A Companion to Wolves

In the era of trolls, vikings, and dragons you are born into a safe little village. Your safety, however, is thanks to your regions legion of warriors; hardened men and women who are more beast than man. These warriors, known as wolfcarls, live far from the villages, near the mountains where trolls make their nests. They are the only protection your village has against these monsters and you're family is both equal parts grateful and afraid of their protectors. You have never known death nor war because of their protection and have never thought much else about the carls. All seems to be normal until the day of your 17th birthday, scheduled for most young boys to take over their fathers farms and for most girls to begin the marriage process- when your village is visited by a huge bear of a man. The beastly figure sits at your villages counsel seat, a throne-like chair for the head of the village, and he goes by the title of wolfjarl. Your village, having rarely or never seen a wolfjarl, immediately panic for of course this does not entail good news.

Janrek, as the wolfjarl goes by, has come to retrieve a select few from each village and bring back to his own village. By his side sits the largest wolf you have ever seen, its gleaming eyes hold your attention and you cannot look away. Your father is hesitant but is more afraid of the jarl than anything else- so he allows you to step up alongside everyone that is your age in the village. With gleaming eyes Janrek surveys the young boys and girls, no younger than 17 and no older than 20, and without much thought picks out you and maybe another. You are only given two hours to pack and say goodbye to your family and then you are whisked away to the wolfheall, a place where man and wolf are equals.

There you spend two months learning the customs and ways of the society you are forced into. Upon your arrival you pass through a ceremony of rebirth where you receive a new name and a rank, but despite the rank which you receive you will always be referred to ask "pup" by those who outrank you. Its much colder at the mountains base and you are given a warm change of clothes and are to share a hut with the other new arrivals. After two months of training and proving to everyone else in the village your worth you are presented with an amazing right of passage; a wolf pup. Only a select few are chosen by their squad leaders to actually have a pup (each wolf, known as trellwolves, can only have up to a litter of 6) and only then do the pups choose their companion. If and when you are chosen, another ceremony of soul bondage is preformed between you and the trellwolf, ending with your first hunt and the naming of the wolf; whoever here, too, does the wolf choose its own name. Now with your companion and the necessary training you are fully equipped to defend the land from trolls, wyverns, witches and other monsters.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This rp is based in medieval times; weapons are limited to swords, axes, maces (think skyrim). Its based off of a book by the same title, so if you like to look into the world a little bit more look it up. However this rp isn't strictly going to follow the book; there will be some changes. The storyline can go anywhere, really, i just want a bunch of beast-men to go and kill trolls. By the way, these beastmen are known through their regions, or holds, as werthreat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Alrighty, CS:

******{If you would like to be any of the NPCs that i've set up just pm with who you want and a roleplaying sample. I'm picky, though, and much more so if you want to be a wolfjarl.

You will have to fill out a General CS and a Wolf CS if you want an NPC. I'm not allowing OC's outside of Thralls for a bit; you can have them as a second character but i'd like for you to hold up on that until i say alright.}******

~~~~~~~~
Werthreat life
Locations of the Wolfheall
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Wolves

(The lifespan of a Trellwolf is 30 years, but some, along with their carls, rarely reach the wolf's 15th year)

Konigenwolves (Alphas)

Other High Ranking Wolves/their Carls (ordered by pairs)

Wolf Deaths:

If your wolf is killed you can always have another or take on the wolf of a dead wolfcarl- but remember losing a wolf is like losing part of your self, its something painful that one typically would not want to go through again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rules: all guild rules apply
Necessary Vocab:
Wolfcarl- member of the werthreat that is bonded to a wolf. There are many subclasses to being a Wolfcarl, which are listed above. All begin as Pups or Welps before they are bonded to a wolf.
Wolfjarl- Alpha of the pack.
Wolfheall- the name given to the village.
Werthreat- a race of men and women who are one with wolves. Often made up of large "packs" or "holds" and they are the main source of defense for the countryside. They are interconnected by the Pack Sense
Pack Sense- an unspoken language between Werthreat that connects all their senses which, if strong enough, can even span large distances. Pack sense usually develops between man and wolf earlier than with the whole pack; you see through your wolves eyes and smell through their nose and hear what they hear. Your wolf even communicates with you through the Pack Sense, showing images and sounds through scents and colors. (ex. Var looked down at Pala, his golden-brown companion, for the sharp scent pine and treesap- flashes of the color green and gray and red passed through his mind and he knew then that the crash he heard earlier was that of a fallen tree- and that someone had been injured.)
Trellwolf- massive, powerful wolves.
Konigenwolf- Alpha female wolf.
~~~~
Q+A

Q: OH! Wolves so are there werewol- *Slap*
A: NO. NO WEREWOLVES. If you want to play a werewolf go to free roleplay or something. None of that here. You should feel fine with how animalistic the werthreat are. That being said; no their eyes do not change color, no their teeth do not turn into fangs- their bodies do not shift in any way whatsoever. Some may file their teeth and nails to look more menacing but thats as far as i'll let you push it.

Q: jeeze, ok whatever. This rp sounds like it'll have a lot of magic involved, what should i expect?
A: not much, really. The first part of the rp is basically you and your wolf bonding, which isn't really that magical at all. The werthreat have no magic abilities whatsoever. Other than the monsters i want to keep this rp as realistic as possible. If someone can convince me otherwise i might be able to reconsider..

(Questions will be added with their answers once ya'll start asking)

Everything is currently being worked on. I'll edit later.

God freaking dammit why are all of your plots so damn enticing?! *ahem* I'm definitely interested, if not a little confused, as I haven't read these books. I'd love to join if there's ever a place for me.

Well, and forgive me if this was mentioned and I'm flaking out, but when we start with our characters, they will be Thralls, correct? Also, what exactly is the cast system? And is there a major plot at work here, or will it be mainly the lives of the characters? I'd assume the former, but you know what assuming does XD I'll probably think of other questions as I think about a character, so forgive me if I never shut up.

Oh no these are all great questions. If you choose to make your own character then they will be a thrall. But if you choose an NPC then you will go along with whatever rank they have. The cast system is set up like paths in a videogame- like how in some videogames you can choose a warriors path or a mages path- its the same concept here. It determines how your character and their wolf will grow throughout the rp. Plot wise I have something somewhere- I just need to find that too sorry xD

Would each of them likely have been from a separate village? And how strong are the gender roles in this universe? Please forgive my rambling, but if you're anything like me then hopefully you don't mind XD

I know that I wasn't going to turn anyone aware, however. So fairly large group, i think, was my original intention. Not so sure now, tho. But yeah they would all mostly come from different villages. If they decided to come from the same village then they would have to be different ages- I was thinking that the Heall cycles through the villages every set number of years. So assuming that then its probably every 4 years (judging from the books, idk why exactly i remembered this one detail xD) and so, in short, if people came from the same villages but belong to different cycles then they would be four years apart in age. To answer the gender roles question: in humans, men and women are seen as equals. To a man of the werethreat when he looks upon a sister he sees a companion of battle of equal power to his own. However this changes when it comes to the wolves. The wolves are very much female dominated. The konnigen wolves, the alpha females, hold power over all the other wolves. I hope that answers your question c: Btw no problem! I'd rather you be confident when jumping into the world rather than assume, like you said ;v;

Perfect, this helps me a lot. One last question: I'm thinking about my character, but I can't find the list of villages. Also, is each village known for something, or is it just a name to put behind your character? I would assume that the village your character grew up in must have some effect on how they turned out. And I know what you mean. I try to learn as much as I can about an RP universe before I enter ^_^

There is no list of villages actually! You can honestly make one up, as it will play a very small part in the rp. You can give your characters village something that will affect your character later in the rp, yeah c:

For example, someone who grew up in a farming village would likely be a hard worker, someone in a trading village would be busy, that sort of thing. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. And of course that could be exactly what you just said and I'm just incompetent.

People can consider that without the idea that where they come from defines them. Because at some point in the rp they are "reborn" so to speak into almost completely dif people. I need to leak that pdf asap because the author does a better job of explaining this xD Here lemme see if i can google books it [actw](https://books.google.com/books?id=Zhxli0IJw_IC&printsec=frontcover&dq=a+companion+to+wolves&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Fca1VO20E9LasATyloLYDg&ved=0CCIQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=a%20companion%20to%20wolves&f=false) Omg that cover I can't xD

Pfft XD That's amazing. A work of art. And I totally get it, makes sense. I can't think of any other questions right now, but knowing me more will probably come up. I might end up PMing you, so as not to crowd the OOC if that's okay with you.

I was looking over the reviews to jog my memory and people in the book have... Like.. Hardcore gay sex... Uhm. But... Yeah... You don't have to read it honestly xD At the time I DIDNT KNOW that it dealt with that and I just really liked the concept of wolf people killing trolls and all that (I didnt even finish the book)- but i feel like this should be said if i'm going to throw the book out for others to see xD I feel like I just scared you and everyone else that was interested away
