The country of Chernarus is a post-Soviet state bordering Russia. A state of severe political unrest began in early 2009 as communist rebels known as the Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star struggle to overthrow the country’s democratic government. After several months of fighting between rebel factions and Chernarussian military forces, the country’s government turned to the international community for assistance.

A United States Amphibious Ready Group was deployed to the region with the hope their presence would end further armed conflict. The rebels were undeterred, and in mid-September, Chedaki forces seized the island of Utes, home to a Chernarussian Defense Forces base, and slaughtered the defending soldiers. In response, marines from the amphibious assault ship USS Khe Sanh launched an invasion of Utes, quickly retaking the island from rebel hands.

A few days after the retaking of Utes, the marines deploy to the Chernarussian mainland. Their objective to retake South Zagoria, end the civil war, and eliminate the ChDKZ leader called “Akula.”

The RP follows CDF and USMC personel shortly after marines seized a large majority of the southern coast of South Zagoria. A forward operating base has been established at the town of Balota’s airbase and US and CDF forces prepare for the long counter-insurgency campaign that lies ahead.

1. Don't godmod, meta game, etc.
2. Be respectful of others.
3. If you plan on leaving the RP or taking a break, let me know. Don't just vanish.
4. My word is final. If you feel I made an outright mistake, let me know, sometimes I mess up.
5. You can make multiple characters, for now the limit is two unless you convince me to let you have more.
6. Characters are probably going to die or be severely injured. War tends to do that to people.
7. If you have any suggestions to improve the RP, feel free to let me know.
8. Try to stick to CDF personnel/militia when making characters. I may allow NAPA guerrillas and USMC characters, but not many. Please ask me before posting a character of another faction for approval.

I'm most likely going to be adding to this in the future. If there is something you need to know for whatever reason, just ask.

This is to be completed later. Both characters will get played out- I really wanted a Harrier in, so I put one in, if you're cool.

Name: Grigori "Grieg" Harwony
Rank: Junior Sergeant
Role: Squad Leader
Unit: 1st Platoon, 1st Company, 6th Motorized Regiment, Chernarussian Defense Forces
Callsign: Bayonet One-Two-Actual (Bravo Squad), 1 Coy
Age: 33
Appearance:
Grigori has an almost Russian appearance, with shaved short ginger hair, being around 6"1 and moderately well built. His face is pale, and freckled, though Grigori has and will happily knock the teeth out of anyone smart enough to try and go down the easiest avenue of criticism of him. He has a well developed beard (much to the dismay of some officers), and blue eyes, with a few cuts and bruises down his hands and wrists. He can usually be seen wearing CDF fatigues, with a pair of simple leather combat gloves, and a netted M68 combat helmet, and some green and grey combat facepaint.

Languages:
Chernarussian, Russian, Limited English

Background:
Grigori was born in Novi Grad, Chernarus. He isn't a local to South Zagoria, and was born before the dissolution of the Soviet Union, of which Chernarus fragmented away from the Russian Federation. Grigori's father was a soldier in the former Red Army, but came home to alcoholism, with his parents divorcing when Grigori was only eight. Grigori finished school at 18, and went to work locally in the local Steelworks, seeing little other opportunity for himself, but a group of friends that he had told him to move on from the dead-end work that he had- and seek service elsewhere, in the Chernarussian Defense Forces, against the Chedaki insergency that threatened the country. His mother urged him to go- the steelworks were no place for her son, and even though Griegori didn't initially like the idea, based on his father's service, he still went ahead.

He enlisted when he was 24, a rather late age, but was able to find he was good at what he did. He became a Corporal three years ago, and was given command of a squad-sized element within Bayonet, which was recently deployed to South Zagoria, to fight the Chedaki insergency. Grigori has seen the mess they have made, and whilst not the most skilled or technical of soldiers, he hates their guts enough to direct him and his men well into harm's way without doing anything silly, and get the job done. He tends to be by the book, though on occasion, Grigori may need an explaining twice to get the point home. The recent death of 1-2 Actual has forced him to become the Squad Leader of this section,

Equipment:
-AK-74
---PSO-1 4x Optic attached
---GP-25 40mm UGL
---AKM Bayonet

-CDF Fatigues
-Load Bearing Harness (Equipment and the like)
-Sling Rucksack
-M68 Combat Helmet (Netted)
-Black-tinted Sunglasses
-Green Thermal Bandit

----------------------------------

Name: Shane Hunter
Rank: Flight Lieutenant
Role: Harrier Pilot (USMC)
Unit: VMA-214, "Black Sheep" (Fixed-Wing Attack Squadron), United States Marine Corps
Callsign: Yankee Two-One
Age: 25
Appearance:
Shane is about 6"0, with shaved short brown hair, being fairly skinny, but physically capable enough to get through the Corps' demanding physical training. He has green eyes, and a completely clean shaven face, opting not to grow a beard. He has a small scar on the right hand side of his cheek, and a tattoo of a Falcon on his right shoulder, being something that is usually covered by a shirt or his pilot's suit. On the carrier, Shane can be usually seen wearing a green thermal shirt, and a pair of combat trousers, with his pilot's suit being the Corps regular green.

Languages: English

Background:
Born in Astoria, Oregon, Shane grew up looking out on the sea, and often fooling about in his youth. His father worked as a police officer, whilst his mother was a local teacher, and were both often absent from Shane's youth, as a result of their jobs. Shane was a rascal for much of his young life, pissing both of his parents off indeed. This said, he was smart, and always seemed to be a step ahead of many of the other kids at school, taking a particular interest with Maths and Physics. He planned on joining the Marine Corps when he turned 18, and he did precisely that, joining their Aviation wing, to earn his wings- with his previous experience over the past few years prior in gliders and parasailing giving him a natural desire to fly something a little more potent. It was the only time he really felt he had made his parents proud, and it was something he found he picked up remarkably quick.

Over the course of the next few years, he served in two tours of duty in Afghanistan, with the Black Sheep, flying AV-8B Harrier II aircraft on attack missions, proving to be a valuable asset to the Corps. His service was not exemplary, but was definitely noted. On a seemingly routine deployment on the Khe Sanh, the sound of a deployment to the Green Sea, and the need for the Black Sheep aboard the Khe Sanh to fly attack missions was more than just tempting for Shane- who jumped at the chance to be involved in the fighting. The initial night-time bombing of Utes, against several SPAAG locations that threatened the air assault of Marines of the 27th MEU the next morning was something that Shane was a part of, and proved that he can still cut his teeth when it comes to flying his Harrier.

Equipment:
-MP5-N SMG

I wanted you to PM me your character sheet before posting it in the character section (or at least first post it in the OOC for approval). Second, I wanted you to ask before making anything other than a CDF character. In addition to those problems, your character is a warrant officer in a faction of relatively unorganized guerillas. A NAPA fighter would probably not have an official rank and definitely not a designated unit. I apologize if the OOC was not very clear, but I'm going to have to deny your character. For now, just stick with CDF unless you have a REALLY good reason to play something else.

Just a heads up, I added a Languages section to the CS. With soldiers of different nations fighting side by side, the language barrier can be a big problem. Chernarus is largely based off the Czech republic, with its primary language being Czech. The population of Chernarus is a mix of Chernarussians and ethnic Russians.

@Kingkonrad: If I'm not wrong, squad leaders were Junior Sergeants or Sergeants. Of course, I'm assuming this is following the command structure of most ex-Soviet (Or in this case, Russian) states.

That is correct. Although, if the previous squad leader had been killed/incapacitated, a senior rifleman (likely a corporal) could assume the role.

I was initially having him as a second in command, but I'll put him up to Junior Sergeant in which case- it isn't unheard of for Corporals to be in charge of squads in short notice, but it makes more sense. Cheers for pointing out Skyth :)

No problem, though if you were going for a Corporal in charge due to shortage of manpower, that would work too. It might get confusing in the long run when we have corporals under corporals, though. XD

Name: Kirill Shelyapin
Rank: Corporal
Role: Grenadier
Unit: 1st Platoon, 1st Company, 6th Motorized Regiment
Callsign:
Age: 24

Appearance: Kirill stands at a rather short 1.74 meters tall, but this is offset by his slender, muscular build. He has brown hair cut into your standard military crew-cut. Dull, blue eyes set into an angular face, coupled with his pale skin makes him look a lot more serious and dangerous than he actually is.

Background: A first generation Chernarussian, Kirill was born in Volgograd to a teacher and Red Army officer. His family moved to Chernarus shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union in an effort to escape the rampant corruption that usually followed regime changes. When Chernarus separated from the newly-formed Russian Federation, Kirill and his family chose to stay and renounce their Russian citizenship in exchange for a Chernarussian one. It had seemed like a good idea at the time; Russia appeared to be slowly collapsing while Chernarus still bustled with the energy of a young state.

As a child, Kirill showed a fascination with military equipment, particularly tanks. It had little to do with their destructive capabilities or even their histories, but Kirill adored them simply because of all the thought and mechanical skill that went into building one. After all, when one thinks about it, it is amazing how by simply angling a sheet of metal one can deflect a shell travelling at close to transonic speeds. His parents, while disapproving of his odd fascination - they had wanted him to do something peaceful with his life - nonetheless supported him by trying to shift his interest in tanks to an interest in engineering in general.

In a way, they succeeded. Kirill went on to study engineering when he turned eighteen, and while he had dreams of being part of an indigenous Chernarussian armour industry, he felt more or less content with being a civil engineer as well. Still, that did not stop him from reading up about modern and historical armoured vehicles from around the world in his spare time.

When war came to Chernarus in the form of a communist uprising, Kirill decided to put his knowledge to use and joined the Chernarussian military, much to the displeasure of his family. He had been planning to be part of an armoured formation, but unfortunately, he was found to be unsuitable for the job. Terrible at driving and not a particularly impressive gunner, the CDF saw little potential in him. It seemed as if Kirill's military career should have ended here, but that was evidently not the case.

Where Kirill showed a total lack of skill in operating an armoured vehicle, he showed aptitude in knowing how to destroy one. In hindsight, it made sense - his interest in armoured vehicles not only taught him how they were built, but also gave him some insights as to where their weak spots were. While anyone could be taught how to aim at the lower glacis plates, cupolas or any other well-known spots, Kirill knew where to hit to rupture the armour, to destroy the wheel sprockets or even to knock out the entire drive train. It was said during training that he was like a sniper with the RPG, placing shots where they were needed with relative pinpoint accuracy.

Thus, it was no surprise when Kirill was assigned as the grenadier of Bayonet One. Though he might still be rather sore about not being able to operate an armoured vehicle, he finds solace in knowing that he is still doing his small part in keeping his adopted country safe, even if it is from her own people.
