I've seen this term thrown around a few times on the site and I don't understand its meaning.

I can assume, however, that it's meant to serve a sort of middle between Casual and Advanced? Am I correct in this assumption?

High Casual is essentially advanced, @Ace of Hearts. Such topics are put in the Casual section to attract the casual RPers. It grew forth because advanced was once (long ago) plagued with a considerable number of elitist jerks. The people who use the label tend to either want to attract different players than advanced does, or not quite feel up to running an advanced RP. Many people feel advanced has much stricter requirements than it actually holds.

In essence: Its advanced without the label.

I'm surprised Low Advanced isn't a term used.

Oh it is, but not as much as High Casual is. Essentially they are the same thing, though. Obviously the main difference is that High Casual is used in the Casual section while Low Advanced is used in the Advanced section.

I think that is what you'd call casual wear with a stoner theme

On Casual Friday, you can wear jeans. On High Casual Friday, you can wear a rasta beanie.

I'm a High Casual Roleplayer!!!

But it's probably just someone that's making advanced type posts in a casual section. That's not necessarily a bad thing as there could be people or an RP that they want to be in within that section and that person likes do do lengthy in depth post, but it could in rare scenarios come across as a bit of a snobby title depending on how it is used.

It's just a tactic to attract more people who think they're not good enough for Advanced into your Advanced RP.

I kinda feel like there is a distinction between high casual and advanced.

High casual: advanced-standard posts, but with a level of attention to detail and depth appropriate for casual.

We'll probably see more of them until the Advanced Section gets some much-needed CPR.

High Casual is essentially AN advanced RP with access to Casual player base.

Anyone who can do High Casual can do Advanced.

High Casual: I want to call myself or this RP advanced, but I don't want to because Advanced is a slower forum and I want commercial success.

But if more people utilised that section it'd have a bit more activity. xD

That, @NuttsnBolts, is the paradox.

Hopefully that can change somewhat when the tag system next evolves.

Even back when I most likely was on this forum, there was a mentality among Advanced RPers, which I like to dub the "what are you, casul?" Phenomenon. This phenomenon made Advanced Players seem like, for lack of a better term, pretentious dickbags in the eyes of most, despite those who actually exhibited said phenomenon being few and far between. I haven't encountered it lately, but it's one of the main motivators behind "High Casual" still existing.

D'you know, I spent most of my early time on the Guild in Advanced, and never really saw the 'what are you, casual?' attitude. Perhaps I was it, because I did (and do) draw a distinction between the level of literacy required for each section, and therefore considered some (very few) players 'ineligible' for the Advanced section they were playing in.

I've always assumed it's advanced level posts from people who aren't ready to call themselves advanced

A low self esteem thing

@Jig, virtually all, if not truly all, of those "what are you, casual?" types, or elitist jerks as they essentially were, disappeared with the guildfall and the year of underdeveloped/unstable guild that followed it.

I basically post RP's in casual these days because casual players get their stuff up faster, but there's no diminution of quality that I've observed.

So yeah, high casual is basically a matter of marketing rather than a distinction in content.

I am a high casual player due to the fact that I can't consistently make the posts that are expected of advance and my grammar isn't always what it should be. However I expect more than just a couple of lines per post if possible and some depth to the characters if possible. I won't explain what it is to me as I believe some of the above guys did a good job on nailing it.
