He looks at her and smiles back lightly, at least for now distracted from the fact he just watched himself be semi-eaten. He looked at his body and his eyes almost popped out of his head. The darkness draining from the area, flowing into his body, was insane! It wouldn't take but a few hours for his body to heal if this kept up! He looks for the source, able to wander farther as his bond to his body strengthens, and he quickly finds at least one of the sources.
A lot of it was seeping from the very walls... this was not a nice place to be anywhere near, not at all. With the building, the nurses must also have quite a bit of dark energy, as a location can only hold so much, and if too much builds up it leaks into surrounding living hosts... People all have dark energy. Every little white lie you tell, every dark secret you keep builds up some dark energy inside you. It's the reason people eventually stop feeling bad about them after the first couple of times, enough has built up that it affects how you perceive the world. Depending on the severity of the secret, it could be a little bit or a lot of darkness for each one.
And some people are just born drenched in dark energy, evil people who hold only destruction in their hearts. Desmond has learned to avoid these people, or if he must tolerate them he never trusts them. He looks at his friends when he returns, knowing they must at least have a few secrets, and thus have at least a little dark energy. He wondered how much they did have... He also wondered if taking some of the darkness from the nurses will mean that they will be at least a bit nicer... He didn't know, but what he did know was that this place... it wasn't good...
