I'm in the process of creating a ton of characters that I have yet to have a chance to try out, so...anyone willing to help me out in this endeavor and have fun doing it? The basic way it will go down is this: 1. In this battle you (or a team of you) will be the bad guy due to me having way more good guys that I need to try out than bad guys (and if my bad guys join in it's way easier to explain why two bad guys would be fighting than good guys). 2. Any number of you guys can team up to fight me with any number of characters of your own. They don't have to all be in the battle at the start, just like how mine will be coming to fight you in waves. The term "character" can also be used loosely. Feel free to have cannon fodder #3 if you desire. 3. How powerful or numerous your characters are will determine how many and powerful my own characters will be so that we can have an exciting battle that seems like it could go either way (but of course I have 100 characters to get through so will be expecting to loose a lot). Let's stick with "dangerous enough to destroy a town" at max power characters at the beginning so you can't just blow up the world and ruin most of my characters from having a chance. Later on in the fight we can upgrade if we all feel like it would be fun. 4. This battle is just for fun (well, and to flesh out character traits but let's ignore that for now), so no highly technical stuff is needed or detailing the characters to each other beforehand (I'm sure you'd hate to have to read 100 character sheets before you can fight). This means that we can even come up with new powers for the characters on the fly, although please have it make sense for the character and not break the game, thus making it no longer fun. I will not make up new powers simply to get out of a situation, only if I think it would be a good idea that they would have the power . After all, I'm trying to come up with the best characters in terms of appeal rather than winning. Of course if you need to survive 100 characters than I don't mind as much if you pull some shifty stuff as long as it isn't done in an annoying fashion/make my characters useless. 5. The characters can be fantasy, sci fi, modern, etc, so you have a lot of freedom. They can even be a sentience mass of evil butterflies! (well, I might take that character idea but you get the picture, it can be practically anything). 6. The plot of the battle, to fulfill all the stuff I have in mind, would have to be something like your characters are labeled as highly dangerous to the multiverse and need to be brought to justice. However, all 100 heroes (and villains who want to eliminate the competition) cannot join in at once due to being caught in some evil labyrinth you guys created to split them up and funnel them in one way or another to fight in groups. (This means you guys can control the battlefield as well to try and thwart me). Once eliminating all of the attackers, you guys can escape to freedom! Or maybe there are another 100 attacks who will track you down at a later point...or even...1,000?! Anyone interested?

I'd be all kinds of for this, bro. Sounds bad ass. I could post pretty often too, just, you know, whenever you can.

I work on the weekends, friday, and every other thursday (this thursday being a work day), so would probably only post about as much as you, Vordak, so you wouldn't worry about leaving me waiting on those days. Of course I could post later during those days if needed.

Important, sometimes you have the best roleplay ideas. I'd be more than willing to enter, as long as I'm permitted to use a... Particularly assholish quartet of characters.

As long as they aren't as annoying for me as they would be for my characters.

Someone walk me through this whole arena premise, would you? Me being new here, and me liking exploding giblets and crazy ass action, I'm trying to grasp this RP section. Some of the RPs keep referring to mechanics, without actually listing the details. Do arena RPs have some kind of default mechanic system that everyone knows about? Or are mechanics specific to each RP? What's with this tier system I hear speak of? I'm asking because this looks like fun, but I don't want to splurge my noob juices over everything. Cheers for any answers/pitch fork armed mobs.

Everlasting Arena Reffer to the first post for general rules and the tier listing. Rules may be RP specific, but they usualy don't deviate much from what's widely accepted.

There are usually no real mechanics. The combat is done arbitrarily, with player 1 describing an attack and player 2 getting to decide whether it hits them. Some are more strict about the separation into turns and what you can and can't do in a turn than others, but it's pretty intuitive either way. Tiers are a way to indicate your character's power level. The most recent tier system is the one from LeeRoy's Everlasting Arena (bottom of the first post), but there are several older ones that people may refer to. Knowing your character's tier is important in competitive threads, but not so much for this. Edit: Vordak, you ninja :P

I'd explain it in full detail, but I've got a bit too much on my plate to write it up. The rough summary is: The Gamemaster dictates how the roleplay is decided, whether character tiers are listed or not is up to them. Character tiers are a VERY ROUGH AND VAGUE measurement of the power level of the characters within the roleplay. There are two universally accepted rules: (Some others are unspoken, and some are contested. These are the two that are uncontested.) No Character Control: The act of performing an action through someone else's character without their permission. No God Modding: The act of making your character do something that would be impossible for them. Arena Roleplay is a turn based thing, you take a turn and they take a turn. Your turn is in response to theirs. Your action can be interrupted if logically they can react first. So on and so forth, it's real simple.

Oh okay, well that all seems pretty standard to me. From what I was reading earlier (flicking through the newer and older threads), things sounded like they may have been more complicated than that. Thanks for everyone's responses, you're all a stellar bunch. I'll go ahead and sub to this.

They explained it well enough so I'll not be adding too much unless you guys have a question. This fight will use the normal rules as linked to but won't be as strict, allowing you guys to get away with a bit more extra stuff you wouldn't in a serious competition such as getting unusually lucky and of course the whole business of making up powers on the fly being possible (which I have to stress is highly frowned upon in most arena battles, so also be sure to see if you need to post character sheets first in other arena battles and don't deviate from their listed powers). I'll post the thread for this today unless something horribly unexpected happens.

I'm getting it typed up as we speak. (The OOC, not the IC, but posting the OOC will also bring up the character sheet area). You don't need to post your character sheet for this but you a certainly allowed to as desired. EDIT: Here it is: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/76994-100-vs-big-bad/ooc

You can still join. Not everyone who posted in the interest check is still around but we still have some willing participants so with you included as well we should be able to pull it off.

I have a trio of characters I'd be willing to put up against your 100.

EDIT: No need to message me, OP. Forgot to read above. Finishing off my third character page now.
