I just happen to read some posts and quickly got interested. I have no background in RPs and forums so... can anyone explain to me how things were done in here? I tried reading some information from sites before I decided to join up but these following questions were still unknown to me: (i got tired looking for some guidelines for starters in the site) 1. So, someone makes a plot then others would join up and create their characters. What happens next? 2. Is it necessary to make a post everyday to the topic you joined? 3. How does the RP ends? 4. If I were to make the plot, e.g. I created a setting that was awesome to be put into an actual game(I'm not saying I'm so good, just asking if ever that happens) then somehow my idea/concept was copied/used by someone, will I get any credits? Thanks.

1) The characters interact with each other, conversations, events, things like that. It's like writing a story with a lot of authors. 2) It depends. Some GMs prefer that people post at least once a day, some more, some less. 3) Generally they end when they lose activity, when people lose interest. However some come to a close when the storyarch has ended, depending on the rp. 4) This I don't know. I guess it depends on the situation.

Well. we can help a bit there... 1. People post with their characters, perhaps occasionally being guided towards some goal by the GM. 2. Some RPs move quickly, others not so quickly. Free-level RPs tend to be the former, while advanced is generally the other way around. Casual RPs tend to fill the big, gaping hole between the two others. So the answer in general is that it is not necessary to post every day. You may risk being left behind by the others in some of the faster RPs, but most tend to take into account that people have lives outside the guild and come from different timezones. 3. That cannot be answered with a single answer. Some RPs end because players leave, others because the story is over. Others end for other reasons. 4. Plagiarism is not appreciated here. If an idea of yours is stolen, contact one of the moderators. They can deal with it. oh, and we'come to the guild.

Welcome to the wonderful world of RP! If you love writing and reading, you'll love this. So, a lot of the things you're asking are arranged by GMs (the creators/moderators of a thread) in their plot. If you were to set up a plot, you'd also have to provide a character sheet and any other information you think is important. Remember, the more information you provide about your world and your plot, the more likely you'll get applicants that are likely to stay! From there, once you decide on a number of players (you can limit it to a certain number, just invite people you know in a private thread, or have a thread publicly open forever!) you can start your IC thread with an opening post. The players take it from there. Remember, the more OOC planning you do, the better the story will be. Communication is key to keeping things canon and making sense, not to mention setting up plot points and things you want to happen. Talk to people! Not only will you make the story better, but you can make some friends too! As for posting every day, it depends on the thread you're in. Often people will prefer you to post at least once a day, or notify them if you'll be unable, but it's really up to the GM on the level of activity they'd like. I've seen posting orders in threads before in an effort to maintain activity, but I would really warn against them. Yes, it's generally good manners to wait a few posts before posting again, but I have seen SO many threads die to a strict posting order that I cannot recommend it. Again, communication. Talk to the people in your thread. When in doubt, just ask! We don't bite, not very hard at least. Now question 3 is a harder one. Too often, an RP will die off out of lack of interest or other circumstances before it reaches an ending. However, being someone who has successfully brought RPs to an organic close, I can say that it is ALL about communication! Again, you have to communicate with everyone in the RP to organize stories. This means that you can collectively decide on how to end the story when it comes time. it's really the decision of the players, and I hope that you find an RP that you like enough and that lasts long enough to come to a natural end ^_^ Now for your copying question. I've never had this happen to me, but I have seen reboots of old threads or tributes to other threads as well. This is generally done with permission from the creator of the plot, but if you ever come across a thread that seems too similar to your idea to be coincidence, message the person. If they're disagreeable, you should probably contact an Admin. However, I'm not really sure of this process since this has never happened to me. So yeah, if you have any more questions I'll gladly answer them, and remember COMMUNICATION IS KEY. I cannot stress this enough. I have seen too many threads die because of a lack of communication. You have your setting, you have your characters, the ball can roll. If it's your RP you devise and app for them to fill out to compile their character information on or if it's someone else's you fill out their application with your character information and get accepted, maybe.

No. Though it may depend on the GM. Personally I don't stress forcing people to post so in some RPs we can go days or a good week between posts. But in my later mentioned RP most of our posts are chapter-length so I can't rush them.

3. How does the RP ends?

It ends when it ends. I haven't ever gone that far, and my longest running RP (four years total, a month until one year here) has been written with no real common idea on what the final outcome will be. Most of us have an idea on where we want our major plot threads to go, but it's been written as a continuing story.

Unlikely, but I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch over it. This is forum RP so it's not exactly the most high-class style writing. A way to tackle this is to think of it as "just practice" if you have any aspirations of going anywhere. "Theft" would be a common thing to see, but we're all doing that anyways: we're all borrowing the same tropes or even the entire concepts of established works - if not blatantly stealing the work itself for fan RP - and reapplying them for our own use.
