OFFICIAL OOC This will be my first post in the RPGuild, and I'm really just trying to get back into the swing of RPs. I've come up with a loose story line, where I will be playing a mage (summoner, specifically) whose summons are based on the energies of the friends, foes, and other general life forces around him i.e. your characters will play a major role in my own character's creation. The plot line will be loose and free form, with really only the beginning and end in mind. Essentially, a pilgrimage across the world, and you will all be my protectors (similar to FFX, but only in plot line). I am open to all character types, but nothing too over the top or intricate. Try to stick to the basic classes of traditional fantasy (knights, thieves, archers, mages, priests, etc). Also, the races and creatures of the world are free form as well, so you can be anything you like, but as I said before, nothing too intricate or over the top. If I can't find it in Elder Scrolls or Warcraft, you'll probably be asked to rethink your character. I'd like at least 2 other players, and no more than 4. Before I post world names, character sheets, etc, I'd like to see if anyone is interested. Any and all questions are welcome :) Let me know what you all think.

I'm a big fan of monster races, like gnolls, centaurs, lizardfolk, that kind of stuff. Would that be open? Also, any reason you'd be looking at something as strict as classes, rather than just allowing a more open sort of character design?

@Primal Conundrum centaurs, maybe. Lizard folk are fine, and while I'm not sure if our definitions of gnolls are the same, any humanoid bipedal character will pretty much get approved. As far as the class system goes, what did you have in mind? I'm very open to new things, but like I said in the intro, nothing too complicated. I would like this to be very much traditional.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of tabletop roleplaying games, where you can frequently mix and match classes to get the character you were going for, or even (in systems like GURPS) not have a class at all, which is kinda more like real life. At that point, you're not a mage, you're just an individual who has spent a lot of time studying magic and is good at it. Perhaps you studied other things too, but part of the idea is that people are different enough that a static class system doesn't represent a person's skill set particularly well.

@Primal Conundrum Well I feel like that's essentially the same thing. A class system is simply to give readers a general concept of your character's combat style. What you do within that class is up to you. If you'd like to be a spell caster whose father was a blacksmith, it's not like I would expect you to put "Smithy Mage" as your class. Those subtext of your character's abilities can be further explained within the character sheet itself. Was that what you were saying, or did I miss the mark? Lol

I might play a big centaur woman who just fights like Goro or Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat—disgusting amounts of brute force, basically, enough to grab people and swing them around like clubs or just actually rip them in half xD

@Primal Conundrum That's fine by me! :) I would simply attribute your character to the "Warrior", "Brute", or even "Berserker" class. Like I said, I'm flexible :) Let's just make sure we aren't godmodding our characters. @Xhala And what sort of character did you have in mind? :) Also, your characters will have Essences,Aspects, and Elements. They will ultimately be irrelevant to your character IC, but I will be using them to decide my character inspired summons. More about those later.

That sounds interesting. I was thinking of a witch or bard type of character, although the with is very appealing. I like characters that seem weak and defenseless but know how to protect themselves. It's nice to underestimated. ;)

I figure powerful strengths are fine as long as they come with weaknesses to match. I'm thinking my character is gonna be pretty bullheaded, not the sharpest tool in the shed, by virtue of her large and powerful frame she'd also have a hard time fitting inside normal sized buildings or walking on weaker floors without making them collapse under her. Particular weakness against mind-affecting magic, and despite her strength, due to her physiology she'd be almost completely able to climb anything more than a steep slope.

@Xhala Sounds good to me :) now when you say "Witch", do you simply mean a female spell caster, or something a little more dark?

Oh, also, if anyone makes a smaller type of character (halfling, gnome, etc) I could totally throw them at enemies xD We should have like a feral halfling with punching daggers made out of wood and boar tusks or something, that way I can throw them onto people and they could just tear them to ribbons :P

@Primal Conundrum I agree that strengths need to be balanced by weaknesses, but that goes for all characters. My only concern is that if your character can just rip the head off of any enemy we encounter who isn't made of stone or at least 2 stories tall, that doesn't leave the rest of us very much to do. I'm glad you want to play a tank character, as they are incredibly important. Especially for a plot line revolving around protecting another player's character. Godmodding, regardless or your character's weaknesses, will not be tolerated. Chances are we will be fighting regular, fleshy enemies FAR more than trying to climb mountains, go into small spaces, and battle mind bending wizards. I'm not trying to be rude, just want to keep everyone's characters within the guidelines.

Well think of it like a mortal kombat fatality: you can't just go over and rip a limb off, you've gotta beat the crap out of them first, leave cracks in the bone and bruise the muscle to the point where they can't really avoid being pulled apart. Gotta tenderize the meat!

Now I see why adults are so concerned with kids playing violent video games. Anyways, this sounds fun, as long as you can handle a smart-mouthed street rat that specializes in short swords and throwing knives.

No, not just a female caster. She would have a few spells, naturally, but her skillset is rather on the knowledge side of things. Brewing concoctions for healing wounds or making you stronger or less tired, that kind of stuff as well as a good deal of knowladge concerning the spiritual world. Witches are bound to Deities or higher powers and their familiar. So she could fill the "supporter/healer" role.

@Drake Sounds good to me :) you'll have to come up with a good reason why this street urchin is employed by the government to guide our summoner through his pilgrimage, though. @Xhala Excellent! The gods and spirit world of the game will be a little unique (my brain has been buzzing while I was in the shower), so don't get too many ideas before I post the intro ;) Well I think we have enough interest that I can take this to the real thread :) I'll probably get up a half assed opening post, just so you guys can start getting a CS written up, but the entire post should be finished by tonight. Link to be posted asap ;)

One thing I should mention: I won't be able to post every day. I'm not quite sure on your expectations to the post-frequency . . .
