Memories. Segments of life, stored away in a region of the brain - the hippocampus. They can be accessed for any reason, good or bad, everything from recalling the directions to the local store to recalling why it is you don't like a particular song. Memories can be linked to objects, environments, sensations. They can be triggered and it can be near impossible to make them stop.
Almost everyone has a painful memory or two - for some, even more. Depending on the severity, individuals can be near crippled by them. Memories are powerful. They can drive a person to commit acts of evil or they can help a person to learn and grow.
In New York in the year 2025, people grew weary of their painful memories. They wanted them gone and pleasant recollections put in their place. The Anamnesis Assembly was formed to help. A series of brain reconstructions via medication and intensive therapy removed selected memories and installed new, happier ones of the patient's choosing.
However, a high ranking member of the Anamnesis Assembly had other ideas. Instead of implanting pleasant memories, he implanted unimaginable nightmares. Government conspiracies and cover ups, the violence and shady goings on. All ones that the man had harvested from ex officials who wished to forget.
Only a handful of people were implanted with these memories before the man was hauled away to an unknown, yet likely gruesome fate. The process is irreversible and now, the individuals who have these memories are being hunted for the information they now have in their minds. You are one of those people.
Alright, so! Hey, guys. This is a roleplay that I thought of when watching a play through of the game 'To the Moon'. Here is a brief PLOT SUMMARY if the above was confusing:
Basically, you are a person who has a memory that you wished to get rid of and replaced with something nicer. However, the head doctor of the program removed your painful memory and instead replaced it with a particular government secret. The process is irreversible so now government officials are hunting you - well, your character - down to eliminate the chance of the secret being exposed. Your characters and others will have to work together to escape death.
A FEW RULES
- This my property, ya hear? What I say goes, yeah? Seriously, though, this is my literary baby and I'd like it to become a beautiful literary adult who's good at sports and stuff. If you have any suggestions, by all means chuck me a message. But if I'm adamant about something, that's the way it's gonna be.
- No god-modding. If your character came from your cranium, then you can control them as you please. If they are not your brain child, do not control them! Nobody likes that.
- No OOC drama. Guys, we are all friends here. We're all here to have a good time and write. Please don't be rude to each other. IC drama is a-ok if whoever your character has a problem with is cool with that. Just be civil with one another.
- Post length. I love me some paragraphs. Please, no one liners. I'm no novelist and I'm nowhere near the level of some of the people on here, but a minimum of two paragraphs would be appreciated!
- No smut. I know, I know. "AllOurPrettySongs, don't be such a prude!" I can hear a couple people saying. But this is my house and these are my rules. Don't be doing the do in this roleplay, please. Relationships are fine! You can have love interests and do that couple-y stuff like kissing and, I don't know, staring into each other's eyes. But if it's headed in a graphic direction, please move it to the PMs.
- Swearing and violence is allowed but let's not go overboard.
- If you're going to be absent, please notify me or I'll get worried and start posting 'Lost' signs around the neighborhood. I know there are pretty varied timezones on here, too.
