The Binder caught you in your final moments before your untimely death. Instead of drifting into the cosmos, he took you to his plane of existence and gave you another chance. Another chance at your own life on Earth, to see your family and friends again, to perhaps do something great with your life. But there was a catch to such a wonderful opportunity being offered to you. In agreeing to wander the human plane of existence again, you must do it under his terms. When your "contract" with the Binder is up, you shall become human.
But until then, you are not fully human.
Your body has received modifications. You wield a power that was never meant for humans, a power capable of twisting and destroying your mind without careful supervision. It is capable of taking the lives of others and it is for that reason that you have them. The Binders enemies roam the Earth and it is your job to vanquish them in exchange for your own life. When you vanquish an enemy, you will feel just a little bit more human. Your powers will strengthen and your sanity will stay intact.
However, those feelings of humanity will not last for long.
Eventually, you will begin to feel the tug of insanity at the frayed edges of your mind and that is when you must kill for the Binder. Those being killed can be anyone - a priest, a rapist, a charitable saint, it does not matter. You might not like but your hands are tied. You agreed to his terms and you must abide to them. In the case of your own death at the hands of a target, you will get no third chances. The Binder cannot save you from death a third time. But do not fret - you're not alone. Others are like you. Ghosts in a human shell, doing the Binders bidding for a second chance at life. They have powers, perhaps powers different to yours, as well as opinions, views and regrets. You can rely on your allies.
But you can never know their names. When you died, your name and previous life was lost to the cosmos. The Binder has given you a new name - perhaps it was something he observed of you in your old life, perhaps it's just random. We may never know. The spectre of war looms over Europe as nations square off over miles of territory. But don't let the politics of man concern you.
It is June, 1914. The Binder has introduced you to the city of Paris. Perhaps it had something to do with your old life - perhaps it didn't. Not all of you are French but you get by during the day, blending into the grey masses. But by night, you sleep lightly, waiting for the call of the Binder. Your four companions do the same. You hide your powers, saving them for a better time. But they still tug at the corners of your mind.
But no matter who you have to kill, no matter the reason, remember what it's for. Your humanity. And if we can't gain back our humanity, then what are we?

In case you didn't understand from the above spiel, this is an RP in which we play a group of indebted dead people killing for a cryptic supernatural being known as "the Binder" in early 20th century Paris. When we have killed enough of its "enemies" that he is happy, he will release us back into our old lives, which we currently have no memory of, but until then, we're stuck doing his bidding. To assist in our killings, we have each been given a power to use but at a deadly price. The use of such a power without supplement from the Binder will destroy our minds and bodies. You don't get a third chance at life, so be careful.
The story shall centre around the hard morale choices, the damage our powers do to our minds, the guilt of killing seemingly random people and our doubt in the Binder that we will all have at many points during the course of the RP. As well as all that, we'll be killing both normal human beings and humans working for creatures similar to the Binder, seemingly for no reason at the command of the Binder. We have all been in the service of the Binder for several years now, within Paris and there is no end in sight. But you keep hold of the vague idea that you'll regain your life, your name and your memories if you please the Binder.
The mechanics will work in a way that is no doubt familiar to other RPs. Our group of 4-5 characters shall be given a target which we shall RP the killing of over the following IC days and nights, using whatever means necessary. Who actually kills the target doesn't matter, as it effects all of our characters equally. The kills will be stealth-oriented, as will the powers. Think Corvo from Dishnoured as opposed to Conan the Barbarian when creating your character and powers. In case this RP receives more attention than I anticipated, I'll open up places for other characters into the plot - the Parisian police force investigating the strange string of deaths, assassins of other beings and maybe even a target who becomes harder to kill than usual.
I'm looking for people dedicated and willing to tell a good story. By that I mean, willing to accept the fact that your character may die if things start going wrong. As for posting ability, those of you who consider yourselves "High-Casual" or "Advanced" are welcome. I realise some of you Advanced folks are more "post a novel of a post once a week" and I have no problem with that. As long as people do post and post well, I won't mind the length, pacing or content. Just don't be silly in your posts and we'll get on fine.
