The Sea Hawk was a mighty vessel built with speed and crew in mind. She had a threefold sail shape and was capable of flanking even the most maneuverable of military crafts. She was well loved by the sea with few stresses showing on the mast. It was the deck and sides that showed its trade. Cannon scars and bullet holes could be seen even without squinting. Hack marks from axes and hooks lined the railings. It was a ship that carried its crew into excitement and danger instead of taking them to safety. Of course a ship is only at the mercy of its captain and The Sea Hawk’s captain was Oliver Tressilian.

The sun was rising over the beaches of Normandy when the Captain walked up to the top deck of the ship. The crew gave nothing more than a nod as they were in the full swing of preparing for the days tasks. Oliver’s first mate, Mohammed, shouted an announcement of Oliver’s arrival when he reached the steering wheel. The young ship hand who was behind it stepped to the side and let Oliver take over. “It would seem the good lord has seen fit to give us fair weather Captain.” He said and then left.

“The boy speaks well does he not?” Oliver mused to his first mate. The man was often the more ‘professional’ of the two in the day to day tasks of reading and maintaining a ship; however, it was because of this that Oliver got along so well with Mohammed. As Mohammed led other believers of Islam in their daily prayers Oliver would study the maps and trade routes for their next plunder. As Oliver dealt with villainy and scum to secure sales of their plunder Mohammed would translate and access knowledge hidden from white men.

“Are you sure about this protection theory?” Mohammed asked with his deep tone. He was a naturally large man standing at over 6’ 4” that was toned by several years of slave work there were few who ever considered Mohammed anything other than a force of nature. “The crew is content with our haul from the Spanish merchant we boarded a few days ago. Another attack could earn us too much attention from Spain. Their military is already searches for us to the south.”

“It is for that very reason we should inquire about the treasures this ship holds. Anything important enough to decree safe passage for one ship along with acceptance from all means the Spanish have a true treasure. A treasure that could be used to trade for safe passage back to the New World.” Oliver had labored over the maps they had acquired from the past conquests and found a very unique pattern in the recent merchant ships. All of them were taking routes that avoided the central channel waterway. A natural current that swept down from the north towards France and Spain.

Normally this would be one of the busiest corridors of the ocean, but instead it was abandoned. It wasn’t until they found a merchant too drunk to know what a secret was to share what he had been told. Merchants from all over were sent a letter informing them that a small military convoy was setting sail from Oslo with a destination of Bilbao, Spain. With the passage through the Celtic sea blocked by the Spanish armada Oliver saw an opportunity to return to the New World or at least past the Spanish fleet. He considered the likely treasure to be some sort of payment to show Spain had Norway’s support against France and other rival countries in Europe. Promise of weapons or even new war machines. No matter what it was to seek out merchants and friendly allies to sign a stay of crossing the English Channel meant it was monstrously important. Important meant powerful and that what Oliver needed.

“The ship is prepared Captain. Flags have been changed and weapons are primed.” A deck hand called up. The timing was perfect as Oliver found a small dot in the distance. A ship was approaching and whatever it carried was about to meet its new home. The Sea Hawk flew its Spanish colors as camouflage. The plan was to get up alongside the ship and pretend to be an escort ship through hostel French waters. When the ruse was discovered they would act quickly and take the ship. Best case they take the ship as well. Worst they pull the treasure to their vessel and escape.

The Princess was rather keen of being aboard a ship. Out at sea, fresh air, the swaying of the ship. Of course she couldn't tell you a thing about a ship, other than it had sails, a captain, a wheel and a Lieutenant. As a child her mother used to read her stories of pirates and how they went on adventures plundering treasure and doing as they pleased. She always fantasised about becoming a pirate as a child. That fantasy quickly passed upon her mothers death. Her role of being Princess tripled in importance. Her smile was warm as she reminisced of her past, then faded as thoughts lead to her mothers passing.

Josefina stood up from her rather large chair. She was locked in her cabin. This was frustrating for her more than anything. She wanted to roam the decks, smell the sea air, feel the breeze on her face. No, her father would have none of it. She sighed as she took a wander around her cabin. It was nice, she had all of her possessions with her, so it was also a bit full. Her fancy dresses alone took up a nice chunk of space. There it was, she went over to it and gently touched the white silk. Her wedding dress. It was made specially for her, she wanted to wear her mothers, but her father once again refused.

She sighed and slumped down on her bed. This was going to be a long trip, and an even longer life. She didnt want to marry the Spaniard Prince. Josefina was a sucker for wanting to find her 'true love'. She didnt care for money or how much land they owned. She wanted someone true, who would love her unconditionally, not just because he has to because she is forced to be his wife.

She picked up a book from her bedside table. She laughed a little to herself. It was one of the many pirate stories her mother used to read to her. She hadnt picked up these books since her mother died, the servants who loaded her things onto the ship must have placed them here. Josefina opened the book and began to read the first paragraph, very soon getting hooked into the story. She couldnt stop reading. At least this would pass the time.

The sea welcomed the two ships with a gentle wind that allowed the two to commit to their courses at a leisurely pace. Olive ordered most of his crew below deck as they regrettably held little in the way of resemblance to a Spanish crew that would be charged with protecting whatever was below the deck of their prey. The ships were now withing signalling range and Oliver waved a hand to tell his cabin boy to begin messaging the ship. The plan from here was all appearance.

The cabin boy began to message the ship informing them that they required some minor repairs so as to keep the pace of the approaching vessel. Oliver watched as he saw a telescope aimed at his ships flag and then along the deck. A few moments later a flag signal was sent back. The ship had agreed to assist and began altering its course. Close to a twelve minute way was met with the two ships beginning to come along side each other. Oliver could feel his whole crew starting to tense up. Thankfully he had a remedy for this.

He put on his best captain voice and began shouting in Spanish giving command after command. "Reúna a su equipo de los pantalones . Nuestro ángel como vienen a darnos ayuda . Mantenga lugar y esperar a mi señal se prenda . Tal vez podamos abrazar a esta hermosa dama antes de que ella navega lejos!" The orders were giving with a playful call and to Oliver and his crews relief it was met with calls and laughs from the other ship.

"Usted no necesita preocuparse capitán . Mi barco puede ser rápido a la huelga, pero sabe un amigo." Said a strong Spanish voice. Oliver looked along the deck of the other ship until he saw a hat that resembled a high ranking officer in the Scandinavian Navy. The Spanish was broken; however, still understandable by all of Olivers crew who were forced to learn the language under the guide of the slave whip.

"Como se puede ver mi barco ha llegado a través de los piratas. Ella fue atacado ayer por la noche mientras esperábamos . Estamos felices de verte aquí a salvo . ¿Puedo subir a bordo y compartir una copa como darle las gracias?" Oliver held up two glasses and a bottle of wine. The fellow Captain seemed to smile more than a normal man at the offer. He quickly waved for his fellow Captain to come aboard.

A drawing plank already being brought down by both boats Oliver nimbly leap from his boats wheel and walked along the side of the ship until reaching the plank board. He moved quickly over the high drop into the English Channel and landed safely on the other side. One look around the deck and he could see what prime condition the ship was in. "Un barco hermoso que nunca he visto el capitán."

The other captain welcomed this compliment with a smile as he guided Oliver to the Captains chambers where they planned to sip wine and enjoy conversation and company while the two sides crew worked on Oliver's ship. One by one; however, the crew of the unsuspected ship will be grabbed and captured. Hopefully leading to no bloodshed. That is unless there are slaves aboard. In which case none but those shackled would live.

As Josefina was reading, her mind was else where, so it took her a while to realise that the ship was no longer moving. 'We are still? She frowned curiously. It was impossible for them to have gotten to Spain so quickly. Even if they had docked, someone would have come in prior to inform her to let her know to ready herself. This was indeed strange.

Josefina got to her feet and took a look out of her window. She had the Captains chambers, he insisted she have the best room for her journey as it wasnt often she went on a voyage. She knew the Captain well. Her father often invited him to have lunch with them, Josefina has known him since she was just a girl. She saw another ship. It looked rather... beaten up, but she saw the Spanish flag it held. She also saw the Captains crew board the ship and it looked as though they were making repairs. 'How curious...' She eyed it suspiciously.

She heard voices nearing outside her door, speaking in Spanish. One was the Captains, the other she didn't recognise. They didn't sound unhappy or panicked in any way. Perhaps it was that they were just lending a helping hand. The Captain was always a nice man like that. She smiled as her -the Captains- cabin door was knocked upon. She quickly got herself into a more princessy position as she looked out the window -gracefully this time rather than looking like a child pressing her face against the glass to get a good look like she had done just a few moments ago- once more. "Come in." She said softly, but loud enough to be heard. She was rather happy to think about having company. She was getting a tad bored.

"You must share the story of your recent exploits..." The captain looked back at Oliver. It was a half step before the pirate realized he was waiting to hear his name. "Disculpe capitán . Mi nombre es Jean Espanza" Oliver had used this name in the past when dealing with Spanish merchants so he felt it was a strong enough name to give to a navel officer. He was happy to see he was being led to the captains quarters. It showed the plan was working and that he was trusted.

"También me interesa saber qué es lo que nos enviaron aquí para protegerse . Mis hombres están dispuestos a poner sus vidas en peligro para el futuro de España." Oliver saw the captain smile at this and agree with a hearty nod. What made Oliver confused was that the captain then seemed to switch into English.

"I will take you to see our treasure now. She may find the excitement of your pirate encounter as thrilling as her books." The captain then led Oliver to his chambers. When the window opened a woman of striking upbringing welcomed Oliver and the captain into the room Oliver nearly cursed a massive storm right there. The ship wasn't bringing weapons or gold. It was bringing something far more powerful in connecting the two countries. It was bringing an arranged marriage.

It was not hard for Oliver to piece this together. Royal marriages are as common as wars in Europe. What was surprising was the absolute blonde of the woman's hair. Having spent most of his adult life in Spain, the New World, and the Caribbean it had been several years he had seen a woman with such striking characteristics like her hair and eyes. Taking off his hat he gave a bow to the woman and introduce himself. He figured English was the best as it was what the captain had used.

"Your ladyship my name is Captain Jean Espanza. It will be an honor to assist in escorting you to Spain." He then took a seat after introductions were given and began his fictional story of peril and piracy. My crew and I were planning to meet with you the day before; however, a ship was making its way into the agreed closed waters. Seeing this as suspicious I gave chase. When we drew near we saw that they flew quarantine colors on their mast. I was ordering them to leave when the ruse was finished. Almost immediately we were set upon by cannon fire. It was only through the favor of the winds and my crews abilities that we were able to repel both boarding and cannon fire."

By the end of this story he had opened the bottle of wine and poured the two glasses he had brought. He saw no other glass immediately and instead went to a much simpler solution. Handing the glass to the woman and captain he drew his head back and poured the glass into his mouth straight from the bottle. When he finished his sip he set the bottle down. "Captain I can not thank you enough for your assistance. You have helped my crew and ship in more ways than I can describe. It would be an honor if you would let us complete our mission and assist with the protection of this woman..." Oliver realized he would need to know the name of the woman.

"I am truly sorry. I was only told that the ship was carrying the future of Spain. I had assumed it was supplies for war... May I have the name of Spain's future?" Oliver bent at the knee and waited for the woman to offer both name and hand. While the pirate life had embraced Oliver he had not forgotten the ways of a gentleman during his time as one.

Josefina listened so intently to this man's, to Jean's story of the pirates. As he bowed she blushed slightly, she still wasnt used to people bowing to her, it did embarrass her a little. "Princess Josefina Årud." She answered politely as she offered her hand to the new Captain. "Your tale of pirates has me tingling with excitement!" She said letting out a happy giggle. "Tell me, have you ever met a Pirate and spoke with them?" She asked so curiously. Like a small child wanting to know more about the world. "I have always wanted to meet a Pirate!" She said smiling then laughing a little, "When I was a child my dream was to become a pirate!" She exclaimed laughing a little more as she thought back to her childhood.

Just as Josefina was about to open her mouth once again to speak there was a knock at the door. The captain opened the door, it was a ship hand, apparently one of the crew members had broken something on deck. The Captain sighed and looked around at the Captain Jean and the Princess and bowed. "Apologies, but I have a heavy handed crew and they have broken something...yet again, you will be alright Josefina?" The Captain questioned her, already knowing her answer. He knew that getting Jean away from her now would be a difficult task. He has stories of pirates. Therefore she will not want him to leave any time soon.

Josefina smiled and nodded at him. "Of course! You go and see to whatever it is, we will be here." She said smiling happily at him. Once seeing her smile he was reassured and made his way out of the room, closing the door behind him and making his way to the deck to see exactly who had done what to his ship.

The princess looked back at Jean. "You must tell me everything, every detail, please!" she said begging. "I wish to re live your experience with pirates through your words" She smiled, her eyes clearly longing for him to spill every word, she bit her bottom lip eagerly.
