At a certain point, I'm going to step in and start setting some direction for this, because I'd rather not have it die. Gonna wait a bit longer in hopes that our illustrious GM makes a post, but at some point today if he doesn't then I'm gonna start setting locations for missions and the like.

Might be easier if you explain your character idea first, and it gets decided on from that.

I think the rules are basically "don't make anything stupidly overpowered". I mean, Jack might be really strong, but only in specific situations. She's not great with tech beyond suit maintenance, and while in a face to face fight she turns into a meat grinder, she's not much use outside of combat or preparation for combat. She's strong, but in a limited field.

So yeah, describe your character idea, it's easier than setting up a hard list of what can and can't be done.

Only objection I could think of is that he looks more qualified than our actual captain to be in charge with the military history to back it up, so it wouldn't really make sense that he was assigned to work under Soloman.

While definitely experienced, Grayeson's military history is on Earth, with the marines. He would need experience on spaceships to even come near the qualification for captain.

Grayeson's aim is advanced, special purpose missions. He and his team are sent in well-ahead of the main force and cause problems with the enemy. It is typical for a infantryman, especially the enlisted, to have a more experienced background than officers in the military. That is why we are considered the "advisors" and "action-takers," while the officers are the "decision-makers." Anyone with military experience will know this and back-up my claims.

Additionally, Grayeson has a diverse background with his training that will be revealed throughout the roleplay. Some of which might be basic mechanics of demolitions and field medi-care.

Just careful you don't end up being better at demolitions and medi-care than the characters who have focused on that. Right now we've all got fairly specialized characters, so from a narrative standpoint it would be best to let those individuals shine when those things are required. I respect that you have military experience, but this is a free-grade RP set in space against aliens—it's not going to be accurate to real life military things.

It would be a simple understanding of their mechanics, nothing advanced. The most he would know about demolitions is how to shape charges, plant on walls/doors and blow them for an entrance. Additionally, all military personnel have a basic understanding of field medical care, such as a quick patch up or assisting the main medical personnel if needed.

The only thing he specializes in is special operations-type warfare; such as unconventional, direct action, special reconnaissance, and supporting main force engagements. In a short-word, he's your spec ops go-to guy when you need shit done without the political backlash of a main force.
