender: male
Appearance:

Personality: Joseph can be described as a rather reserved and calm man. He is a man of few words and picks his battles. However, as a result of this, he finds that he gets little say in group settings and is ordered around by the other members. He prefers to travel on his own, however he does grow lonesome at times. Before the outbreak, he could be best described as passive aggressive and gentle. Come the outbreak, he was forced to resort to violence which disturbed him greatly. Joseph is a man who is in touch with his thoughts and likes to write them down on paper. Currently, he is scared that he will become a monster with all the killing he is doing. He also scares himself by his increasing aggressiveness. Nonetheless, Joseph is still a gentle giant. Yet he may not remain that way.

Background: Joseph Reed was born to an English professor and a stifled housewife in the city. He had a relatively easy childhood and had a few close friends throughout his years. However, he was constantly living in the shadow of his father. Being the Reed’s only son, Joseph’s father had high and strict expectations of him. Joseph was to go to university right after high school and become a professor just as his father was. This all changed when Joseph was 21, two years into his degree when he met the love of his life. A farm girl named Margaret. She was young, beautiful, and free spirited. Needless to say, Joseph dropped out of school a year later to marry her. They owned a ranch together where Margaret would teach Joseph everything about farming, raising livestock, shooting, and hunting. When Joseph was 25, he and Margaret had a son named Tom. The following 13 years leading up to the outbreak, the Reed’s focussed on being a family and running their ranch.
The virus was delayed in making it’s way to the Reed’s ranch. As they lived out almost in the middle of nowhere in a small rural county, they had heard little of the outbreak. They had no idea it had gotten so out of control or the devastating effects of the virus.
One late afternoon, Joseph and his wife had realized that their son had not yet returned from earlier on that day when he told them he was taking one of the horses for a ride. Margaret insisted that Joseph stay behind while she went to look for him in case Tom came back to the house while she was out. A few hours later, the sky was beginning to darken and now neither Margaret nor Tom had returned to the home. Joseph was beginning to grow anxious and decided to go out and look for them in his truck. He had no avail and returned home hours later. He continued to search the next day. If he did not find them by nightfall, he planned to call the police. In the afternoon, he went to the stable to search by horseback this time. This is when he found his wife and son - but not in the way that he had expected. They frothed at the mouth and staggered about, moaning, appearing to not have any control over their own mind or body. At the sound of Joseph opening the stable door, they attacked him, as well as another undead that was believed to be the one that infected them. How he got into the stable is a mystery. Joseph tried to find some way to subdue them without using his gun but all three were overpowering him and he could tell that they were not of a sound mind. He realized they had the virus he had faintly heard about. He had no choice but to use this gun to lay them to rest. This action still haunts him.
After this altercation, Joseph decided to pack up as many belongings as possible and set out to find help. He started off by vehicle, using his truck. But over the past few months of the outbreak, gas has become harder and harder to find and the sound of his truck is a magnet to the undead. He is thinking about ditching the truck. Since he left his ranch, he has been traveling from city to city, looking for survivors who are not hostile and grabbing food, supplies, and weapons wherever he can.

Equipment: hunting rifle with ammo, hand gun with ammo, crowbar, journal and pen, truck, wallet, two crates of canned food recently obtained, flask, half carton of cigarettes, lighter, two water jugs, half gallon of gas.

Other Notes: Joseph does smoke, although has slowed down as cigarettes are hard to come by now a days. He is a light drinker. He writes in his journal most nights. He can swim but is not that strong of a swimmer. He does not have any triggers, so to speak, but often sees visions and day dreams of his wife. He is notably strong, as he is a larger build. He has many nature survival skills as well (such as hunting, starting a fire, setting a trap, etc.)

@Illuminami: Hrmmm- there are only a few things that need changing before I accept your character. First, why is your character more emotionally distraught when his friend is killed rather than his parents? If his friend was that important to him, he should be more than a footnote in the background section.

Second, Summer City is rather large. Traveling through the city wouldn't be easy, not only because of zombies but because of physical obstacles as well (Barricaded streets, abandoned cars, etc). In the two months since the outbreak, I would only expect you to have explored a small portion of the city. That being said, just to make this clear, on the outskirts of the city (as with most other large cities within America) are suburbs. These are still fairly urbanized places compared to the country-side. There is still a large amount of danger here in terms of zombie population. I won't ask you to change this part in your application, however, I want you to be aware of how unsafe hunting here would be.

Next, your equipment needs a good amount of work. Your 'Old Japanese Nodachi' is confusing. Do you say 'old' because the style is old or because the sword in question is actually aged? If it is the latter, then I would certainly say that the sword is not battle-ready as the blade will have been aged and dull. While we're on the topic of battle ready, most swords found today are NOT battle ready. Even when sharpened, most swords will dull very quickly- they are not made for the constant use of decapitating human heads. I will assume, however, that you indeed have a battle ready sword. I will not be so gracious throughout the rest of the RP if another sword is discovered. Furthermore, about Nodachi's- I'm sure you know that Nodachi's are quite difficult to wield. They are the 'great sword' of Katana's, being that their length is typically longer than that of a Katana. This doesn't necessarily mean you need to change it- but I must make sure you aware of the sword's capabilities. Now, moving on, you say that you have a bow. This is entirely too vague. What kind of bow is it? Traditional? Compound? Traditional bows can become tiring to use repeatedly while compound bows require a good amount of maintenance. You also fail to mention what kind of arrows you have. If you have a compound bow, you absolutely cannot use wooden arrows. Similarly, you describe having a camouflage suit- what kind is it? If your mother was a hunter, I assume it is a suit used for forests- not an urban setting. Lastly, I cannot allow you to have the amount of equipment you have- more specifically, weaponry. A sword, a knife (though probably used more for practical reasons, it can still be a weapon), and a bow. I will allow you to have either (the sword) or (the bow, regardless of it's type, and the knife). It's up to you.

This also reminds me- I will be pretty lenient on ammunition. Counting bullets is far too irritating for both me as the DM and you. You WILL deplete your ammo if you get gun happy though. A good roleplayer will apply this limit to him/herself. Otherwise I will post in the OoC when you are running low/run out of ammo. That being said, you should probably avoid using your guns at all.

@Czech- I like your character. The only thing that needs to be edited is the fact that you've been searching cities for supplies. As I told Illuminami, cities are rather difficult to navigate and are extremely dangerous. I would rather this be the first city your character is traveling to. Your supplies all check out, and I like the fact that you have ammo and no gun, haha. If you think about ditching the truck, remember carrying all that food and water will be near difficult... though, I have a feeling you're well aware of this. I REALLY like the position this puts you in. Anyways, edit that little bit if you would and you're in.
