Name: Orun Age: 25 Appearance: ![Celebrating victory.](http://media.wizards.com/images/magic/daily/features/feat262c_6ettwm8x8n.jpg "Orun") Bio: Orun hails from a desert civilization somewhere far to the South of Anaxus Prime. His people are known to periodically pass through Anaxan controlled territories, almost always traveling alone. It is understood in Anax that the desert dwellers travel as a rite of passage, and bring stories and treasures back to their communities. Orun was one such traveler, heading North to seek his fortune. When he came upon the Prime Coliseum, he was intrigued enough to spend what little money he had to watch a fight. From the stands, he watched a pair of slaves with spears cowering in a corner as a griffin, wings clipped, paced back and forth hungrily. He thought to himself that he could do better fighting such beasts, having hunted similar animals back home. He joined the arena to prove it, and has been fighting ever since. He's best known for fighting beasts, and(as he is a free man and can make the choice) rarely accepts fights with men and women. Strength: 2 Speed: 0 Dexterity: 1 Armor: Heavy, level 3. Equipment: Fights with a spear primarily, but always carries a short sword into fights as well. --- Name: Vran Age: Unknown Appearance:![Her likeness on a promotion poster.](http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/053/9/4/gorgon_by_celiarts-d5vtr5i.jpg "Vran") When not in the arena, she wears a brass mask that covers her entire face, leaving only the snakes that she has for hair free. The mask is locked securely, and will only be taken off before a fight. There's a hole for her nose and mouth so that she can eat drink and breath, but the mask is uncomfortable and leaves her with sores on her face. Bio: Vran is an interesting and special case in the Coliseum. She is from a lineage of creature-people that Anaxans say were cursed by the gods, for reasons that vary from story to story. To look directly into a gorgon's face up close causes immediate paralysis, and for this reason she is both an interesting show and a dangerous asset. She is handled very carefully, as most who are struck by her power die when their heart stops. Vran is not an ordinary fighter, and is only put in the ring with slaves and condemned criminals, and even then only when the fighter in question has lost favor with the crowd. Vran has been at the Coliseum for just under seven months, and yet she has never lost a match, and is hated by the slaves for it. She is held in the same harsh conditions as the other slaves, but they keep a distance from her as even with her face covered, her snakes have a dangerous bite. She doesn't speak the Anaxan language very well, and is unlikely to improve because no one talks to her. All she understands is that when she fights, her face can feel the free air. To her, the danger of the arena is worth the temporary relief. She is unique even among the slaves as she does not get paid for her victories. Strength: 0 Speed: 2 Dexterity: 1 Armor: None, level 1. Equipment: She is given a shield to block blows, but is expected to kill slaves with her visage alone.

The site also seems to have trouble accepting line breaks. I tried to put space between the two CSes but no matter how many times I hit enter they're still back to back.

Eeeeh, the stats are far from set in stone. Here's how combat works in my current prototype system. Character A and Character B, let's actually just use the two I just made, pretend they're fighting. Orun swings at Vran. You roll a die for each(let's say a d6) and add the dexterity stat for the attacker, and the speed stat for the defender. Higher roll wins. If the speed wins out, the defender successfully blocks/dodges, otherwise the attacker lands a hit. Then you roll with their armor, 2d6(that's two six sided dice) and add the defender's armor stat. You get ten and above and the armor saves you. Otherwise, you take damage based on the attacker's strength. This is pretty clunky, though. I don't know if any of you have experience with tabletop playing, but I'd really like to trash this and use something else, but I can't find anything online that doesn't require a rulebook. All I want is a basic combat system.

I've considered just using stats, and just letting players duke it out like they might in any RP fight, but keeping the stats in mind. But I'm afraid people will argue over things, or refuse to let their characters lose. I want a way to determine the winner fairly. I've also considered just flipping a coin and choosing the winner outright, then letting the players write the narrative part. I guess it would amount to the same.

Go right ahead. Here's the civs in the world at present: Anax, the ruling empire at present. Hispania: To the North-West of Anax. It's a culture that's very concerned with beauty and aesthetic. The leaders of the country surrendered willingly to Anaxan rule, but when Anaxan soldiers started hauling away their art to take back to Anaxus Prime, sects of Hispania's limited military sprung to defend the creations that they considered to be rightfully Hispanian. Because of Hispania's official status as a vassal state to Anax, these actions were taken as crime rather than war, and captured soldiers were punished in various ways. Many ended up in the Coliseum. Helmfirth: A city-state in ore-rich mountains north of Anax. When Anaxan forces came to set up mining camps, Helmfirth sprung to defend their territory. They lost the ensuing battle and are currently under direct military occupation. Fleeing civilians were captured forcibly by slavers who were following the Anaxan campaigns. Many Helmfirth slaves have come through Anaxus Prime, but that was eleven years ago and now many have died or been freed. Unknown: A race of dark skinned wanderers pass through Anax territory fairly often, but their homeland is kept secret from the empire. It is somewhere far to the south, and attempts to find it by Anaxan explorers have come to nothing, as many die in the desert that apparently surrounds their civilization. Though dangerous, the Prime Coliseum is the most likely route for a slave to earn their own freedom, and being sold to Cymede can be seen as either a curse or a blessing.

Name: Garvus Strognir Age: 24 Appearance: ![](/img/http://www.mobafire.com/images/champion/portrait/braum.jpg) Bio: A fabled strongman of the far, frozen north of Anaxus Prime. Garvus was a simple goat farmer, however his selfless and kind-hearted nature had earned him fame across his village, but not further. Many of the village would account tales, varying from the time Garvus had rescued the goats of his neighbour as they rushed down the hill. He uprooted a whole tree and used it as a blockade to stop the goats from swimming any further. Another, and one of the village's most accounted tales, is the time he used a large piece of wooden wall to stop fire from singing the backs of escaping villagers. Garvus is truly this strong and has done most of these tales. However, he seeked something bigger and so left the farm in the capable hands of his brother and his brother's wife, leaving for the centre of Anaxus Prime. It wasn't long before the tattooed muscleman was spotted, as he picked up two thieves by the collar of their clothes in the middle of a market, each ascended in the air by one arm each. Fortunately, the people who spotted Garvus had spread word of the new man in town, which quickly found it's way to the coliseum. An offer was given to Garvus, and he saw this opportunity to gain more fame. Garvus has never killed a man in the arena before and never plans too, against the crowd's will from time to time. He also puts himself in the way of danger when fighting with allies as much as possible. Old habits die hard. Armor: Medium, level 2. Equipment: A short sword and a very large shield, which looks like this- ![](http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140520035131/leagueoflegends/images/a/ab/Braum%27s_Shield.jpg) (ignore all the ice and glowy shit)

The shield's size is a little too fantastic. Should I understand that Garvus is Anaxan by birth?

Name: Angelo Degal Ortega Age:19 Appearance: http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=HN.608056211497616365&w=300&h=300&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0 Bio: From the land Hispania he was a young soldier that got caught and put into slavery now he fights to free himself. Angelo isn't a giant hulk of muscle and as a result Angelo relies more on speed and hitting his enemy with 100 hits instead of 1 big swing of a broadsword and prefers light or medium armor. Angelo was a blacksmith in his home and while it wasn't the most profitable of professions due to how little the country fought Angelo loved working with steel and making armor and weapons, however even if his crafting skill in steel was great it did not save from fighting in a battle that later ended up costing him his freedom. Angelo would have died on the battlefield however the commander of the army saw how many Angelo was able to kill with duel swords in both hands and decided to capture Angelo alive and if Angelo had his way he would have died instead. Hispania is a land of culture where great crafter's are born and great statues adorn the streets, Hispania is traditionally a peaceful place where the people focus on art then military power and children play in the streets. Hispania isn't a large country and as a result people generally knew who their neighbor was and could walk in the streets without worry the main export of course was statues and many crafting goods that people would use to adorn their houses with and sometimes orders for the local blacksmith to give a good blade or a strong piece of armor.
