There is news spreading among the many provinces of the galaxy. Many doubt its veracity, but just as many claim it as fact. There have been cover-ups, clean-outs and very little transparency, but now, the truth will finally reveal itself. The subjects of PROJECT INERTIA are set to be released from their stasis, and brought into the modern world.
Exactly 3030 years ago, roughly 10,000 citizens of the United States, France, Great Britain, South Korea and Germany were completely frozen in time, roughly 2000 in each country. There were no warnings, there was no press. The government deployed very special devices in small towns, devices that were each specifically set to bring a large, impenetrable field of time halting stasis to these towns, stopping time, quite literally, in its tracks. No aging, no decomposing, no movement. Simply time frozen in place.
The initial reactions to this experiment were met with worldwide condemnation, backlash, and near revolution. The governments of the involved countries were met with huge protests and demands to end the experiment prematurely and release the subjects of the project that had been taken without consent. The political and social ramifications were immense, with multiple revolts and uprisings taking place, with the sites of the stasis being attacked time and time again, only for the government to repel each one.
Now, in hindsight, what used to be considered wars that took years to end and quell, are now viewed as simple skirmishes that are insignificant in the eyes of time. After so many generations have come and gone, the mere idea of PROJECT INERTIA seems almost like a fairy tale, some thinking it of some hoax made to rile anarchist feelings in the people of the Interstellar Age, with some thinking it so insignificant in the scope of time that it no longer matters whether it is true or not. But the resounding majority still believe, with quite a few of them maintaining the protest of yester millenia.
Regardless of the conspiracy theorists and skeptics, PROJECT INERTIA has finally come to its moment of fruition, the subjects are ready to be released. Many scientists doubt that the subjects will even be able to live or breathe on Earth, which in time has been more or less completely transformed by advances in technology and human discoveries. Some believe that culture shock and cases of extreme depression will take the lives of those who are frozen, many of them basically being stripped of everything from their former life.
You are a member of Section One, the most promising of all sections. Your section had, technically, the most diverse sample of human life from the 21st century. Luckily enough, this Section, and 2 others, fell under the control of the H.C.O.P, or Human Coalition Of Peace, and will have mostly a free lease on life, should they accept it. Its their choice now, will PROJECT INERTIA be all for nothing, of will it gain merit beyond all human experiments before it?
