Greetings fellow humanoids, right now as I type this I'm trying to think of a clever way to engage the reader into investing further in this interest check with this introduction. So far only large amounts of methane are escaping my brain unfortunately, oh well.
They call me CyborgMerlin, and by “they” I mean this one guy sitting at a computer referring to himself in the third person. Luckily you now also know the name, and are of course obligated to call me that as you have no other reference, so there is that. Doesn't it just make you feel all tingly? If it does then take a step back you weirdo.
I ask that you do not post on the thread for convenience sake, I will only respond to PMs.

Now lets get to the meat and potatoes, with dinner rolls on the side, accompanied by a light salad and Kool-Aid to wash it down.
Now I'm hungry. Imma make me a sammich.
On Roleplaying Style and Preferences
Perhaps it's boasting, but I'd like to think I have quite a large imagination. Frankly it's difficult to scale it down without making even basic concepts more complex or abstract, and this is reflected in my roleplaying. You won't find me in “mundane” settings that don't have something that augments how that universe is interacted with. Sifi and fantasy are usually my go-to's as they are the easiest to build upon. Entire worlds float in my head, cultures, histories and fantastic phenomena. I want places I can explore and discover. Of course though, the more interesting the world is the more interesting the characters seem to be.
I love creating casts of characters from different walks of life in these worlds, so playing multiple characters is no problem for me. As for gender preferences, I'd be lying if I said I didn't play males more, but by no means does this exclude me playing female characters, only they are almost never my “main character.”
I have a blast creating worlds and the characters that inhabit them, sometimes planning it all out is even more fun than the rp itself. I would love a partner who is just as dedicated to the process as I am, hell I willing to go weeks just planning out a game, so there shouldn't be any pressure to “get things going,” generally I can be quite patient. That said it's not quite as fun doing most of the planning myself, I may like coming up with ideas, but participation wouldn't hurt would it?
I consider myself “advanced” in that I am competent in both comprehending and writing out complex explicit details. I have no “word count” that I want from you, only that your posts reflect the general flow of the rp at the time.
Oh, and if your idea for a plot is “Character A x Character B” with a three sentence summery...eehhh...no.
On Age
Not to make demands, but as an adult on the internet I'm not comfortable with the idea of conversing with minors, so I ask that my partners be adults themselves. Not for “mature content” reasons but for maturity itself.
Regarding Romance
Alright I know this is a kicker for a lot of people, I've been around, I know for some roleplayers this is a deal maker or breaker so I'll be unabashed about it. It should not be the main focus of the roleplay, nor should characters be made for this specific purpose.
Let me explain.
In life, is it common to have romantic relations to be the central pillar of a person's decisions, or is it one of many important factors? Characters should reflect that reality. We ourselves shouldn’t know for certain if they have success in these endeavors or even if they want them, what comes of it should be of their own volition and not what we want to see.
I'm not saying romance should never happen, only that it needs to be organic in nature, a product of the right circumstances, chance, and in-character decisions.
In other words, if it suits them than it's fine, as a sub-plot.
On a smaller note if your wondering about the sexuality of my characters, they are always heterosexual. My male characters tend not to be assertive, though that isn't to imply they are all meek “submissive” types either. My female characters in terms of personality are more gregarious, but for both genders their sexuality tends to be downplayed, almost to the point of appearing asexual.
“Mature” Themes
...I am going be blunt again and simply come out with it: I will never write sex scenes. Characters can talk about sex, and it can be alluded to happening, but I am not comfortable nor confident enough to write out “encounters”. So don't ask.
Other mature themes I'm generally fine with, violence, swearing, doesn't mean much to be. That said I'm not one to use cartoonish gore or pretend a character has touretts syndrome. Such things need to make sense and tastefully suit the situation.
Fandoms
As a man whose lived his life in a well developed country with virtually unlimited access to media of all sorts, naturally I've taken interest in many works people have produced, some of which may make for good rps
I will not however make a list of them.
If you have an interest in doing a fandom based RP you have to ask about it. Now of course I'm not a fan of everything, so there is every chance I may not have heard of what you refer to. If I turn you down on one than likely it has less to do with lack of interest and more to do wanting to do the source material justice. I don't like the idea of rping something I haven't finished watching, reading or playing, having that experience is important to understanding the work in question.
I can however give a general idea of what fandoms I might be behind.
-TV
I don't watch a lot of television these days, although in the advent of Netflix that's a technicality, generally speaking I of course gravitate towards “genre” based shows. Other than that, as a 90's kid I've seen and still watch many animated shows. Don't know how many would make for good roleplays.
-Anime
I watch less anime than I do television, and most that I have watched are usually dubs of the popular ones that stop I watching just a couple of seasons in. Feel free to call me a “flithy casual”.
-Movies
Bit of a lottery on this one, I've seen plenty of movies, though off the top of my head I can't name many that make for good roleplays aside from the obvious genre blockbusters we've all seen.
-Books
As much as I love to read, I do not have a large collection of books, something I kick myself for. So if there is a particular book that you adore I probably haven't read it sadly, though recommendations are appreciated. And before you ask, no, I have not read Harry Potter or seen it's films, I know that sounds like sacrilege but I'd rather be straight with that right now instead of disappointing you later.
-Comics
Though technically this doesn’t necessarily mean super heroes, more often than not it's what people think of. Like the “filthy casual” I am, most of my knowledge of super hero universe lore comes today’s shows and movies rather than the continuity of the comics themselves. Now I don't have a problem with comic universes, in fact I love them, writing them on the other hand is...difficult. Generally speaking I don't like playing cannon characters, meaning if we used an established universe I would want to create and original super-hero.
“Original” super-hero.
Half a century ago that wouldn't be so hard.
-Games
By far the easiest of fandoms to make rps for, especially if they are already RPGs (still need to play Final Fantasy though). Often games give very good ideas about the worlds they develop, how they work and what it's populated by. I'll go ahead and recommend this as your best choice for finding a common fandom with me.
Note: As stated before I generally don't like playing cannon characters in fandoms as I'm often more interested in creating new stories on characters we get to know.
If we do decide to do a fandom, I think it would be a cool idea to try and put an unconventional twist on it, make it it's own animal if you will.
What I will NOT do
-Anything to do with high school
Why would I ever go back?
-”Forbidden Love” scenario
You understand that Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, and not a romance right?
-Slice of Life
I kind of want to use my imagination thank you.
-Modern supernatural characters living in a slice of of life scenario
Fuck you.
-Fetish based rps
Ewww...
-Virtually anything in the Young Adult fiction category
Hahahahahaha!
Personal Info
I shall not, for any reason ask you for personal information. Not where you live, not your real name, none of it. If you feel comfortable enough to share that with me I suppose I can't stop you, but I'm not inclined to do the same. I'm not up for swapping e-mail or skype either, all of the communication needs are facilitated by this site so we'll keep it here.
Well, that about covers everything I think, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
