### Helsingborg, 793 A.D In the largest coastal village in Helsingborg, in the community of Råå, thrives the trade of farming, fishing and amongst the finest carpenters and boat makers. Lead by a harsh yet keen Chieftain, he oft keeps the spoils of the raid, dividing meagre shares amongst those who fought for the claim. Life is harsh, but survived. But amongst those who often lift axe and sword, their dreams of travel spread much further than their usual voyage. Stories of lands to the west, of a land called England and of their great wealth and lands. One amongst their crew, a man with a brilliant mind and hands made for craft has built a new ship, one that could tread the great distance to the unknown lands. With orders to return to the east, will our band of raiders be able to convince their Earl of the potential? Or will their voyage be kept a secret and head out to the unknown, without anyone the wiser? Our story begins here. ### Rules, Information and other boring stuff. So this is a story of a group of Vikings making the first journey to England, and of their successful raid of Northumbria. There will be no cast iron story, instead the story will change depending on the actions of our characters. Of course, I shall throw in a few things just to keep us going. But I am also very open to ideas that any of you may have. 1 - Mature players and mature characters. There will be violence, swearing, sacrifices, gore etc. Anything goes really, so long as it is kept within the rules of the guild. 2 - I don't expect a post everyday, we all have lives and priorities. So long as we all communicate through the OOC and keep everyone informed. 3 - The available slots shall be posted below. 4 - I won't ask for a full character sheet, as they can be too binding. However, as our characters will know each other (unless new to raiding) so there will be a simple sheet for you to just sum up your character and give people a rough idea of who they are and what they look like. 5 - I do have maps, of both Scandinavia and Helsingborg and its districts. They will be posted up. 6 - Any questions, do ask. Any suggestions, do say! This is a group roleplay, not just mine. 7 - I personally do not mind someone controlling my character for the purpose of their post. Hard to write one sided conversations and interactions. However, please check with the player as some people do not like others controlling their characters. ### Character round-up [INSERT PICTURE HERE] Name Age Profession Round up personality Fighting skills ### Character's Check the characters section for available roles and who is playing what.

Name: Erik 'Sunderskull' Jordahl Age: 29 Brief Description: Erik's scarred face and beaten features make him appear a fair bit older than he actually is. His hair hangs past his shoulder in a thick, brown heap and his beard is braided down to the top of his chest. He's tall, standing just over 6". His muscular arms betray not only his fondness for cracking skulls, but also his profession as a blacksmith. Pounding iron all day has given Erik a well sculpted body and one could say he's in his physical prime. His face, body and clothes are often stained from his constant work in the smithy. Profession: Raider, Blacksmith Round up personality: Quick tempered, zealous devotee of Odin, proud and reckless. Fighting skills: Fights with a typical viking long sword and wooden buckler shield. Often fights offensively, utilising a shield bash technique. Isn't afraid to get physical with moves such as kicks and headbutts - can somewhat hold his own even when disarmed. Hey I'd love to take part in this, viking culture is of particular interest to me. Also, appropriate picture of the character to follow. :)

I am very sorry, but the world and life have managed to get the better of me -- and in the interest of interests, so to speak, I'll have to withdraw from participating in this RP as I've found myself involved in another and do not like to juggle between too many at once. Best of luck! This looks like it should be a good one.

![enter image description here](http://www.runestoneone.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Reindeer-Huldu-Medium37.jpg "enter image title here") Name Einarr Torekson Age 40 Profession: Godi of Helsingborg, he oversees the Temple and various shrines to the Aesir along with the various ceremonies attached to them, provides spiritual guidance, and advises the Earl through auguries. Round up personality: Tempered, wizened, patient, and calm. He is not easily riled up over many things. Fighting skills: Although not a member of the Earl's war band or a landsman, Einarr does possess skill with a bow and spear through hunting, and always keeps a dirk on hand for various ritualistic and practical purposes. He is not much of a fighter though, and usually stays back from the main fighting. //In retrospect, looking at the character list, I may be out of place with this character, just let me know if it doesn't work, and how I could fix it.

I might be a little while longer getting a sheet up for this, unfortunately - hopefully that's alright! I'm flying back to Australia from Ireland in two days, so I'm spending time with my family who live here and such before I go. :) I watched an _awesome_ video about historical archery, though - and it's made me want to play a raider who hunts in his spare time, and could possibly fight by shooting a bow when not in the shield wall - or, perhaps from behind its protection. It was a video which sort of.. shattered my preconceptions about historical archers, and showed that they were actually a _lot_ more mobile than I thought they would of been - making them quite a bit deadlier on the battlefield (although I'm not sure if Vikings would have used/had access to the same techniques). Anywho, I'll get to work on a sheet as soon as I can, and I'll link the video for you guys to watch if you're interested! :) [Click here for the video!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEG-ly9tQGk)

I will be at work tomorrow and Tuesday night, so won't be getting anything up till Wednesday. Until characters are completed and we are ready to go, shall we discuss any plot ideas anyone has? Shall we have the voyage a secret or have them sent by the Earl?

By the Earl, I guess. I don't see why it should be kept a secret.

Yeah I'm not sure why an Earl wouldn't allow a group of independent-ish Viking raider type group to go raid where they want. Worse case they die and oh well , best case they come back with booty! But yeah I'll second the Earl in agreement - I suppose we should try and mix things up from that HBO awesome show some. How about (providing the Earl still isn't taken when we start) that he agrees and sanctions the mission to try and find England, but when we return he has been disposed by someone who hates most of us, or maybe something similar (maybe he has personal reasons, maybe religious - I don't know :p we can brainstorm.) So when we get back from our awesome raid we have to deal with solidifying ourselves and not being slaughtered by fellow Nordic folk - and that can be the next challenge kinda thing. Maybe out friends and family are in grave danger or… something. Then once that is all done with and we win (hopefully) we can have a religious Blot at the temple in Uppsala. Get all sacrificial and sexy and stuff and see if the gods support further raids and stuffs - or maybe an invasion kinda thing? Anyway, just some random thoughts :) I look forwards to Wednesday :D

Sorry, my son was really poorly yesterday so couldn't get anything done. So the Earl has sanctioned the raid, which our characters will be sent off on. Invariable's character has built the new ship for the voyage. So where would you all like to start off? When it is announced the the raids will be to the west instead, or on the day they are to set sail?

I'd vote for the former, as I've always liked to take a story from the very beggining and have some time to set the scenery. We don't need to rush straight to the docks, a bit of preparation and light foreshadowing would do the game well.

I think we should start on the first day of the raiding season? Have our characters leave whatever it is they do for the rest of the year and head the the Earl's residence for the meeting type thing where we are told about it being West instead. That way we can set up how our characters feel about it all, voice any objections/agreements and set the general tone of our interactions together? Once that's completed we can have maybe a post or two about preparation and then skip to the day of setting off and go from there? That way we've established what were coming back to once it's all done and go from there? Oh - also I hope your son is feeling better - being unwell is most lame.
