Liam walked into the room. The steady beeping of a heart monitor filled the silence. He never knew how to start. He sat down by the bed where his father watched him. Hardly conscious, unable to speak, his father looked at him, showing that, though he was near his end, he still understood.

"Dad?" Liam said, smiling sadly. "I'm back again." He told him, still not sure how to continue. He wanted to tell him that he was hiding his ability, that no one knew, that everything was okay, that he didn't need to worry, but it wouldn't leave his lips.

There was a young woman with her mother by her side helping her tread slowly on a walker to her patient room.

"Mom, it's fine, really," she beamed at her as she grunted, feeling as though each step was dipping her bare feet into ice cold water. "I have to do this on my own, anyways, and your shift starts in an hour. Go ahead, I'll be fine. Promise."

"Brie but--"

"Mom, I'm fine, don't you worry. You know I'm in good hands," she softly said, her mother kissing her on her forehead as she nodded, leaving to fetch her purse.

As Brie walked along, staring down at her footsteps, she heard the same familiar voice that came from the room next to hers. First, a much older man and another who had a distinctly younger voice. He's here again. She squinted as she glanced up as if that would help in focusing in on their conversation until her mother came out, ready to leave.

"I left a note to the nurse in case anything happens. I love you and you take care, honey."

Brie nodded in response and both exchanged an arm hug.

She pushed her walker further down closer to her room, leaning against the wall, gasping for a bit of air. She should've never joined the girl's soccer team at her college; it wasn't worth the stay at the hospital nor the pain. She wanted to leave as soon as possible because the longer she stayed, she knew that would be a lot of money deduced from what she had saved up.

Her stress was put on hold until the words "to not worry" repeatedly came from the older man next door to his visitor.

That makes two of us...

His father spoke to him, though it was quiet, and every day he made slightly less sense. But Liam knew what he meant. He always would.

"It's going well, dad. No one knows about me, no one thinks I'm different. You don't need to worry about me. I'll be fine..." He told him. He knew his father was holding on for some reason, and he wasn't sure what it was. He had a feeling it was because he was worried about Liam and his ability. He hoped that the reassurance would let him go peacefully, he tried it every day, but it never worked. He hated seeing his father suffering, and wanted to know how to help.

Different?

What did he mean by that?

Sure, she knew Liam in high school for his reputation of being extremely reclusive but they way he said it his father sounded bizarre.

"Miss Larkin, what are you doing outside of your room with your walker?" her nurse scolded. "If you go around standing like that for too long, you're going to fall, now let's get you lying down."

Brie's face went beet red and repeatedly apologized to nurse Anne.

"Sorry, I just kinda needed a breather."

The nurse was lecturing her now but Brie was staring up at the ceiling, ignoring.

"Anne," she interrupted, "What's wrong with the man next door to my right?"

The nurse scoffed as she tucked her in, leaving the TV remote by her side. "He's in critical conditions but I can't say more because frankly, that's none of your business. Dinner will be coming in less than an hour so just relax. I placed your walker next to you in case you need to go to the bathroom. If you need help, just click on the help button that's on the bed side table."

Brie sighed and turned on the TV, dropping the remote on her bed, looking over at the open door, leaning over a bit to see if Liam came out.

Finishing the discussion, after his father started rambling about nonsensical things again, Liam walked out of the room. Feeling like he was being watched, he turned, noticing a girl around his age looking at him. He felt like he recognised her, but couldn't think where from. He raised an eyebrow and thought about speaking to her, but decided against it. He couldn't approach a random girl in a hospital. That would be far too creepy.

He turned around and walked towards the exit.

She was dumb-founded and froze the moment when Liam caught her to which felt like five, very long minutes.

Once again, she was going to have to break nurse Anne's rules. Hauling the walker over to her, she reached to disconnect herself from the machines. She coyly rushed through the help desk noticing that her nurse wasn't there and stopped at the other long end of the hallway where the exit was, breathing heavily, leaning against the wall.

"Yeah, there's no way I'll be in sports again."

Liam turned around, hearing heavy breathing and a voice he vaguely recognised. He saw the girl from earlier, not too far away from him. His eyes grew curious, and then concerned.

"Are you okay?" He asked her, not sure if he should be helping her back to her room or running for the hills. She had obviously followed him, despite her inherent inability. She was either his stalker, or very determined to tell him something. He wasn't sure whether this could be a good thing, but he didn't want to judge too harshly.

"Uhm!"

She accidentally shouted, surprised he even approached her.

"Yeah, no yeah, I'm doing great," she swallowed hard, balancing herself steadily on her feet using the sturdy walker.

His lips were making shapes as to what she wanted to say but nothing came out.

"Uh, you and I went to high school together... I mean, your name's Liam, right? I-I'm Brie. We had three classes together."

There was a long pause.

"We were never really friends but uhm, I noticed the person you're visiting is next door to mine and I just think that's funny."

Stop blabbering, idiot.

Liam looked at her and couldn't help but smiled. "You're... interesting." He couldn't think of a suitable adjective, so he settled for that one. "Is that what you were so determined to tell me? That it's a huge coincidence and really interesting that we should meet like this?" He smirked a little. He wondered if that sounded like he was being a jerk. He hoped it didn't, but then again, it might keep her away from him. He couldn't keep his secret if he made any friends, no matter how much he wanted to get to know this girl. She intrigued him, the way not many people did.

"Well, when you put it like that, uh... yes?" she nervously laughed.

"You know what maybe I should just go back to my room a-and I'll leave you to it then. I-It was nice seeing you around though, I guess." Well, he hasn't changed much. Grew into a bit of a jerk actually. What the heck was I thinking, it was just a small gesture. Whatever.

Brie turned her walker around to head back to her room but she was secretly itching for a reply in return to see if that worked. Her feelings were hurt anyway but then again, it had been years we were talking here since graduation.

Liam sighed. "I'm sorry, that sounded rude. I honestly didn't mean it like that." He stepped towards her. "I just have some issues right now, so I'm a little on edge." He told her, sighing. "Forgive me?" He asked, smiling slightly, a hopeful look colouring his features.
